This brings up an interesting question. The whole "Classic Sonic" thing seems to have been well recieved, so...where do you think the series goes from here? Do you think "Classic Sonic" will have his own series of games?
I like how Crisis City teased you, thinking it was the end of the level, only to find out that you had to go through another fourth of the level to really complete it. Personally, I found this pretty funny.
Finally at the end of the video. Really nice touch with putting the game's end credits as the last song to play at the background. Gave it more of a finality.
After seeing nearly an hour of the game, all I have to say: Classic Sonic is back, and it's a beautiful sight to behold. Hope to actually play the game, one of these days.
@TimeFireProductions maybe my controller was lacking battery power. when im trying to be quick about the game a challenge act or try beat my time i run into the problems i stated. thanks for comment, i do love the game though its great stuff.
im not sure if Johnny means gameplay wise or actual character, but in the super sonic fight you do actually switch characters when pressing Y or triangle or whatever
The Egg Dragoon kinda looks like Unleashed's with that Egg dragon thing from 06's wings, and Egg Viper's tail. It's really cool... and all the bosses sorta feel like they could be from their "eras" too. That was a nice touch.
Am I the only one who really loves Planet Wisp? Both Classic and Modern. The remixes are amazing and the level design is so vast. Also, it makes more sense for it to be focused on the factory section due to its placement in the game. What kind of Sonic game has a bright vivid green paradise for the majority of a final level? The transition from the green to the factory just shows off the sense of corruption in the level.
Actually Johnny, I was half wrong about Classic Super Sonic being able to do the boost dash, He can do it but only in the Time Eater Boss Fight, (yes you DO play as Classic Super Sonic in that fight because when you switch views, if you look closely when you switch from 2D to 3D, you'll notice that in the 3D modern Sonic view, Classic is on Modern's Left, when you switch, Classic will swerve to the right.)
HEY, I liked the final boss! As I was able to figure it out! Modern Sonic can hurt the boss while he's inside of the stream. Classic can hurt him when he's outside. Second Super Sonic can be used as a missle to destroy flying debris. Simple? Simple.
I think the elemental shields mechanic should be you hit a monitor that has the shield and then you have it and can activate it when you chose or hit another monitor to later get a different shield.
Aw, I was kinda hoping to hear in Crisis City there was a line of rings impossible to get just for lols, Nice impressions video btw guys, I have yet to get my copy [I'm gonna get the steam copy just need some cash] judging by what you 3 and Clement had to say its well worth the purchase =D
I can't get past the crusher part in Planet Wisp Modern. The platforms go in and I can't get them to come out, the the rocket's won't go left or right.
About the wisps, I think Sega tried to give Modern Sonic a wisp that was in both games of Colours and give Classic a wisp that is exclusive to that version of the game.
@gamefreakDX True but just because Classic Sonic goes to Sky Sancturay doesn't mean he's been through it YET, take future(or current technically but whatever) levels for examples.
@fireheart4560 Giant katamari ball of debris works so well with silver. that should have been one of his specials in 06. also love how fast he flies. gotta wonder if he was meant to fly that fast in 06?
when I was racing Amy in Sky Sanctuary, in the beginning I hit here once and she never moved from her position. When I won she was still in the beginning of the level
Wow, ya'll guys was right about the final boss. Not only does it suck but it's feel really unfinished. Both Super Sonics control like tanks making it hard to collect rings and only thing you can really do is to hold the boost button and hope something happens.Oh you can press the jump button to make the other Super Sonic fly and break obstacles in you path it's useful-ish? IMO this is one of the sadist final boss fight in a Sonic game. Anyway, great impression video! I wish it was 5 hour.
Y'know, during the hype for this game, I was actually HOPING that it was going to be Eggman after all, I thought it would be the most appropriate for the occasion, since Eggman has been the main bad guy, taking over the minds (temporary) of monsters for 20 years, seemed the most fitting.
Watching some of this video, I'm actually wondering if anyone actually bothered to try to get the Casino Night Pinball stage if they pre-ordered the game or not, the pinball was pretty fun to me at least.
I always assumed classic Sonic was from early Sonic 2 since he has black eyes in super sonic form and it also explains why classic Knux isn't around, Sonic simply hasn't met him yet.
@32:52 Funny thing about this is when I brought Super Sonic into Chemical Plant for lolz. Under water he acted like Super Sonic should. He was jumping twice as high and made the level FUN
In classic speed highway, I got a 3D fucked up camera, that essentially broke the stage, and I had to restart. Overall, I think it had missed opportunities for in-jokes, lack of classic characters (Amy, mighty, fang etc;), lack of story, and lack of polish. I found a lot of impossible-to-redo glitches in the game, but besides those things, I think it is an AWESOME game.
Oh yeah i'm not sure if you guys talked about it but I wondered why both Tails weren't playable characters because Sonic and Tails are the only two that have past selves and I thought it would be fitting for Tails to be made playable. And also Shadow certainly looks like he's playable as i've seen from the rival fight. Maybe saved for DLC? Would be nice of Sega to do.
protip: NEVER restart a stage with the restart button, that locks you out of getting an S rank since it counts you restarting as losing a life, to properly restart and have the ability to S rank, leave the stage completely and go back in.
I remember Red Ring hunting in Modern Rooftop Run & by accident I grabbed a Red Ring & for a second I didn't know it. As of this comment, I'm STILL trying to find all the Red Rings (I just have to find them all in Planet Wisp in both versions).
A neat little nod to what Eggman said with Egg Dragoon...in Unleashed, it was just a prototype. In Generations...it's more powerful and has more features. Yo-ho!
I actually found a way to beat the time eater within 2-4 minutes. Surprisingly enough if you rhythmically press the boost button every second and not get hit. You will actually travel a lot faster and catch up to him a lot quicker. Overall I actually enjoyed the boss due to his original battle concept, epic theme, and the difficultly where controls aren't to blame.
@Oblivion709 I'm still trying to figure out why people think Shadow is "emo", the only game where he remotely acted like it was his own game and he left it behind along with his past.
I don't know, i like all of the stages. They're hard because they require practice. I dont know how long it took me on crisis city, but now i can S rank it without getting hit.same with planet wisp. But thats why i like it so much because its so rewarding to master them. this is my favorite 3D sonic game.
Before Sonic Generations came out I called Classic and Modern Sonic as one person but in this game I refer Modern Sonic as Sonic the Hedgehog and Classic Sonic as Classic Sonic.
If they add DLC (and they probably will), here's what stages I want: Classic Era: Starlight Zone (Sonic 1) Aquatic Ruin (Sonic 2) Quartz Quadrant (Sonic CD) Hydrocity(Sonic 3&K) Dreamcast Era: Lost World (SA1) Metal Harbor (SA2) Egg Fleet (Sonic Heroes) Modern Era: Kingdom Valley (Sonic 06) Holoska (Unleashed) Sweet Mountain (Sonic Colors)
Johnny is wrong when he talks about the 'Time Eater' You can attack as Classic Super Sonic, and you can control Classic Super Sonic, and he does boost. You can't see it because it only works in the 2D sections. But I tried it and you can. I was Classic Super Sonic damaging the core and he was using boost after.
And it's not that I'm saying physics isn't an issue with some Sonic titles, it's just that people obsessing over it to the point where they are running test on the game is just ridiculous. Sure Modern Sonic may feeling stiff at times and Classic Sonic's spin dash may not be exactly the way it was in the Genesis games, but that doesn't mean the game is unplayable. You just have to adapt to it.
@sonicdahedgehogfan1 I agree with all of your choices, with two exceptions; I love Star Light, but we already have a city at night. I'd go with Spring Yard. Generations deserves a "bouncy" level. Similarly, Seaside Hill is practically Aquatic Ruin 2.0. Considering we already have Chemical Plant and Casino Night, Mystic Cave seems like a nice, memorable pick. I will say, Sweet Mountain is a fantastic choice! Asteroid Coaster or Aquarium Park would also be great, though.
God this was 10 years ago!
2 years later Sonic X Shadow Generations!
@@Solaris_Paradox Lewis? Is it really you?
@@BH-98 Nope
@@Solaris_Paradox oh
That awkward moment when Somecallmejohnny and BrainScratchComms impressions videos are the only reviews I can trust...
This brings up an interesting question. The whole "Classic Sonic" thing seems to have been well recieved, so...where do you think the series goes from here? Do you think "Classic Sonic" will have his own series of games?
I'm from 10 years into the future. Sega started using Classic Sonic so much that a lot of fans actually hate him now.
I like how Crisis City teased you, thinking it was the end of the level, only to find out that you had to go through another fourth of the level to really complete it. Personally, I found this pretty funny.

Listening again can't believe how long it was since this came sonic generations came out!
1:22:12 Then Sonic X Shadow Generations was made in 2024
13 years later
im not sure if Johnny means gameplay wise or actual character, but in the super sonic fight you do actually switch characters when pressing Y or triangle or whatever
one thing though, How are both Eggman's gonna escape? coz otherwise it would screw up the classic timeline
"Up and down and all around!"
I loved Speed Highway Modern and Chemical Plant Modern so much!
This game was easy, but it was so damn fun! Me personally, I think it was worth all $50.
@MrSonicfan01 ...Okay, but where did Classic Tails come from then?
The Egg Dragoon kinda looks like Unleashed's with that Egg dragon thing from 06's wings, and Egg Viper's tail. It's really cool... and all the bosses sorta feel like they could be from their "eras" too. That was a nice touch.

thank you for telling me about the trophy room... you just made me and alot of my friends VERY happy XD
I'll watch this once ive beat the game, completed all the missions, and gotten every red ring. Be back tomorrow.
HEY, I liked the final boss! As I was able to figure it out!
Modern Sonic can hurt the boss while he's inside of the stream. Classic can hurt him when he's outside. Second Super Sonic can be used as a missle to destroy flying debris. Simple? Simple.
and also that is classic sonic in 2D and he can use the boost (for some reason) BECAUSE when you go to hit him it zooms in and you can see its clasic
@Esupanitix Y'know, now that you mention it, I really want to see Regal Ruin or Reactive Factory remade.
After not really planning on buying generations...and then watching a 2 in a half hour video on it, im buying this frakking game!
Who's here because of the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations?
You and me both.
I never noticed the pixellation in the opening cutscene.
I think the elemental shields mechanic should be you hit a monitor that has the shield and then you have it and can activate it when you chose or hit another monitor to later get a different shield.
37:30 Loved that bit when they talked over the Final Boss. 'Oh, it looks like Homing Shot! Careful Sonic!'.

You guys should have a podcast. Seriously. It'd be great.
@MrSonicfan01 But, the adventure start in Sonic 1 as Sonic starts in Green Hill. He goes to Sky Sanctuary, so he would have met Knuckles.

@VerendumProductions:
They talk about rival battles and... actually, I'm not that far into the video.
Wow, ya'll guys was right about the final boss. what im made of with the metal sonic fight. EPIC! fits perfectly.
Y'know, during the hype for this game, I was actually HOPING that it was going to be Eggman after all, I thought it would be the most appropriate for the occasion, since Eggman has been the main bad guy, taking over the minds (temporary) of monsters for 20 years, seemed the most fitting.
This is not the 5 hours I was promised... I'll have to listen later, it comes out on steam in about 5-6 hours from now.
Watching some of this video, I'm actually wondering if anyone actually bothered to try to get the Casino Night Pinball stage if they pre-ordered the game or not, the pinball was pretty fun to me at least.
@TheUltimateBeing01 Im not complaining about anything with Generations except lack of levels that it
I've managed to grow used to Planet Wisp, but I still don't play it as often as the other stages.
The Super Sonic skill is like the Breakthrough capsule in the Budokai trilogy.
The appeal was that it was more instantaneous and reliable than the spin dash. But now that the spin dash is more reliable it seems unnecessary.
I didn't know about the chomper in Seaside Hill until one of the side missions. I managed to survive it though.
BTW. The USA Remix Version of Stardust Speedway isn't the same without the woman saying Stardust Speedway in the song.
@TheUltimateBeing01 Wow really? And I thought is was odd that IGN gave this game a POSITIVE score. What did game informer say about Generations?
I always assumed classic Sonic was from early Sonic 2 since he has black eyes in super sonic form and it also explains why classic Knux isn't around, Sonic simply hasn't met him yet.
Has anyone looked at Classic Sonic's impatient animations? It's a mix of Sonic 1, 2, 3 and 3D Blast!
@32:52
Funny thing about this is when I brought Super Sonic into Chemical Plant for lolz.
Under water he acted like Super Sonic should. He was jumping twice as high and made the level FUN
@MrSonicfan01 Yeah... well I don't think so, but that's my opinion because like I said, it started in Green Hill Zone where Sonic 1 started.
@gamefreakDX Like I suggested earlier Classic Sonic is likely to be from early Sonic 2, so he should've met met Tail by then.
I have the Kinect Xbox and the openeing cutscene I don't see any pixalation
In classic speed highway, I got a 3D fucked up camera, that essentially broke the stage, and I had to restart. I can't wait till Sonic Generations comes out in the UK.
I feel bad for Japan because they have to wait until the 1st of December to get it.
Multiplayer DLC really would be nice, after all, multiplayer was a big part of the Sonic series no matter how you look at it.
no the super peelout is classic move from sonic cd
protip: NEVER restart a stage with the restart button, that locks you out of getting an S rank since it counts you restarting as losing a life, to properly restart and have the ability to S rank, leave the stage completely and go back in.
Zyad48 that's not true
I remember Red Ring hunting in Modern Rooftop Run & by accident I grabbed a Red Ring & for a second I didn't know it.
As of this comment, I'm STILL trying to find all the Red Rings (I just have to find them all in Planet Wisp in both versions).
what's that music at 2:11:00 ? its really bugging me :p
@KendoSF13 On which console?
A neat little nod to what Eggman said with Egg Dragoon...in Unleashed, it was just a prototype. In Generations...it's more powerful and has more features. Yo-ho!
@RDV333
In two days, I would've expected 2 parts for 5 hours each!
Cue the comments for an LP even though the game just came out!
You guys named this video the same as the last one. I was wondering why it was coming up in related videos.
Huh, I never had a problem with the two ziplines. never missed them as I can remember. I really love that level :)
Only two and a half hours? huh, considering you guys talked about green hill zone for an hour before, that's short. lol
I'm just going to add this Silver & Blaze know each other from the DS version of Sonic Colors so its not really out of place.
@jet4212006
We've seen just as many "green areas" as we have factories, if not more.
So Johnny, how long until you review Generations?
Damn it, BSC. Why no opinion on sound? (music, sound effects, voice acting etc).
I agree with that one red ring in City Escape. I can't count how many times it took me to get it.
Having classic sonic talk would be a perfect time to bring Jaleel White.
@Oblivion709 I'm still trying to figure out why people think Shadow is "emo", the only game where he remotely acted like it was his own game and he left it behind along with his past.
I'm with Solaris on that City Escape red ring. Got it in 1-2 tries, so I didn't have that "awful" experience with that red ring.
Am I the only one who noticed silver was at sonics birthday party at the end of the game. HE IS NOW IN THE PRESENT
I don't know, i like all of the stages. They're hard because they require practice. I dont know how long it took me on crisis city, but now i can S rank it without getting hit.same with planet wisp. But thats why i like it so much because its so rewarding to master them. this is my favorite 3D sonic game.
@GamersChannel88 A download service similar to WiiWare but for PC stuff.
The only reason the slow time down move exists is so that Time Eater could charge up another freaking homing attack.... why?!
I know this may sound weird, but I thought it would have been hilarious if Mario turned out to be the villain.
@darkgomugomu Even better, when you play as Classic Sonic, that tornado's car-*shot*
@ExandShadow you go, ted! I wish i could get it, but alas! Christmas, maybe.
Before Sonic Generations came out I called Classic and Modern Sonic as one person but in this game I refer Modern Sonic as Sonic the Hedgehog and Classic Sonic as Classic Sonic.
If they add DLC (and they probably will), here's what stages I want:
Classic Era:
Starlight Zone (Sonic 1)
Aquatic Ruin (Sonic 2)
Quartz Quadrant (Sonic CD)
Hydrocity(Sonic 3&K)
Dreamcast Era:
Lost World (SA1)
Metal Harbor (SA2)
Egg Fleet (Sonic Heroes)
Modern Era:
Kingdom Valley (Sonic 06)
Holoska (Unleashed)
Sweet Mountain (Sonic Colors)
Classic Sonic can attack the Time Eater.
It's rather hard, but if you can avoid everything, you should be able to close in and attack him.
in classic city escape has a fang the sniper easter egg
loll at solaris saying he has trouble with something and then everybody else saying they never had a problem with it....lol
Also, I wouldn't mind if other characters other than Sonic are playable.
That final boss... I CAN'T DO IT!!!
I love the achievement for defeating Silver though: Silver got Served
Shoulda been: Modern gets a wisp from the wii version, Classic gets a wisp from DS version
(Sees this video in my Sub-box)
my reaction: holy...fucking.....spin-balls!! :D
I love these SUPER long impressions videos!!
Fighting Metal Sonic with Sonic Boom as the music background
The opening cut scene looks fine on my copy.
Johnny is wrong when he talks about the 'Time Eater'
