School Progress Report in Brazil - American Kids

American kids finished their second trimester in a Brazilian school. See their progress in the Portuguese language and other school subjects. Our kids have been in school for 7 months. I am happy to report that they are doing well! We were worried because not only did they have to learn Portuguese but they had to understand all other subjects in Portuguese as well. So not only do they have to understand Math but they have to understand the concepts in Portuguese first and then complete calculation assignments in Portuguese as well. They can be very complex. The minds of children are amazing machines with a great learning capacity. They have learned the language right before my eyes. So fast and with minimal accent. This fills my heart with joy and amazes me every day. This is a big reason why we moved to Brazil, so the kids could become bi-lingual. It’s actually working!!
It has not been easy though. The kids get up very early every morning and go to school where all their friends, teachers and school work is all in Portuguese. They used to come home exhausted and overwhelmed. And their work is not over. The kids have 1 to 2 hours of homework every night.
Over all, our kids have had a great attitude about it. They have a positive attitude and never give up. The things that have helped most are reinforcement (their daily tutoring class), supportive school administration and having good friends in class. The administration has worked very closely with us having regular communication and meetings. Their friends help practice the language and remember school can be fun.
Camila and Alice are in Preschool and do not get progress reports. However, they speak amazing Portuguese and are learning so much. We are very proud of them as well.
We are coming up on our 1-year anniversary in Brazil. We are very happy with our experience here so far. As a family we are learning and growing so much, and in so many ways. We are very happy here. I love Brazil! Video 83
