This is the strongest start to a playthrough of this game I've seen, and I regularly search for any new playthroughs I can find. I'm very excited to continue this journey
It's just his personality type. I found this channel because of his Skyrim playthrough and he shows the same attention to detail and actual care about the game world on that one. Same with his Witcher 3 playthrough. Although I don't always agree with the choices he makes, I love how he gives thoughtful explanations for why he makes a decision, especially when it comes to moral grey areas or historical controversial stances, which this game obviously covered a lot in this episode. I have played this in the past, but only recently got reminded of it when this video got posted. It's such a hidden gem of a game so I started watching some more playthroughs. I would love to find one that shows such attention to detail, that after reading the note on the wall in the current time, they go back and talk to "Karen" about it before going into the well. Small things like that, that would be an awesome playthrough to watch.
@@yoooo7408 I actually realized with this video that I had watched his playthrough of Portal, and I had made a similar comment on that video about it being one of my favorite playthroughs. I even just started rewatching it, because apparently I never fully finished watching his Portal 2 playthrough. But I think I'm definitely gonna check out his Skyrim playthrough now too, I'd be really interested to see how he engages with that game.
Welcome Peter! Also I recommend if you're into stuff like this (as a fellow youtube playthrough addict) definitely try Outer Wilds! Similar experience to this game, and a whole world of youtube playthroughs will open up to you, including Ryan's!
@@DromeG60 Outer Wilds is certainly on my radar, though idk when I'll get to it. I've honestly held myself back from playing a lot of games because I actually want to try making let's plays myself, but I'm not good enough. Since you brought it up, though, if you haven't you should definitely check out the Outer Wilds playthrough from About Oliver. I haven't seen it myself, since I haven't played the game yet, but his blind playthrough of Minecraft is how I first heard about Outer Wilds. I saw a lot of people talking about discovering him through his Outer Wilds playthrough, and everyone spoke extremely highly about the way he played that game.
Ah, I've forgotten how good this game is. DarylTalksGames has recently made a video on how best to forget a game, and the recipe is to gobble it up in one sitting or as close to that as possible, and then never think about it again, never get exposed to it in any shape or form, and in several years it'll get mostly wiped from your mind except for a vague general impression. Looks like that's exactly what happened for me with The Forgotten City, so I'll be watching half-blind. And part 2 is tomorrow, I can't wait, this is going to be good.
I was under the impression that Daryl was being at least a little sarcastic. While playing through a game fast makes it easier to forget, you also don't experience the game at it's best by rushing through
I love these kind of games but I never heard of this! I'm ready and prepared to accompany you on your journey, Ryan. Aside from everything you said about this game being smart and loving it I also love the music.
So hyped to see you playing this. The Forgotten City remains one of my favorite Skyrim mods (which I still recommend, if only to see how this started out) and the game is just bigger and better. You're bang on about the Dwemer ruins, by the way. Very much looking forward to seeing more of this series. The Forgotten City seems right up your alley!
I am SO excited!!!! I prefer watching blind playthroughs rather than playing them myself first and this one looks so incredibly interesting and fun to watch. I’m here for the whole journey!!! Let’s go!!!!
After watching and loving your entire Skyrim and Witcher 3 playthroughs, you are going to love this game. This is right up your alley, and I can't wait to watch this one. Such an amazing concept.
This is absolutely such a perfect game for this channel. Literary insight and attention to detail is already paying back dividends more than other players I’ve seen.
I just read Song of Achilles last month. It was beautiful, incredibly written, easily a five-star read. I ended up finishing it on a plane and cried into my airplane ginger ale.
So happy you are playing this! And especially that you removed the hints! nobody needs pesky game backseating! Already paying attention to details in the first few minutes, this is going to be gooood
Sadly, the game integrates the hints a bit too much, and doesn't account well for them being off, which can make some next steps almost impossible to figure out and kind of cuts out somewhat important story development. It would be a lot better to keep the hints in but just never use the objective tracking.
@@peterlewis2178 yeas, I left hints on and have reached endings 1, 2 and 3 so far. I wouldn't say that the hints ever ruined a puzzle. To me it isn't a puzzle game, but more a game like Outer Wilds, where your knowledge about the world helps you. And to be honest, I'm more interested in figuring out the story than solving puzzles, even though The Talos Principle is one of my favorite games. I like puzzle games, but wouldn't really say that Forgotten City is one.
omg I've been so excited to watch this ever since I saw the thumbnail - I listened to The Forgotten City soundtrack at work today to hype me up lol - can't wait to relive this incredible game with you!
I really love this game and I can tell this is gonna be a great playthrough. You seem to have such attention to details, I wonder if you might even find that one optional quest that I've never seen any letsplayer find (to be fair I didn't find it either when I played, I found out about it from Reddit!) And given how the talk with Sentius went I imagine that there are certain characters who we'll talk to for a full episode! Cannot wait, glad it'll be daily uploads.
@@aimelle3 Yeah, I always hope people do that, I actually did in my playthrough, and it's one of my favorites. I think I did watch one playthrough where someone did it, but I can't remember who it was.
I was reminded recently just how magical it can be to know nothing about a game. I started playing the Mass Effect Triology lately because I've seen a tiny interaction of the characters ingame and it made me think that I could like the whole experience. Now I am in the middle of the last game and I am doing everything I can to drag out the inevitable end. I did not expect the sheer force with which the games captured me and all of its characters feel like family to me. And part of this whole journey was me being able to be surprised by the game and not knowing where it would take me. That is of course a recommmendation but also just a long way of me saying how excited I am for a new blind lets play! Welcome back 💜
I am SO HAPPY you're playing this! A friend recommended this game to me back when I was watching your Outer Wilds playthrough and during the game I kept thinking it would be awesome to witness you playing it :D
I am just getting started on this playthrough. I know nothing about this game, and I'm excited to experience it with you! This was a really great beginning episode.
I can't wait to see the rest of this! This is one of those games that I was very excited to play myself but just didn't have the attention span to finish, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unravels.
I almost commented to answer one of your questions, but I forgot that's not how things work around here lmao. Loving this so far, excited to watch it unfold!
ryan!! I read song of achilles a couple years ago and I absolutely loved it; definitely one of my favorite books. made me ugly cry but in the best way. definitely second your recommendation
I'm so excited to watch you play this! I've only seen one playthrough before and it's always so interesting to see your exploration of a space like this
I read Song of Achilles two years ago during my study abroad trip to.. literal Greece 😭. Took me most of the trip to get into it but by the end I read it for two straight days and finished it on the ferry back to Athens from the island of Naxos. Let’s just say it’s a good thing there wasn’t anyone around me cuz I was an absolute WRECK!! Even knowing how it ends doesn’t help the emotions, it was so beautiful and heart wrenching and ugh so amazing
Hi Ryan! I finally finished the game and now I can watch your series. I really enjoyed playing the game. I actually went back and restarted my playthough early on so I could change me name to "Cassius". 😂 Looking forward to the rest of your playthrough.
Respect to you doing your own thing, but I really do enjoy your content with less swearing in it. Family friendliness is appreciated ❤️ Thanks for all your content!
Oh hey, I remember playing this back when it was a Skyrim mod. I remember not being super into it then (possibly because I felt it didn't connect particularly well to the overall world and lore), but the new version does seem better framed
I'd definitely recommend playing it yourself first. It's a great game, and it's not a game that has a ton of replayability, because most of the gameplay and intrigue hinges around the dialogue and unravelling the mysteries. So if you just watch it, you likely won't want to play it yourself, and you'll miss out on that experience of engaging with it yourself, but if you play it first you can still enjoy watching him discover the game.
100% play it yourself first. If you have any kind of love for story games, time loops, philosophy, or even just roman settings, this is one I think you should play yourself.
I tried to play for myself but sadly the Switch version is bugged and I’m stuck in a certain area. I’ll be very interested to see what I’m missing out on.
Never seen this game but after 20 minutes of watching I have to abandon the series and play it myself, I'll be back when I'm done lol
This is my favorite type of comment
Do it!
This is a great game!
I did the same thing! After finishing it, great game!
