Often the parent dealing with the crying baby is feeling overwhelmed and crappy when they aren’t able to soothe the baby. Screaming at the baby and/or the parent isn’t going to help anything. Either it makes the parent more frantic or angry and can cause the baby to cry and scream louder. It’s not as if the baby went on that plane with the intention to cry. I’m not a parent myself but I can have some empathy for babies and their parents.

No one ever WANTS to travel with a baby. Sometimes you just have to. I was on a flight once with a fussy baby and a stressed mama, and as she tried to calm the baby down another lady walked up and kindly offered to hold the baby for a while. She had a mother's touch and patiently held and played with the baby for most of the flight. My faith in humanity: restored.

I gotta say though, I feel this guy. One day I was on a 5 hour flight going across the country and throughout the whole entire flight, there was this baby that kept on screaming and crying, and by screaming, I mean it. I have never heard that loud of screaming coming from a baby, so I used my noise cancelling earbuds, which worked quite well, but unlucky for my mother who was sitting a few seats away, she had absolutely nothing to put over her ears. For my mother, this was one of the worst flights she was ever on, and because of that incident she ended up getting noise cancelling headphones and she brings them on every single flight.

Ngl, some parents don't know how to parent either though. We had an 8 hour flight with a toddler and baby with parents who didn't believe in punishment. So the toddler was running up and down the aisle screaming, they were stepping and climbing into empty seats on the plane and some guy ended up catching him when he fell, they had puked as well in the aisle and some of it got on one of the other passengers. And the parents just sat there and did nothing. I think other passengers were more engaged with the kid than his own parents were. So it was sad because you feel for the kids but it was annoying to listen to 8 hours of nonstop screaming.

It’s clear that this man has never had children. A baby’s crying is involuntary because they can’t express the pressure and pain they feel in their ears during a flight. Yet, instead of showing understanding, he acted entitled and intolerant. If he thinks he’s so important or special, maybe he should have booked a first-class ticket. Before judging, he should consider the parents’ perspective-they’re likely already stressed and embarrassed, and there’s little they can do to relieve the baby’s discomfort. Babies on planes cry out of fear and pain, not to inconvenience others.

While I don’t agree with that man’s behavior, I understand his frustration. In 1979 I was on a flight from Travis Air Force Base, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii. The flight lasted five hours and 45 minutes. The plane was fully loaded with single military personnel in uniform as well as dependents. One baby on board not only cried - it screamed from the time we were airborne until we touched down in Hawaii. I understood that the baby was probably in extreme discomfort and I silently coped with the situation. We were packed into that plane elbow to elbow and it was a miserable, stressful, claustrophobic experience. I had to keep reminding myself that I was soon going to be enjoying my brand new assignment in Hawaii. I never forgot that experience.

He’s is right. Why dont they just ask the baby nicely to stop crying ? Im sure its that simple.

A crying baby is infinitely less annoying than a full grown man having a tantrum

i get where he’s coming from, but i had a baby screaming for 2 hours straight, i sat in my seat having a mental breakdown and crying very quietly. i would NEVER act like this.

35 mins is nothing to 2 hours. Get the flight attendant to help calm the situation
