I show you a few ways to add an external user to Microsoft Teams so that you can collaborate via chat to allow for more efficient business communication.
The first part appears you are in Outlook. You said "Warren Whitmore" has Teams because when you add him, it has the chat box, but when you went to Teams and added his email, it says he does NOT have Teams. So is the 2nd option better?
I get an error on chatting with external user : 504/8003 or something like that, even though the user was found and added… I can’t chat… and he doesn’t receive any invitation either… do you know why ? Everything is open in the admin panel
Hi. I would like to chat one-one with a Gmail user who is not part of my organisation and who doesn't have a Teams account. When they receive the chat invite via email, do they have to set up a Teams account first?
She skipped that part (duh). Yes you can invite them. They get an email to create and link a Microsoft account to gmail. Then you will see them in the directory so you can add them. Not a great user experience for the external user (2-3 emails) but it works.

Like Soumesh Khuntia said you cant add external users through search. Your headline said adding external users to Teams.
