I was on that cruise, and her cabin was on our deck about 6 doors down from us. The ship waited 2 hours after our scheduled leave time waiting on her. They announced over the PA that they confirmed that she had her passport, and authorities were aware that she was being left
As an Operation Specialist who helps to navigate ships. It is very important for each vessel to get underway on time. There are sea traffic, just like road and air traffic. Sea traffic regulations must be followed. If not followed for any reason such as delays, etc, they have to pay a lot of money to the authorities in charge coupled with paperwork. It’s about time for entitled people to stay home. There are rules to abide by all around us.
Plus, every moment the port has to stay open while a ship waits for passengers, someone has to pay the employees to keep the port open. Guess who pays that? I don’t think people realize cruise ships are cogs in a massive machine keeping the seas functioning. It’s not your private boat you pull up to a restaurant dock. 😂
She wasn't even on the pier when she noticed (or starting recording) the ship in the distance. Ships won't wait for you just because you're having a good time in the port. 100% agree with you. I think you'll have a great time in Antarctica, and I'm looking forwards to seeing your vlogs! Safe travels!
I totally agree, J. That ship is pretty far away, so that wasn't a minor miscalculation. Good reminder about an important aspect of cruising. Oo, can't wait to see your cruise! It sounds amazing!
According to a follow up video on her TikTok, she got drunk and fell asleep. That’s why she missed the ship. Whole different situation than “my boat left me”. 🙄
I take getting back to the ship on time seriously and always allow more time than needed to get back. I had a scare on a Mediterranean cruise where I nearly missed the ship in Crete. I was burnt out on guided tours so I canceled my ship excursion and just used the ship's transportation to the center of town. We were in port about 4.5 hours that day and the bus ride was about 20 minutes. Although I allowed myself ample time to get to the bus, I did not anticipate how different the area would look when the city woke up. I was dropped off at 7:30am in town and when I went to the area where to catch the buses, I was disoriented. After about an hour and half, I finally saw a bus and confirmed it was the correct bus to the port. I ended up boarding the ship a mere 15 minutes before all aboard. Lesson I learned is that when in port for such as brief time, it is best to do a ship excursion unless the port is in walking distance from the city. Also, take photos and write down details to help you remember where to catch your transportation back to the ship if you do need transport back to the ship. Scary experience but thankfully, I was not left behind.
That "disoriented" thing, had NEVER happened to me before (I'm typically great at landmarks & directions)... until it did... I now take photos and notes too!! Safe travels all!!

My oldest two sons (they were 14 at the time) and I took the overnight cruise ferry from Helsinki, Finland, to St. Petersburg, Russia. We had one day in the town, then it left at night back for Helsinki. It was a Visa free entry because we came in by cruise ferry. But everyone - from the ship agents at Helsinki, to the information we were given on the visa free restrictions - said DO NOT MISS YOUR BOAT! If we did, it would make us in violation of Russian immigration law and we would be arrested. I made sure to set alarms in my phone, and periodically check the time, in order to leave with plenty of time to get back to the ship. And we did. Being a responsible adult is not that hard.
Oh, your upcoming trip sounds interesting! You’re be the first TH-camr I recall that will be sharing Antartica within, I’m excited! Hat looks nice, warm and needed for trip!
Being late to return to the ship is ABSOLUTELY out of the question. I’d rather return early than late 10 times out of 10. Nothing is worth being left behind

I was being booed by balcony folks but I was on crutches in a full leg cast. I waved goodbye to the ship but the Capt sent dock guys to get me. That is customer service folks
I watched from the promenade deck as we waited for a few latecomers. The head of the hotel department was standing at the base of the gangway with passports in her hand. Apparently on HAL they go to your stateroom safe, get your passport and give it to the port authority if they have to leave without you. In this particular case, the couple came running as the crew started to prepare to push away from the dock.

I think she video tape a second ship. That was probably also a 2nd ship docked, that happen to leave before her ship. Often times there are two ships dock at the same time, but one comes and leaves before the other …so I don’t think she was left. What we see is the other ship leaving. Lol
Antarctica is my “bucket list” cruise. It will take quite a bit of saving up - haha! I cruise solo and $12,000 is a chunk of cash. I ALMOST missed a cruise once in Palma de Majorca. It was due to the fabulous bar scene just off the dock. I wasn’t so much a pier runner as a pier staggerer. I had to board the ship through the crew entrance. I learned my lesson. A side note: the hat looks great on you!
Our niece and her boyfriend were left in Russia. They missed their ship, it was their own fault not watching the clock. She said it was really scary. Good thing her boyfriend is a well off dude. She said they just lost track of time.

I try to have atleast a 2 hour cushion to get back on ship! I noticed last month the island on Carnival has to check bags (meaning standing in a line) before getting on the taxi boat...😅
This happened to people I was cruising with a long time ago. Their teen daughter and her boyfriend rented a scooter and were buzzing around and thought it was the time on their wristwatches. The cruise company had the parents down at the gangplank talking to them after some pages and then the teens just wandered on with like 10 mins remaining utterly clueless. This was well before cell phones were common.
My first cruise departed from England, sailed to St Petersburg and then back. That's a lot of different time zones. I think we were resetting our watches every other day or so. For every time change, the stewards would leave a card in the cabins so everyone was well informed.
I just got back from an Antarctic cruise yesterday. It was right at or just above freezing while we were there. We had zero use for the majority of our cold weather gear. It only gets to -35f in winter, not at the end of summer. Cruises to Antarctica are going to start being curtailed dramatically so if you want to watch orcas eating penguins best look in to it soon. And if you get to Ushuaia and don’t have a cruise booked you can often ask the cruise ships directly and get a room for around $4,000 each rather than $20,000 and up. The difference between a $20,000 cruise and a $3,000 HAL or celebrity cruise are no opportunities to actually touch the soil but small ships will get you right up in the penguin poop.
I’m always back at least 2 hours before all aboard. On my cruise in Portugal there were some extremely late comers to the point that the ship started to lift up the gangway (I was sitting on my balcony) the people had to jump onto the gangway. A lot of the passengers were boo’ing them too for being so late. They called their names multiple times on the overhead system too.
J. Ooh. Antarctica. Nice. Oh my. She had to be very late for the ship to be wayyyy out there in the water 🤦♀️. We like to get off and get back on earth to enjoy a less crowded ship.
Wear a wrist watch that is on ship's time, don't rely on your phone to keep track of the time. Book excursions through the cruiseline unless you have knowledge of the other options and that they will get you back to the ship on time by ship's time. Have a passport because you cannot fly back to the USA or to any other country without a passport. Have travel insurance and a credit card, access to cash if you need it. Just know what time you are due back to the ship and stay on ship's time and there's no problem. I like to come back to the ship 1-2 hours before the due back time just to be safe. I just don't want to be a pier runner or left by the ship. Cruise safely. BON VOYAGE. Nice update Jay.
One of my biggest asscrewing I got in 20 years in the Navy was holding up my ship from getting underway while gathering our security cones off the pier that last nights’ duty section was supposed to have got them.
The only time we were late was in Istanbul where all the excursions were late (due to late arrival that morning). We were on a ship-booked excursion so I knew they’d wait for us, and we got to the ship a half hour late. The crazy thing is… we were in a line almost an additional hour to get back on the ship. And the line behind us went on forever. The people in line in front of us were not on a ship excursion and were still convinced the ship would leave without them and were still panicked. Calm down… you got lucky 😅
Question… what’s the process if the ship leaves without you and the next port is one of their private islands (ex: Coco Cay)? Last time I checked Delta doesn’t fly there 😂😂
Yeah, that's what I would expect to happen. You just skip the private island port and get to spend an extra day & night (at your expense) at the following port.
I have cruised quite a bit but will generally make sure to either use the cruise lines excursion or go off and do my own thing and definitely if I do that I will always double check that my phone is set to the ship time and not the time of the port I am in. I know generally all the excursions usually try to get you back on time but I feel a bit more safe doing it the other way just because of things that could possibly go wrong.
I have heard, but have not tested it out :) that the cruise line will go into your safe and look for a passport and leave it with the port authority for you to pick up after they leave you.
Unless we are on a cruise ship excursion, we are on the ship an hour early. We had a 3 hour delay on Dominica when our tour bus got a flat and bent a rim. Was so happy to see the ship when we got back to the port. Our group of about 20 still, was being booed for being "PIER RUNNERS"!!! LOL!
As an current cruise line worker the “On Board Time” is not posted for decoration. If they leave employees they will leave you! I have seen employees loose their jobs just because they didn’t get back in time. They may wait a few minutes if it’s a lot of passengers but they have a scheduled and will stick to it. Don’t risk it
The cruise ships have to keep their schedule however there is a lot of extra buffer built in because we arrived back to Tampa at 3am to avoid "fog." This also meant the casino shut down at 10pm which was fine with me.
I am taking my first cruise this summer and hope i don't make these mistakes. I recently subbed to your patreon as I am trying to not be a horrible first time cruiser. Do you have a video for first time cruisers tips or tricks or just maybe general guidelines to not be a horrible cruiser
also check out Gary Bembridge's (sp?) videos, he has some great ones for first time cruisers. I like to watch several different vloggers as they give different perspectives. Also, search youtube for "pier runners" if you want a laugh.
My attitude is that if the ship says that sailaway is say 6:00 they should drop the lines and sail away at precisely 6:00. Even if you are running down the dock they should leave. It should be made to all aboard that the sailaway is when the ship leaves and you are expected to be on board before sailaway time. If you miss the ship tough on you. You deserve it. D
Hi Jay: I am a new cruiser. Can u please discuss Bliss Cruise 🚢 and how they clean up the ships after they are chartered by them. I am afraid to know what goes on in the cabins and the sheets. I even heard they sometimes use the Odyssey of the Seas - and I am terrified.
I call BS! Do we know for sure that she missed the boat and just didn't stage this for likes/clout? I ask because what cruise port would put her that high up. When she scans the port she is at the height of someone standing on the deck of a cruise ship. If you are stuck on the island your view would be from the dock. At 2:36 the view should be straight on. She can see pretty far on the island. You have to be high up to see all that. Also she tagged celebrity and carnival? Something smells fishy! That's not disagreeing with your video! Be on time people.
Fully agree!! Looks like it was her fault. I hope you and Lauren have a FANTASTIC time on your Antarctic cruise!! You are going to have to have a blast to get your moneys worth! I'm sure you will.
Cruise lines pay rental on the dock space they use. If they do not Lea e on time their rental rate goes up that they have to pay. Cost probably thousands.
On my very first cruise and at my very first port my excursion was an hour late getting back to the ship! It was a ship excursion so all was good but I will not take a chance on my own if I can’t be back a few hours before all aboard!
99% of the time, there is no excuse to be late. It is not only negligent. It is selfish. You are holding back the schedules of thousands of people. Also, you are holding up the port. The port charges cruise lines by the hour to dock. And if it's a multipurpose port, there is probably another ship waiting or scheduled to take up that dock when your cruise leaves. This is why cruises will only wait so long before they decide to just leave you. In fact, its just being generous if they do. Because they are not obligated to wait for you at all outside the scheduled ship times.
My exboyfriends mom and aunt yelled and screamed at us on the beach on a cruise once for wanting to go back to the ship 2 hrs early jic. The ship didn’t even wait 30 minutes for them. They ended up stuck in grand Turk for 8 days after the boat left them 😂
I was on a cruise this week and 2 woman never got to the ship. In Bonaire that Island is so lonley that if they need it to take a small plane for the next Island and that is going to cost a lot if they found one. But what will happen to their stuff on the ship?
I was really new to cruising and cruised to Bermuda. I tried to go do cliff jumping 90 mins before the ship was to leave and all of the taxis said no to taking me bc they didn't want me to risk not making it back in time. I appreciated their honesty

Good Advice. 👍 I try to do that myself because I am afraid to be left behind. Plus, I always enjoy hanging out on the ship.
That’s exactly what I was going to say. I cruised before so I always made it back to the ship 2 hours early

On my first cruise over 10 years ago I did a private excursion but it was a 7 minute walk from the cruise port so I was safe there.
Can't wait to see the content on the luxury cruise.
Question… what’s the process if the ship leaves without you and the next port is one of their private islands (ex: Coco Cay)? Last time I checked Delta doesn’t fly there 😂😂
become a good swimmer and fast.
Take a boat to the next island
LOL!
That’s cool about the Globetrotters. I’m from MN. It get ridiculously cold there!!!! 🥶🥶🥶 I’ve been there in -90 windchill
As an current cruise line worker the “On Board Time” is not posted for decoration. If they leave employees they will leave you! I have seen employees loose their jobs just because they didn’t get back in time. They may wait a few minutes if it’s a lot of passengers but they have a scheduled and will stick to it. Don’t risk it
Great video! Looking forward to your posts from Antarctica! ❄️ 🥶 😊
Absolutely live the hat!
The cruise ships have to keep their schedule however there is a lot of extra buffer built in because we arrived back to Tampa at 3am to avoid "fog." This also meant the casino shut down at 10pm which was fine with me.
I almost missed getting back on Amtrak in Albuquerque. *My* almost mistake!
Awesome hat man!
So interesting the vibe of the comments depending on the person the video is about. Just an observation
My friend took the Antarctic cruise and loved it.
GOODY 😩😩😂😂🤷♀ the ship didn't miss her, she missed the ship 💯
On another of her videos, she stated that she was carbs bar, got drunk and fell asleep.
The' Cruise 🛳 Ain't Hardly🙄 left Her' ! 👀🧐 🥰 🤣😂...
D
I am not fond of cruises, but this Antarctic one is one I might actually go on.
Great advice J
Hi Jay: I am a new cruiser. Can u please discuss Bliss Cruise 🚢 and how they clean up the ships after they are chartered by them. I am afraid to know what goes on in the cabins and the sheets. I even heard they sometimes use the Odyssey of the Seas - and I am terrified.
Woohoo for our renewed passport this🎉 week
Hmmm & just have to dress like a stripper to let the uninterested know..
Mad respect that they put up the camera and knew exactly what to do. It's pretty boss to just catch up with the ship the next day.
Love the head decor
That's why I got a cove balcony. So I can see the port runners up close.
I ALWAYS get to cruise city 1-2 days EARLY. Never left behind.
I'm always 20 minutes early. Always!!!
My wife says am Always early…..
On my very first cruise and at my very first port my excursion was an hour late getting back to the ship! It was a ship excursion so all was good but I will not take a chance on my own if I can’t be back a few hours before all aboard!
You truly crack me up! 😂
Safe travels Jay!
My exboyfriends mom and aunt yelled and screamed at us on the beach on a cruise once for wanting to go back to the ship 2 hrs early jic. The ship didn’t even wait 30 minutes for them. They ended up stuck in grand Turk for 8 days after the boat left them 😂
She looks like one of those so called "Bad Bish" and didn't believe they would leave her.
Wow! Enjoy! Please show pictures of Penguins 🐧
Looking forward to pier-runner season
You and Loran keep warm on your next cruise burrrrr
Pier runners 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Enjoy your expedition cruise! I want to do one but my hubby said I am not built for that kind of cold 😂😂😂
When we were in Antartica my sister from Buffalo noted it was colder at home!
the cruise ships provide you with all the cold weather gear - it's not good for business if the customers are freezing cold!
Antarctica sounds hype!!
And Cold!!!🥶 But I can’t wait!!!
@@JSHIPLIFE Dont forget ya willy warmer pmsl :D :D
$12,000!!?? To freeze!!😯Hope you had a good time.
No comment on her🙄
We do the Cruise line excursions so the ship has to wait provided its the tour people fault.
AH SO! That explains the trooper hat. Bon Voyage.
spring break starts on march 11 for us
I was on a cruise this week and 2 woman never got to the ship. In Bonaire that Island is so lonley that if they need it to take a small plane for the next Island and that is going to cost a lot if they found one. But what will happen to their stuff on the ship?
