  • This is a simple 3d printed frame for a single 18650 powered FPV drone. The frame weighs only 10g, overall weight including 18650 Li-Ion battery is around 97g. Flight times are +19min. I think it is feasible to get well over 20min as the temperature was around 5°C during the test, I stayed on the stock PIDs and the VTX was set to 100mW.

    Pretty cool. So many mini quads have a flight time of about 4 minutes, which just isn't enough time to learn anything, other than to learn how to swap a battery out! And it's well within the 250g license limit as well.

      Thanks for the tip! I though it would be more efficient...

    • @JasonEllingsworth
      @JasonEllingsworth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That entirely depends on the drone and what you are trying to achieve. Small drones/whoops are angle/horizon mode drones. They will actually fly better and longer this way, as they don't have the weight and power to control them properly in acro, and you will only be fighting yourself. Cinewhoops can go either way depending on the shot. Indoors or making a mostly straight shot with maybe an orbit will look best on angle mode and require less post processing magic to clean it up. However if you want to dive and roll around objects, acro is going to look smoother.

    • @ryanokeefe12
      @ryanokeefe12 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonEllingsworth You're kidding yourself... Whoops are flown in angle mode because of the tight spaces and slower roll rate.
      Anyone who makes money flying cinewhoops flies in acro. Any form of cinematic flying in angle mode will always look robotic and not flow as nicely because the angle limiting that is restrics the quad to preset tilt angles fights the natural flow of the quad.
      Angle mode/horizon mode makes constant corrections to maintain attitude. Acro mode simply acts on the stick input and then remains in that position until another input is received. The additional corrections is what causes angle and horizon mode to use more power.
      Please make sure what you're saying has actual truth and fact behind it rather than your own assumption/opinion before trying to correct someone.
      If been doing this stuff for a long long time. I've tried every way of doing things and I'm not afraid of being wrong because I'd rather be wrong and then have a better outcome, than be stubborn and continue to do something when there is a potentially better way to do things.

    Interesting idea. This inspired me to I throw a high drain 18650 on a Tinyhawk Freestyle. I'm only getting a few minutes before I'm down to 3.2V but as soon as I land it's bouncing back to 4V. Might have to find some other cells. Did you see any damage from pulling them this low?

    • @disco.volante
      @disco.volante 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could use a high discharge cell. Often the Murata/Sony VTC6 is used, it can be discharged to 2.5V in flight without any problem, according to data sheet even to 2.0V (but at very low amps only). As Li-Ion cells work at a much wider voltage band than Lipos, it is also recommend to adjust the Betaflight voltage warning settings accordingly. Good luck!

    • @AlexanderGee
      @AlexanderGee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Disco Volante Thanks I didn't know the min voltage could be that low! The 20 amp rated Samsung cells I tried sagged just too quickly. Anything below 3.1V and hover becomes impossible with this setup. I picked up some Vapcell 38 amp continuous draw cells to try another test from their performance graphs they should stay above that 3.1V at my current draw for about 70% of their rated capacity.

    • @disco.volante
      @disco.volante 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you use it on a stock Tinyhawk Freestyle? This model is normally operating with 2 cells, so you will have way too low thrust with a 1 cell setup.

    • @badraven9532
      @badraven9532 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@disco.volante Not so, the stock THF is 1/2 cell, and flies perfectly well on 450/520/650 GNB 1S LiPo. Better for indoor/garden spaces. The issue with using Li-ion is the weight of 2600/3000mAh high discharge cells, but then you would not expect the THF to manage a 3000mAh LiPo, would you.

    I've downloaded and printed this frame and it works outstanding. I'm on my 4th frame printed in PETG as the camera mount keeps breaking in crashes. It snaps off where it joins with the rest of the frame. Not a big deal but something to improve if you decide to see if you can make that area more robust. Thanks!

    • @Unboxingexperience7
      @Unboxingexperience7  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      a better rc system :-) there is no common definition, but usually it is about long flight times using 18650 batteries combined with a strong vtx and radio link. long range is about exploring, so you need a few km/mi range.

    • @mosesm.3431
      @mosesm.3431 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can "legally" call it "long range" so long as you can't see the quad anymore with a naked eye. That definition is generally accepted in the community. A big quad usually has more capability and is larger, therefore you have to go out pretty far in order to call it long range. Whereas a tiny whoop going to the end of the block could be considered long range. I all depends on the aircraft you are flying. Hope that helps! :)

    • @konstantkrash
      @konstantkrash 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am no expert but I consider long range referring to distance. That requires duration of the battery. Long range, to me, exceeds kilometer.

      @@Unboxingexperience7 I agree. My particular issue at this moment is the (now murata) 18650 3000nAh vtc6. Take off to hover is nominal at about 50% throttle and is held for 2 minutes until small increase is needed to maintain altitude. At 3 minutes I must advance throttle to full as the drone bumps it bottom on the ground. At 4 minutes plus I'm lucky to get a foot off the ground.
