(The engagement ring can go on the right hand or given to a sister, Mum, bridesmaid to look after.) The finger is then bare for the wedding ring to take the No1 spot. Then later on during the day, the engagement ring goes on top. Then in later years, if an eternity ring is given, it then sits on top of the engagement ring creating a 'sandwich' effect.
