True story... someone told me when I was a film student that they'd met Alan Rickman and gave him a copy of a short film that I'd made. About a month later I got a handwritten letter in the mail from Mr. Rickman telling me that he enjoyed my film. I was blown away that he did that.

You can always tell an actor who evolved off the stage and masterful work versus a movie star who evolved off of photographs and casting couches. Rickman was a legend, lost before he was ever truly recognized as having begun. He touched many lives.
He was born for the craft. Wow, look how young! And his baritone voice really made him stand out. Brilliant actor...with comedy, being devilish, drama, whatever his role, he owned it.
Fantastic video. I was one of the people that grew up with Harry Potter and always knew just from Alan's acting that there was more to Snape. So I defended him almost religiously to my friends that were absolutely convinced Snape was 100% evil, and I was very pleased to see how the character developed, and even more pleased to see Alan bring it to such life on-screen. The day the news broke that he died was one of the saddest days for me. I will always be a huge fan of his. He was truly unique and the world is poorer for his loss.
In a film about Robin Hood it's a given you're meant to be cheering on Robin Hood as the hero; Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves is the only film about same where I ended up wanting to cheer on the Sheriff of Nottingham but not because of that character being a good person/hero but because Alan Rickman was playing him with some wonderful dark humour in his performance which outshone Kevin Kostner (playing the main character) by miles. RIP Alan Rickman

It was always so easy to fall in love with his characters. He was easily recognized in each of them and yet none of them were the same. There are some I could name who always play themselves regardless of the role. It was fun the first time or two but soon becomes impossibly stale.

What a legend
It was always so easy to fall in love with his characters. He was easily recognized in each of them and yet none of them were the same. There are some I could name who always play themselves regardless of the role. It was fun the first time or two but soon becomes impossibly stale.

He travelled so far just to support his co-stars when they were on stage. Patrick Breen had me crying.
I didn't watch any Harry Potter movies but I know Alan was a major character. Seeing his contributions to theater I add he was the wizard/sorcerer of film acting. He had us under his spell
At the Barbican Theatre gift shop in London, many years ago, i heard That Voice behind me, politely saying “ ‘Scuse me please” as he gently patted my shoulder. It was really crowded-“a frightful crush,” and he sauntered to the cashier. My friends were whispering What’s he buying ? I peered over and saw he was buying a handful of postcards-featuring himself! So i always thought he must be conceited ….only later I discovered that he was a genuine gentleman. Friends told me to never wash the jacket where he patted my shoulder.
He was such a cleaver man.. Loved him. So talented.
