      I do Love the Honda Mower, this video was from last year. Need to do another video on it from this year. I installed a hour meter on the mower and we put 90 hours on it this year , so I am guessing around 200 hours have been put on it in two years. It did better this year, but will be replacing it next year. I never use the warranty, because we mow so much with the mowers. It is a great mower. Thanks. 👍

      @@yadda10akataxpayinvoter Very Funny, but true in this case. We do use the mower a lot , and really none of the issues were out of the realm of to be expected problems or difficult. Watched a couple videos to see how to adjust the drive cable. I did crank up the rpm to 3k . But I guess companies do like me, I just like to fix or break things more myself. Thanks again .

  • @ChrisArkwright

    #4 - You'd think they would have figured out a way to close off the chute completely instead of letting some debris come through. Odd to design it that way.

    • @MemphisMower
      @MemphisMower  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. It is an annoying problem, because it does make using the mulch handle impossible to use at times and requires some work and frustration to get it cleared. But I do Love the mower. Thank you

    • @ChrisArkwright
      @ChrisArkwright 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MemphisMower I think I figured out why they leave a little gap in the chute plug... It might be because the deck of the mower goes so low to the ground and the engine is so powerful that it needs to have somewhere for the air to exit and create suction... otherwise it would probably just blow the grass out from under the mower. Not sure if that's right, but after looking at the design, that is my best guess.

    • @jjparody8257
      @jjparody8257 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisArkwright I think you may have nailed it. I have 2 pre-2010 HRX's that have the gap. So, if this was a flaw, you would think Honda, known for it's precise engineering, would have corrected it by now. Still, I wonder why Toro has such a good mulch blocking design (no loose debris in the chute area) and the suction is excellent. Toro does have a side discharge though ... maybe that's part of it.

I have used other people's Honda 217's before they put the plastic drive control paddle on it and an 8 year old model would be so slow that I pushed the darn thing for the entire lawn instead of using the self-propel. The loss of speed is from the slipping belt design on that model. Lots of mowers have a slipping belt design. Toro being another. If you change the drive belt, it will most probably return to the earlier settings. I have the HYA version. That is a hydrostatic trans without the slipping belt.

    • @MemphisMower
      @MemphisMower  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you . I was able to adjust the drive cable. There are two turnbuckles in there middle of the cable . It is back to full drive power, for now. Also, added a tach/hour meter. Thank You and take care.

    • @puncht37
      @puncht37 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MemphisMower Yes. One can get cable stretch and cause it not to tighten the belt as much. But, by design, the thing moves by tightening or loosening the belt. So, the belt wears by sliding on the pulleys as the engine runs. The pulleys also wear badly over time. So, later, when one changes the belt and pulleys together on an older mower, it`s like a rocket.

    I bought my first Honda mower this April, used about 10 times so far, I bought the one with the rotostop feature and select drive system.It’s the select drive system that I’m questioning, seems like I have to play with that knob constantly, I find a nice speed on a flat surface, but when I turn and go up a very slight incline the mower stops, so I dial it up to get the mower moving, then return to flat surface the mower is going way to fast, it’s constant adjusting, is this normal, are other users having this same issue???

    • @MemphisMower
      @MemphisMower  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, it is a great mower. I don’t have the rotostop, but have always wanting one with that feature. One day. Anyway, the direct drive does work great. I have found that I have to adjust the cable tension every once in a while. ( turnbuckles located on the cable in the middle of the handle, left side). I try to adjust these so that I can keep the selector knob around five to seven and only squeeze the handle halfway, when going up the hill all you should have to do is squeeze the handle more. Hope this helps.

    They are great mowers but kinda over priced I think. I bought the hrx217hza a month ago and with about 8 hours run time on it the mower leaks oil from the valve cover, governor shaft and fill tube. Enough that the entire engine is coated in oil on the back and I've used it 4 times. Also randomly idle rough and vibrates really bad. When I bag it leaves a ton of stuff where the bag attaches that falls onto the lawn every time I empty. It also fills up with clippings where the adjustable slide is for the versamow and will jam if you don't clean it. The wheels are mounted kinda crappy mine sag noticeably from when I got it after 4 uses. The new style engine cover is not great the old one was so much better. The new one traps a ton of debris and is secured with 4 clips that seem like they will break and 1 retaining screw. It does cut really nice though probably one of the best cutting right out of the box for mulching and bag but I kinda regret buying it with the oil leaks and all these small issues. I could get 2 snapper mowers for what I paid and they will last forever.

    • @MemphisMower
      @MemphisMower  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent Post. Thanks. I have not experienced the oil leak. But, everything else I have.

    • @zack6892
      @zack6892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MemphisMower no problem. I'm sure they all don't leak but I must have got a bad one. Not looking to knock honda it cuts great both mulching and bagging and the new engine is a great step up from the 160 finally enough torque to do fall clean up. I think it would be a good fit for a homeowner that isn't interested in changing to different blades for different applications and doesn't want any chutes to have to carry around. It would probably hold up well enough in this use but if you're looking for a mower to use even 6-7 times weekly I don't think it would last more then 4-5 years without putting money into it. I just wish I had seen more honest reviews before purchase they mostly seemed to be sponsored reviews about how perfect the mower is. It is better then all the mowers I looked at within the 700-1000$ range sure but definitely not worth 1100 for the hrx217hza model. I think I would go for the cheapest model possible if I bought this mower as you will likely have the same life span.

      Fixed it, not whining anymore. Anyway, for 850 dollars, they could of done it for me, ha, ha. I do like this mower and use it some, but have two HRN’s that I really like.

    Had an HRR, loved it until the bearing issue crept up. Traded it for an HRX - what a joke. A $600+ mower couldn’t mow 3 inch grass without bogging down. The HRR would practically brush hog at max height. Huge disappointment. $600 paperweight. The HRR would still be in my garage if it didn’t develop that stupid bearing issue.

      The HRX is an expensive mower, we just parked ours because the left wheel assy is bent. I bought an HRN and so far so good. The HRR is a great mower.

    For the wheels adjusting levels, my Honda model HRR2169VLA look better than your HRX217. By watching this video, I would not next an upgrade HRX217.

      Sunshine I do not like these wheel adjustments. The back ones are extremely hard to do, now that the mower is a year older. I am looking to replace it next year, will look at different ones. Thanks.👍
