      There was one at my local BMW specialist owned by a Japanese guy from new, it sat there for months & months not sure what needed fixing. Every time I took my e90 there I couldn’t help but stand & admire its beauty. The CSL wheels are classic, were they originally designed for Porsche’s by BBS?

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lovely things, yes I believe the originals are produced by BBS - for the not so wealthy people like myself CM wheels replica version are identical looking but sadly lack the light weight of the original. Happy with how mine has come out in the end but still plenty left to do!

    I’d only watched your newer videos previously, I had assume it was all genuine CSL items. I’m toying with ordering a set of genuine CSL wheels at the minute for my carbon black M3 coupe

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To purchase all the genuine CSL items is not a cheap day out sadly & back when the build began I couldn’t justify the eye watering costs so did the best I could for the cost/ quality, i still get “nice CSL mate” a lot so must look half decent 😂
      The genuine wheels are lighter than the replicas but the reports reading online is the replicas are stronger than the genuines so ideal for British roads that are full of pot holes

    • @mikebader3863
      @mikebader3863 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stone Automotive looks spot on mate, I’d read a lot about the poor fitment etc of the replica parts but judging by your car that isn’t always the case!

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s more the time it takes to fit, the replica parts certainly require some more work to get right but you do get what you pay for in life (£4,000 for a genuine CSL bumper was never going to happen)

    Looks good. I’m planning to do the same once I’ve purchased a silver grey M3 in a month or two. Any plans to get a CF roof installed? The Streamline one looks good.

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not any time soon, the roof enters the very permanent modification, I like the option of being able to return the car to standard if they end up being E30 M3 money some day.

    • @giblettium

      Stone Automotive Fair play. I’m toying with going down the CF roof route and making my own take on the CSL. How steep was postage for the boot lid and did you have any customs charges?

    Hi again, sorry mate but... i completely like your setup, what are your tire sizes at the front? I see that you have 265/30 at the rear...
    I have 225/40 19” and 255/35 19”, does this has any influence on the wheel size selection to purchase them the CSL wheels? (sorry for my newbie question

    • @stoneautomotive

      Hi, I run the standard CSL sizes - Rear : 265/30/19 - Front : 235/35/19 on the Michelin Super Sport tyres. The wheels are from CM wheels, not sure what Off set they are as standard but I combined the, with 12mm spacers all round

    The build looks great. Perhaps you can help me. I'm looking into the possibility of fitting the CSl steering rack onto my 02 M3. I've read online that I might encounter issues with the steering position sensor and DCT. Do you have any definitive information on this? Thanks!

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, replied to your comment on the Z4M video regarding the steering rack 👍
      I know from experience the 2003 onwards (LCI model) is fine but had heard of people with pre-LCI cars having issues

    Hey James. So I’m currently in the middle of fitting my SSDD bumper. 2005 car with Kevlar crash bar.
    Did you need to do any trimming to the foam carrier to align nicely?
    My passenger side sits perfect but when putting the drivers side in, it doesn’t go all the way and make the top middle of the bumper bulge up.
    Also pushes my splitters out as well and makes it look terrible.
    Many thanks

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea I had to chop a fair amount off the foam carrier from memory (was a few years back now) it was pulling it away to much.
      Such an old video now I can’t recall if I covered it sadly

    • @deanwilson4554
      @deanwilson4554 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1st things 1st James, thanks a million for the reply.
      I have this video and Daniel from the benchmarks video watched to death. I have read all the M3cutters forums for fitting to.
      But, can you remember if you shaved off from the foam, was it the side that the stud cups sit in to? Or was it the side that bonds to the bumper?
      Thanks again mate.

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@deanwilson4554 no worries, I wish I had covered it in more detail but again was in the early days of TH-cam!
      Again from memory (which isn’t great at the best of times 😅) I had to trim a fair amount off the edges. I also recal that I only run the two central bumper mounts as they kept pulling the bumper out which thankfully hasn’t been an issue over all these years 👍
      It is sadly just trial and error, it was designed for the pre-LCI bumper so was always going to need a little TLc to fit.. does work wonders for the cost though 😎

      Stone Automotive I'm reading your reply and there's something that I don't understand, sorry but I'm very new talking about tire and rim sizes... I have a friend owning another m3 like mine and he says that his CSL cmwheels just needed a spacer at the rear (I guess that maybe the ET would be different of a OEM CSL wheel..? ¿) , but I read your comment and I'm worried about having mistakes doing my order... I want to use the stock 19" tyres sizes and have the same look as you have... Are you using the same Tyre sizes too? 225/40 19" front and 255/35 19" rear mines (or maybe Tyre size doesn't matters?) 'cause you said you're using 12mm spacers on the 4 wheels... I'm Comfused, sorry for this long message

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, you don't have to use the spacers, the wheels just look lost in the arches so I decided to run 12mm front & back. You could do the rears only if you wanted but I would suggest keeping it balanced all round plus it looks great. Maybe worth dropping CM wheels a message? If you want to see more of the car with the spacers check out my instagram - stone_automotive

      Stone Automotive hi there! I sent them a message, very helpful about the wheel sizes and tires... I have Konis+ H&R springs... I'm following you on Instagram and I guess you have stock shocks+Eibach springs? That's maybe because I'm not sure if 12mm spacers would fit well on mine, as I think it's a bit more lower than stock shocks with eibach springs...

      The Pagid RS-29/8 pot K-Sport brakes seem to have coped with some hard road drives I've had this summer in the U.K., it's certainly been on my mind as the Alps trip will bring some serious heat especially if we go to the Ring on the way back.

    • @stoneautomotive

      Wrong, on a genuine CSL it is for the carbon fibre air box secondary (lower feed) intake as I confirmed it on a genuine CSL.. on the standard bumper it's for brake cooling and the secondary intake. If it was for the brakes why would it only have cooling for one side lol
