Go and watch Mare of Easttown, where you can see a strong female lead, a kid with down syndrome, a lesbian couple, yet it does not feel forced or fake. One of the best series ever, and Kate Winslet is brilliant!

I thought it was kinda hilarious watching the female trooper arrest the arrogant drunk white dude. She was talking on the phone with one hand and holding the dude with the other while he squirmed and struggled in pain. Also I'm an Alaskan native and I don't remember people in the villages being Africans

Holy shit thank you for saying this….I watched about 20 minutes of the first episode and couldn’t even believe what I was seeing. Season 1 was so unbelievably good I assumed this would be more of the same. Just utterly slapped in the face from the get go with identity politics…I will not be watching any more thanks dude
I also loved the franchise. But I appreciate this review. My time is way to valuable to waste with bullshit like this. I don’t think the creator nick would of made this mess. Too bad
IT was a shocking 1st episode, after 20 mins i zoned out, could not belive someone with jodie foster s talent and her intellect read this script and was on board. not only that, how can woody and mathew look at themselves in the mirror to produce this, the show after the 1st season has been on a steady downward spiral but this new season hits rock bottom. We all know why aswell , its become this thing now in hollywood to apoint where there not even trying to disguise it anymore. Sripts actors directors and who ever create these shows should be picked and judged on there ability talent substance quality, not on what we know now is there gender race and diverstities. I wont watch any more, RIP HBO

You happen to catch HBO recently aired all seasons of the sopranos for its 25th anniversary as well as season 1 of True detective right before season 4 started airing. Was an interesting look back at the shows they used to make but just can't seem to anymore (for now obvious reasons). But I'm still in for maher (who at least calls them out from time to time) and oliver -and maybe GOT dragons 2. Otherwise I would be considering cancelling my subscription as well.
I really wish they would give pizzolatto his show back -much of the problem seems to stem from that -as he has comically pointed out the other day 🙂
Also happen to notice too how "critics" of this fourth season are always carefully dancing around the WOKE element in their wording -which has been agitating to me lately. It seems to take a level of boldness that matt, woody, and even nic don't possess

7 days after this video was posted the scores are Avg 78% - Aud 57%, which is not that bad compared to the previous 2 seasons. The fact that the director is paying so much attention to it to even attack the audience from the first Season (Best IMO) just looks brat. Its over.

It's unwatchable. It's vulgar, hateful and exhaaauuusting with all the talking points checking the boxes. The only thing that it shows realistically, is how atomized and hateful we have been made to become. Depending on who the focus is on, in a different context, the 'enemy' status suddenly is shifting against the protected group (women, blks, etc.) and I'm finding it deeply saddening. Funny, how an ideology (woke) that preaches 'inclusion' and tolerance accomplishes nothing but hate and fragmentation. May be that's the real goal.

This was awful. And HBO is agressively defending this on social media and all the praise and defense looks faker than those CGI deer. Awful, awful, awful.
The fake polar bear looked like something produced in the eighties with an old pc and floppy drive. They didn't spend much on the special effects.
2.5 is indeed a tad generous for this mess…never mind the identity politics. The dialogue is infantile. The editing and direction are mishandled and creates confusion for timeline and plot viability. Episode 6 is one of the worst directed and edited episodes of any HBO series I have watched.
It is un-watchable indeed, because of heavy woke virtue signaling, therefore me, myself and my white arse(something mentioned in the episode 1) are out

I would give it a 1 out of 5 as the first 10 minutes of it reminded me of the movie The Thing .After that it was just ongoing woke nonsense and so boring mainly because of the poor writing. I have just watched episode 3 but I am not going back to watch it till the end. I believe that it would be a waste of time.
1st one was great. 2nd had issues and, correct, odd tone, but also far better than todays garbage.
myself, do not place farell near harrelson and mccaunaghey level...closer to how foxx (save for "jango") and leto are hit or miss, better as support actors.
(schumaccher's "phone booth" was great with cohen's script but especially because of sutherland's 'caller', whom we didn't even see...like foxx backed, but in actuality led, by cruise in "collateral")
s3 was also very good, maharshela is a good actor...1st 1/2 of "luke cage" was quite good because of cottonmouth...too bad they did injustice to the primary villain in the 2nd 1/2.

Great point -would have been a good show with just that title to sell to hulu or amazon -maybe even disney would pick it up🙂 This was not an HBO level effort to follow up any of its material, let alone true detective -foster being the in the lead or no.....
Loved your review, exactly my thoughts.... Did you notice the reverese masculinity of the black girl in the s. scene? Objectifying the poor whining bearded boy by the strong black toatooed woman who came to gusur6, effed him and left him on the bed once it was over and left, couldn't help laughing, hope the next episode has less boring exposition, clunky dialogue, jokes falling flat and the uninspired cliffhangers but more of Jodie Foster, too good for this series

I'm literally terminally depressed and when i saw that a 4th season were coming, it gave me hope. The more i knew about, the more i was losing hope but after watching i just lost the little will to live i had. True Detective / Matrix / Watchmen are my favorite pieces of art. All of them got ruined by new age sequels. I'm finished.
Go read “From Hell” by Alan Moore, my brother. DO NOT watch the film version.
Yeah. The comic sequels of Watchmen are not so good. And the 2019 series is not good either. The only other PERFECT Watchmen thing was Zack Snyder's movie versions adaptations .

You nailed it identity politics, funny though thinking back if you remove all the politics the show was pretty good but like you said they just cram it down your throat, and that sex scene was a cringe fest, what is this Spartacus 😂 no need to see Eskimos screwing in Alaska. Stick to the detective story, the missing researchers, the supernatural and you've got a hit. I guess time will tell.

"Representation Instead Of Story". S.I.O.S "Smut Instead of Substance". It is an insult to call this excrement "True Detective". This is "HUE Detective"... "when being good at anything is all about your skin color". So sick of "The Message" ruining franchises. This pandering, cringe and nauseating "Message Packed" indoctrination film cannot touch Carcosa and "The King in Yellow" or come anywhere near season 1 of "True Detective".

I gave it a 5/10 for the identity politics overall. There was SOOOO much of it. But there is a story there but it barely scratched the surface.
I am right wing and I don't enjoy the consistent reminder of white privilege gay women and sissy men but the story does seem interesting something super natural is going on but the politics extremely heavy
@@myreview-aaronfischerYour rating is much too high. The identity politics aside the addition of supernatural elements ruin it as part of the "True Detective" genre. Also, the CGI effects are really bad especially by today's standards; it's clear they made this as cheaply as possible and it shows from that to the writing and directing. It's a one star.

I want to preface this question by saying that I am not someone who denies that political messaging is put into media and that it is getting out of hand, but is this show actually Woke? Many of these things you mentioned are actually relevant to the area of Alaska or are issues that are actually quite common there. Such as racial tensions between whites and the Inuit. It's also worth noting that the woman who knocked someone out has police training and is played by a female boxer who could indeed knock a man out. Also, if your investigating missing people then isn't it good police procedure to know the gender of everyone at the facility. Is it woke if the issues are actually relevant to the setting of the show? Also, how come a show like Yellowstone, which has many of the exact same themes and a horrid female character in Beth not get criticized for being woke? I just don't understand what the criteria for deciding this stuff is anymore.
You are right. BUT, it gets the high woke score when they make all the men weak and inferior. You can show the racial tension without outright mentioning it 4 times in an hour. It's ridiculous.

With two strong female leads, you would figure that (naturally) the story would be told more from a feminine perspective. I've never been to Alaska, so I was wondering if that's just how the racial culture is there. How do the indigenous Alaskan get along with causian Alaskans. Because (as we should know), racial culture varies from region to region. So I just accepted that aspect.
In conjunction with your review, I actually thought that season 3 was pretty heavy on the racial landscape as well. But personally, I did enjoyed this first episode. As I watch the following episodes, as the storyline goes on, I will keep your view points in mind. Nice review.👍🏼

I think the only thing that bothered me about the show concerning identity politics is when Navarro mentioned 2 times that white people are the problem but Jodie Foster shuts it down right away so it doesn’t get to out of hand. Overall the show is pretty interesting so far and pretty cool how it connects back to Season 1.
