Sony DSC HX5v vs Panasonic DMC TZ10 ZS7 Video Test Part 8
Piedmont Park - Tom's Power Kite [720P].
Production Notes:
Panasonic TZ10 (1280x720 Quicktime MOV Format); and
Sony HX5v (1280x720 H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Format):
1. Daytime performance is similar, but slightly different.
2. Pay attention to color/contrast handling of each camera.
3. Also look at each camera's image stabilization steadiness.
4. Both have about the same trouble with wind noise.
5. When both clips are processed individually,
you'll be able to listen to thier audio tracks separately.
6. Each audio track is actually playing at the same time,
so their may be some echoing throughout.

I went for the Sony, Both cameras are really good. but Sony have the extra point. The LCD is really nice, better than Lumix, their manu is more simpler to navigate. Quality of the videos are excellent, It is hard to compare on youtube anyway. But my workflow is via imovie and with one click you have all color corrected. Thank you Mike for your work (Y)

@kuro432 Thanks. Be sure to upload some videos so we can check out your work!! I already have an old Pana TZ1 (yes a "1") and I have Pro SLR and Video cameras. so the need right now isn't great for me. So I'll wait a few months for something else. Perhaps, a Pana with 1440x1080 HD.

I went for the Zs7 .... I shot the sony in snow and the Panasonic WB is exceptional and better, when using the Vivid mode colors on the Pana jump at you ...... When taking images on Natural mode they are equivalent in sharpness and colors to my Canon 1Ds MK 4 ..... It's hard to believe that a $400.00 camera can take images that compete with a $7,500 camera .....

This a a great idea to make a legitimate comparison of these 2 popular cameras - HOWEVER, unless both were set on complete default auto while videoing, then without knowing the settings you selected for each camera a comparison such as this is quite worthless and can easily mislead anyone who views it. Were both cameras on full auto while videoing?

@apfeltipp Perhaps its a certain times when the Panasonic has better IS, maybe during the walking movement there is different IS going on but on standing still, and just trying to focus on one point, I felt the Pana's Power IS seemed to have and edge. I'd like to do a specific IS test when I can get both cameras again.

@brian8962 I'm wondering if it really makes any difference, in fact, it should "help" the Sony camera by rendering its 1440x1080 footage to the Panasonic's max of 1280x720. I wish both cameras had equal resolutions, but I do think sony's MP4 footage doe sin fact have a 1280x720 mode in the 7 and 8 parts.

the reds in the sony are blooming a bit, can this only be fixed w/ post production software or is their an option in the camera?
possibly the green looks a little hot as well?

If you're going to compare the best video from each camera you need to be comparing the HX5's 1920x1080 footage with to TZ10's lower 720p .. thats the true comparison. Its like shooting in 640x480 and comparing it to a cellphone !

Thats matter of opinion, how u change the color, brightness and all other things in the both camera settings to be a better picture or video record ... this Comparison is not crucial ... I have see another records from Sony HX5 here on youtube and that was so much better quality like this here !!!
