Alan Rickman remembered by Ruby Wax
The British actor Alan Rickman has died of cancer at the age of 69. In movies, he won fame for his role as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series and before that as Hans Gruber in Die Hard. He also won praise for his work on stage in productions such as Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Private Lives, and Antony and Cleopatra. The American comedian, actress and writer Ruby Wax pays tribute.

She's right, Alan Rickman was one of a kind. Fantastic.
There was something so special about this man. He was a wise one, and not perfect, there were faults, but oh what heart, intelligence, and insight.

Wondeful tribute by Ruby Wax, Alan Rickman will be greatly missed. Only met him once but he made a lasting impression on me not just in his films but as a human being. Rest in Peace Alan

+Kristína Mandová Maybe, maybe not. They never seemed that close in a romantic way. Maybe they had a deep spiritual bond and lived their separate lives. Alan couldn't have been around much with his constant theatre and movies. Perhaps the marriage at the end was for financial security. Who really knows.
Wow, tell us about that experience....
The character of Severus Snape has taken on a life of its own far beyond movies and books. People passionately proclaim his eternal evil or eternal love. Was he redeemed by his love for Lily? Or was he ALWAYS meant to be good? What is in the books cannot evoke such passions. The basis for these strong opinions is that the character was played by Alan Rickman. The adoration of Snape the character is based on the attractiveness and skill of the actor.

Her last line made me cry. I'm sitting here wiping tears off my face, remembering all of Alan's wonderful work, as well as his kindness and generosity. Ruby was so right - money never tempted him, and that's what made him so special. He didn't sacrifice passion in favour of payment.
As Emma Thompson said, "he was the kindest and best of men, and we shall never see his like again".
Alan inspired me to quit studying law and pursue theatre, creative writing & literature. I start the first semester next week. Couldn't have plucked up the courage without him.

She's right that he stole the show from Kevin Costner and from Tom Selleck. It's so moving when she concludes, "Well, I know I never loved anyone like that."

You were so lucky to have this close relationship with him-whoa!! Living in the same house!!! I'm jealous, but thanks for sharing this because I have been trying to find out more about his personal life which I feel was very secretive. Like how can he NOT have had some affairs with a few ladies over all these years??!! I know I would have given it a shot!!! Love this interview and thanks so much for posting it!
Well you can't have both: adventure AND intimacy...he decided for Rima and I think he has never shifted...though I think he felt great that women were crazy about him.

He did NOT have affairs... that's according to those who knew him best, and worked with him. They said there was never any rumors of affairs in the Hollywood grapevine. He was known to have a strict moral code, almost puritanical at times! Again from those who knew him best. I'm sure Ruby could attest to that too. Alan was a unique and special man. He wasn't like most celebrities. He was faithful in his relationship with Rima, abd I don't even care for her at all. Like Emma Thompson said, we will not see his like again

I imagine she may have meant Sense and sensibilities....also, Snape is NOT a villain! He said something to that effect himself.
