  • Hey all! In this video we are replacing the left stick on a Nintendo Switch Lite. The stick was damaged when something wet got into it, no thanks to the child that owns it. I hope this video gives everyone out there the confidence to perform this repair.

    I fell down some stairs, carrying my Switch Lite, after owning it about a month, and ended up with a nasty dead zone on one of the analog sticks. I’ve never repaired electronics in my life but managed to swap it out with the help of this video, and now it feels good as new. Thank you! 👏👏👏

    Thank you for this video! I LOVE my switch lite and tonight the left stick snapped. I’m used to working on broken GBA but was pretty convinced this fix was going to be a massive pain given how often I hear the original switch is tough to work on. I definitely feel confident I can handle it after watching this- doesn’t look any more complicated than what I’m used to. Just ordered my replacement parts, I can’t wait to get started on the repair.

    • @PunchNpie
      @PunchNpie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think now that I’ve been playing it for a bit, it feels slightly looser than the original but I really have to focus hard in order to tell. If I wasn’t paying attention and trying to feel a difference I don’t think I’d even notice. Given how many hours I play the switch lite and how familiar I am with it, that’s saying something. I’ll take it- lol! Really glad I didn’t have to send it to Nintendo

    Thank you for this video, was very helpful. One very helpful tip not made clear for the benefit of other would-be switch fixers: There is a 'lock' on the ribbon cable housing that flips up! I didn't notice this mentioned until the re-assembly later on in the video. I also used a paper plate to set parts and screws in a clockwise order to help remember what screws go where later.

    My switch lite did the same thing on the left stick. The bouncing thing and it also drifted to the right sometimes. I only had it for 2 days when it first started but due to the switch lites being sold out i was unable to replace the whole unit. I also don’t want to wait until Nintendo reopens the repair shops and have to be without it for 2 weeks so I just ordered a repair kit last night. Hopefully it goes smooth. I went ahead and did it. I got a slightly different kit from the one you did. But I think the thumbsticks are the exact same ones. I ended up with a couple extra screws when I was done. But it's back together and it seems to work fine. The funny thing is the kit came with some thumb grips with paw prints on them and those actually hindered the use of the sticks when I put them on. I thought the new one was failing too but it was those damn grips hahaha

    • @PunchNpie
      @PunchNpie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol that’s funny, I imagine it’s the same factory that makes all the sticks and there are probably thousands of Chinese e-commerce outlets selling them. Good to know about the grips though. Glad everything worked out for you and I think it’s funny how there is always 1 or 2 extra screws.

      What kind of warranty do you have? Is just the Nintendo warranty or is it a accidental damage warranty?

    • @melaphiney
      @melaphiney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PunchNpie I’m pretty sure it’s just the nintendo 1 year warranty that comes with it?? I’m not too sure, but I think so.

    • @PunchNpie
      @PunchNpie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would be concerned with the turn around time with Nintendo right now, if they will even fix it. Do you feel confident that you or your dad could replace the stick? It’s not super difficult but you have to be very careful obviously.

    • @melaphiney
      @melaphiney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PunchNpie I’m pretty sure my dad could figure out how to fix it if I showed him this video so he could get a clear idea on how to go about it! If not though, I’ll contact nintendo probably about what we could potentially do about a warranty. The joystick still half works, it works to move left and right just not up and down, so that’s good ://

      I think so, just make sure to be careful with the small cables. Some are ribbons and some are push on connectors. Also make sure to remove all necessary screws and remember where they all go when reinstalling and assembly. Is it the left or the right stick?

    • @PunchNpie
      @PunchNpie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely not an issue at all. The switch will not erase your data swapping out a stick. When I turned the switch back on in the video, if I remember correctly, everything was still the same as if I had only powered it down.

    Im scare for fix my left one on my lite, the left d pads on lite are notorious of braking more then the right one, I hear more cases of left then right, in my left d pad, it have the same problem as your daughter one, it bounce back after you push it all the way to the right, and didn't drop nothing on it, maybe is because I was playing fps games, and I took it to rough I guess and broke, or maybe is sweat or oil from finger, or dust maybe, but the thing is, it is hard for me to play games now, cuz the fucking thing keeps bouncing back for no reason, as you said, is the opposite of drifting, I never fix electronics before, like disarming it, I only fix electronics on hardware, like programs installations, jailbreaks, etc, but never open them, this will be my first time to open a device myself in my life, and I hope I don't brake it, cuz this Switch Lite isn't that cheap for sure, for someone that cannot afford it, I can buy a new one if I want to, but why I should spend my money for a new one, cuz of one d pad, hell nah, I will try my best to fix it, this video motivates me to do it, but at the same time puts me fear within, it looks easy on the video, but like some says, expectations versus reality.

      When I made this video, I didn’t expect to hear so many stories from people like you. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
