  • Here is the improved version of my Nanolongrange FPV drone frame. The .stl file for 3d printing the frame can be downloaded for free on Thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:481... I'm very happy with the results. Next upgrades will focus on the FPV system (different antennas and new RX module). Update: for more range set the VTX to higher power levels (as far as your local regulations allow +25mW). I will also test 21700 batteries and the Insta360 Go 2 on this frame.

    Update: all FPV footage shown in the video was recorded with the VTX at low power (25mW). VTX power level was set to 3 (not existing) instead of 2 (max level with 200mW).

      But how does one switch vtx power? i tried using "set vtx_power=2" > "save" but it seems not to affect anything, also added "pit mode" in ranges, switch does not make any difference either

    • @Unboxingexperience7
      @Unboxingexperience7  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to enable smart audio on the corresponding UART ( I think it was UART 2) then you can switch

    • @begeekru
      @begeekru 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Unboxingexperience7 now i did that and vtx changed channel and hopefully power, but gps totally stopped working, i think i failed gps module with some data, because i did not disconnect it :( (surely i changed port settings back to gps)

    • @Unboxingexperience7

      when you switch the gps in the ports tab off, you ll loose the configuration. After enabling the gps in the ports tab, go to the configuration tab and ensure that the GPS is enabled with the correct parameters.

    Everything about this remind me of when we first started building micros but we could only dream of getting this kind of flight time, printing our own frames and having gps onboard. There’s still allot to learn if you are just getting started but it’s greatly simplified with the simplicity of this kind of setup. I’d recommend going this route for anyone wanting to get started in FPV over spending thousands of dollars on one drone only to crash it once and be done, love it.

    Best things about this are the flight time and the speed at which you can change the battery. The small quads with like a 4 minute flight time are a pain. And they often allow the battery to re-positioned each time you insert one, which can mean re-calibrating the balance again, by which time your 4 minutes are up. Great work on this!

    Great job mate, I have built 100s of drones for people and my self, I have never designed and built a drone from scratch, top 3d printing, that wind looked choppy and still kept flying stable thumbs up to you to show this is a great build, remember the rules props off or fingers off when in Betaflight setup😀 I took 3 injuries to learn the hard way, no fingers no flying or build, great job very impressed 👏

    Great job! This hobby is so amazing. It lets us be kids while using all the skills we've collected along the way or are still learning. Electronics, physics, creativity, and the thought process itself. It's not hard to see where the Chinese companies get the ideas from if you pay enough attention to youtube. I'll expect to see something like this with an 18650 on Banggood.

You can also try the salt water method for PLA. With hard stick, spray IPA on it and wait and it will delaminate itself without damage to the bed.

      wait what does the batt connector have to do with throttline issues. Daves used a pcb mount one, which would probably have had greater series resistance that would have only really mattered at high amps beyond what 18650's are capable of anyway....the power throttling is for other reasons.

      What do you think about a 2s variant? Would solve some of the issues perhaps? Even just having 2 in parallel might work because of the nature of the "18650 voltage sag" I'm just worried adding a second cell in parallel might be too much weight for 1s

      An engineer would design the frame using finite element analysis to model the force at each motor mount and determine frame deflection to build the lightest frame geometry for a desired frame flex. For optimum flight u dont necessarily want stiffness at all points. If u want minimum flex then you can't beat FEA to design it right first time every time.

    Hola !

      on nanolongrange drones you give rather constant throttle, so the voltage isn' t fluctuating much. at the start there is a big voltage sack, e.g to 3.6V. after that voltage goes down constantly.

      @@Unboxingexperience7 Oh, I have found something interesting today: BetaFPV produces their own plugs as well: BT2.0 - their weight according to BetaFPV: Male Connector- 0.34g / Female Connector - 0.24g. The GNB27 you are using weigh according to the BG listing: 0.46g / 0.36g. Joshua Bardwell tested them succesfully to 20A on 1S. The first time you use it it takes 10 minutes sometimes, then after that it goes faster but not all the time. Thats what I mean by not flawless. 110g AUW should be your limit on 3018 props. For the VTX it s necessary that the copper wire faces straight down the frame. 300m without major break ups on Eachine pro58, a pagoda and a patch. Currently I m working on improving the FPV feed. I m switching to TBS Fusion with a MenaceRC pico patch antenna on the receiver side. On the vtx I tested successfully an omni antenna. But its placement caused GPS issues... Now I m trying a whip antenna. I want to get 1.2km/0,9mi video range. I also have a fallback solution by using a tramp nano vtx. But I really want to avoid it.
