- Full review at www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Pan... . A 15 minute 1080p HD tour around the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 / ZS7, the company's latest pocket super-zoom and successor to the best-selling TZ7 / ZS3. The video demonstrates the 12x zoom, optical stabilisation, 720p HD movies, face recognition and brand new built-in GPS facilities! This video is however only one small part of my full review which you'll find at cameralabs . com. This includes comparisons against the Sony HX5 and Canon SX210 IS, sample images and video clips, along with the best prices for all models. So to find out more, click the link at the start of this text or visit cameralabs . com. If you have any questions regarding this review, feel free to post on the Cameralabs forum!

@311Vision It doesn't do 1080p. Please see the video section in my review at cameralabs . com to find out all the details and settings.
@matt10cool I'm sorry, I can't remember, you'd need to check the manual! PS - if you shopped through the cameralabs . com link to Amazon, thanks for your support!
@MsChorby Sadly no camera will cut through the smoke. If you want greaty low light quality you'll need a DSLR, but if you're happy with the low light quality on your current camera, then the TZ10 / ZS7 will certainly let you get much closer to the action with its powerful lens. PS - if you'd like to support me, please shop (for anything!) at the partner stores page at cameralabs . com!
@mittsdad Hi pete, as you've hopefully dfiscovered by now, these videos are just brief tasters. The main info is in my written reviews at cameralabs . com - there's a direct link to the review under the video.
@muzzmackay yoiu're welcome! Don't forget to check my full reviews at cameralabs . com - this is juts the tip of the iceberg!
Just to echo some of the other comments, this has to be the most detailed and informative review I have ever seen. Excellent job! I will certainly have to check out your website and see your other reviews. Thanks very much!
Yes that's true! I bought it on the Amazon website. I discovered your channel after I bought it. I was looking for a review of it because no one else has done an actual video review of it. It's still being shipped.
@vwlover94 You're very welcome! Don't forget to check the full reviews which go with them at cameralabs . com!
Thanks for the review, Gordon. It's fun to see a tour from the locations you use in your reviews. New Zealand sure is a pretty place!
Hi Gordon,
many thanks for your excellent reviews here. Always a pleasure to watch your videos. As a result me and a colleague from work here in Germany bought this camera and we are very pleased with it. Actually the same colleague visited Queenstown in March 2008 without bringing any camera along and I turned green with envy because I could not come along either....
Keep up the good work.
@dubio9 As I said in the video, I do all the image quality comparisons in my review at cameralabs . com - this video is just one small part of my whole review. Please pay attention next time.
Gordon, I've purchased 3 cameras based on your reviews. You are allways spot on ,and for me you give the best video and text reviews of many I've consulted.
Kudos and many thanks .Brilliant Job.

@AndySan Go to the verdict page of my TZ10 / ZS7 review via the link below the video, I've compared them in detail there!
@emireitor Well I can't speak for the Nikon yet, but for the others, please see my reviews of them at cameralabs . com!
@aprilherriott Please see my review at cameralabs . com for comments on the sound. I don't think it will be suitable for your needs. If you want decent concert sound, buy the CD!
Gordon, you do great camera reviews. I look forward to them. Keep up the good work buddy.
@kwakiutlthunderbird Check out the results pages of my TZ10 and SX210 IS reviews at cameralabs . com - you can compare the quality there.
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words!
TQ Gordon, I am fully in appreciation mode resulting from yr great & concise 15mins-plus review . I may soon consider this model, as upgrade on my Lumix FX 07 which I 1st started my Lumix experience in 2007. I have since this Spring, bought the Samsung WB650 with GPS but discovered, no HD value and VERY upsetting and poor support on their geo-tagging as well as uploads for the gps download software.
This review caption did indeed brought great memories we spent in NZ (north & south islands).
Very good review. Top notch. You're comments in the video are on point. You're great at reviewing. Made me understand the TZ10 more for sure.
i removed the infrared filter on mine. what settings do you recommend to take pictures of planes and flying objects
Bought the TZ10 today, and i found this vid excellent, really helped me understand the functionality of the camera, Thanks.
@Bondgirl2312 The time, date and co-ordinates are stored in the file and can be read by certain programs. You won't get the placenames which are shown on the camera, but you will be able to plot the position on a map.
For a camera novice like me, what's the best setting for international travel? Do I have to set something manually for Landscape? I also am weary of file size. Thanks!
Hi Gordon,
thank you very much for this wonderful review. Because of this I bought the TZ10/ZS7 and I'm very happy with it. I tried the Samsung WB650 before, but was very (!) happy, that I could return it, because I was really disappointed with the camera and it's pictures.
Once again, thank you very much. Keep on the good work!
@matt10cool Yep, use exposure compensation. See my tutorial at dslrtips . com - and check the HDR tutorial at cameralabs . com to see how to combine them on your computer.
This is the best review there is for this camera!!! I was trying to buy a cam for my sister, and my research brought me to the Canon 210 and this, and i had already planned to buy this one due to its superior image and vid quality. After this review, i for sure know i've made the right decision!!! Thanx :)
Hello! I have a question - when I go to upload my videos, the files themselves do not show up. Is that because I have the wrong class memory card? Is there a way to get around this? Please answer - I've looked in several places, but many of the answers provided are basic uploading information for all cameras; not dealing with the issue at all. Let me know!
I recorded a video in Motion JPEG, HD. 4:17 minutes took up 982 mb, is that normal? Also when I play the movie right off my memory card on my PC, it's decent quality but it def. does not look 1080p or 720p, the writing on the pictures on my wall is kinda blurry from 7 feet away, also I am using two different cards, both are doing this, Scandisk Ultra II HD, and a PNY-HD Optima, both SDHC cards. Do I need to install the software it came with to get the 1080p quality?
What type of file do you convert the AVCHD video files into? I have been converting mine using iSkysoft video converting and converting the file into .mp4 HD files but am unimpressed with most of the videos looking pixelated. Does anyone know what the ideal file format would be to get the best quality videos? Thanks this has been bothering me since I purchased the camera.
@KevinKevKev2 hello, how is the audio quality on a concert? i want to but this camera ro record one? do you like the videos? isnt the video lagging or something please reply asap,
@boalohanuiloa1 do you like the video on the camera? i want one to to record a concert>? would you recommend it to me ? or is the audio to low or lagging
can you help me...from the picture quality side which one would you suggest, Lumix TZ10, TZ7, or canon S90 ?? thanks
Just on pictures in low light , which of the 3 (Sony, Panasonic and Canon) cameras mentioned in this review offers the best possible quality? looking at some of the ZS7 samples, there's a lot noise when I full screen them up close for examination.
@Thepremiumagent how are the low light photos? heard this camera was good in everything except low light. is it at least better than canon sd780is?
Ive recently bought this camera , can you give me example of what setting to use for best results videoing in low light ,indoors? is it true that any movies done on AVCHDlite cannot be played on DVD players? Appreciate any help with these questions.
@UP87 What's hard to notice? Or am I going to regret asking that?
Hi! I am a bit confused now! I was looking for a superzoom camera, and had my eye on the sx20is, the fz38, and the fuji hs10, all superzoom camera's!! Then I bumped in to these cameras, the tz10 and the sx210is, is there a big difference between those cameras??? In picture quality?
@Cosmos317 Have a look at the high ISO Noise results pages on either review at cameralabs . com...
@NueRama Please see my TZ10 / ZS7 and Sony HX5 reviews at cameralabs . com - I've compared them in great detail there.
Would you guys recommend this camera over the S95 or not? i want something with allot of manual controlls when i want to take more 'arty' pictures so i need something with the choice to have everything controlled but i still want it to be able to have all the auto functions that a camera should have
Brilliant Review as usual, You should do Behind the Scenes of your reviews and maybe do a bit of vlogging too.
Hmm im deciding between tz10 and the new ixus hs 1000... which can take better photos under concert settings or nite?
I want a digital camera for concerts, so this one is the best? or there is another model of panasonic or another brand that can beat this one?
2 questions. First of all, if you use the GPS feature on a picture and then upload it to the computer, what happens? Can you still see the location and if so, can you get rid of it later if you want? Second of all, what's the best way to get at least 50 mins. of video? Should I buy a really really big memory card? Thanks.
@cameralabs hi, I'm going to see a band in concert may 10th. what would be a good camera to use. there lots of flashing lights at times and low light at other times.
I got a question: What is the best camera for filming in small rooms?
Like when you want to get everything on the picture at close ranges...like a lot of people in a small room, etc
I dont care about price or the size of the camera
how do you take panoramic photo's on this camera?
Do you know were i can buy this camera in the North of Europe?
what camcorder video-camera are you using to film the intro, with you talking?
@Sarah1627 It's in Queenstown New Zealand - er, didn't I mention that in the review?
excellent detailed review. one thing I wish would be included in more reviews was how the cameras microphone records in situations with loud music. most audio recording becomes distorted at high volume, but some have limiters which normalize the levels. anyhow, thanks!
which one would u recommend more this one or the canon SX210 IS or the Sony HX5.
which one is faster ??! I mean in sports mode ??!
appreciate it if u would help
@aprilherriott so you wouldnt recommend the camera for gigs?
which memory cards does it take, i couldnt hear you properly on the review?
thanks :)
gordon, you without a doubt live in one of the most beautiful places in the world! I'm definately putting Queenstown NZ in my list of places to visit when I get the money up!.
Very thorough and detailed review - thanks to all at cameralabs for the effort. I was very curious about the location of the sample video shot so I googled up the Earnslaw - great website on the classic steamer. Definitely makes me want to go and visit New Zealand (though it is surprisingly expensive to get there from my home in Indonesia.
What do you think about TZ10 vs HX5? And also I am thinking about FZ38, but if it has the same quality as these compacts it is pointless to buy bigger camera isn't it?
Great review thanks! This is how all camera reviews should be!
Mr. Lain,
would you please comment on how good the manual controls are. i know it will never be as good as a D-SLR.in your opinion, is it a sales gimmick or actually usable?
the features i look for are:
- good image quality
- min12x zoom
-good close-up photography
-manual controls
-compact size
because the F-stops have a REALLY small range, are the manual controls still worth it? can i play with DOF, blur motion without under/over exposing? also considering it lacks manual focus :-S
Can you explain why there is a limit on time you can film? I've never heard of it. :S
@cameralabs Thanks Gordon. Well HX5 biggest con is the lack of manual aperture setting and thats the reason I won't buy it, but I am quite curious also about differences between TZ10 and Samsung WB650. I see you don't have any Samsung reviews on cameralabs. Did you try WB650? What do you think about it? thanks.
Can someone advise which I should go for between this and the Canon Powershot SX10?
Thanks
Can you turn off the stabilisation or fix the jurkiness somehow? I'm trying to justify upgrading from my TZ7 but its obvious as you've stated that the TZ10 has an issue with stabilisation when zooming on video mode.
Superb reviews; informative, expertly presented, well illustrated...and very useful.
Another fantastic review. I am currently looking for a new camera and I cannot decide between the Canon SX210 IS or the Panasonic TZ8.
Which is your opinion is the better camera for still shooting (video recording is far from a priority for me, hence the TZ8 over the TZ10)?
should i buy this or the canon powershot sx210is?
what camera did you use to film this
that boat ride looks sick
@ilovecars1996 if you clicked through to amazon from the links on my site, thanks!
@philipsudron I did my TZ20 review about 9 months ago at cameralabs . com! All my reviews are there, not here!
Thanks a lot for this review. Are your going to do the same with the Sony WX5 ?
The TZ10 video samples on the web seem much better than the WX5 ones... :-/
@4funky1 I live in NZ, but I'm from the UK. The videos are based around Queenstown...
Excellent comprehensive review as always. I have two questions: I read in another review that TZ10's image quality is very ordinary and with GPS on (which is automatically even when the camera is switched off) is very low. What is your opinion? (or rather anyone who have used this camera).
I always love your reviews! IT's the second camera that I buy watching your suggestions.. Thank you..
Great review! Will you be reviewing the Samsung WB650 soon as can't decide whether to get that or the TZ10.
I would have liked to see some macro settings and close-up shots
Hey! Nice review, what settings gives the sharpest video quality?
hey, does anyone know if/when there will be a next generation of the panasonic lumix dmc tz10???
thank you very much!!!
Hello. I am sorry if this question has been asked, but you see... I bough this camera for a mix of things, but one of the main important reason was so I could record some clips.
The problem is though, just 3 minutes of clips is taking 260mb. I want to send these clips to friend, but being that big, there is no way I can send them without it taking a long time.
How can I get it to not take up so much mb but instead be smaller so I can send it to friends and family?
Thank you!
Does anyone know about the battery life from experience? is it good? thx.
This is a fantastic review. What are your views on the Samsung WB650 over the TZ10? The specs are quite close…
Hi :)
the main reason Id be thinking about this camera or the TZ7
would be for gigs, Ive just seen Jack Johnson and out of the 400 photos I took I only kept 124, because the image quality was so poor AND we were at the front, so I can't make any excuses for my camera.
How does the TZ7 and TZ10 perfom sound wise, Bearing in mind screaming crowds, and general loudness, does that affect the camera because the crackling I get is terrible, and also picture quality for movement (guitars etc) xx
@ilovecars1996 If you've just bought it, why don't you do a review of it! PS - did you buy it through the Amazon link at cameralabs . com?
Thanks for the review. Is there a difference between the one which carries the Panasonic name under the flash ( less price on Amazon.com) or the one where it is written LUMIX instead of panasonic? What do you think about Amazon price ( 290$ !!! ) ? thanks for the clear talk particularly for us as nonnative English speakers. TA from Canada
Thanks for a very helpful and informative review; covers the things you really need to know.
hi do you have a review on nikon coolpix p100
as always, awesome review...in your personal opinion, would this be the best of all 4 competitor models?
I got this camera today and was really excited cuz I've been researching youtube on the quality of the video and focus. I did not do an outdoor landscape test yet (will tomorrow) but I was using indoors in my house and the focus was all over the place?! the focus didn't hold when I zoomed and picture wasn't as sharp? I hope it's not defective :(
Very informative review! I like it. :)
Have you got an indication on how long you can actually take videos with one battery charge? Because the best quality would be no good to me if I had to change the battery every 15 minutes while filming. Thanks. =)
im getting this and you made me want it even more thanks gordon love the reviews.
Question who do you think makes the best cameras all around
Thanks for the great review. I'm a little surprised that so much of the video is about the GPS and only a few seconds on the manual controls. I've been shooting for years and a GPS is the last thing I'd ever want or need in a camera. I always know where I am. However, manual controls on a pocket camera are quite revolutionary and this is of great importance. I guess I'll go to your site to learn more about that. Thanks again though.
pete
Hey @cameralabs. I love your reviews and visit your site often. My question is this:, while I'm really interested in the ZS7, I can't help but wish it used AA batteries. Is there a similar camera you can suggest that takes AA's? The SX210 I believe is rechargeable as well, and the Sony is missing A and S modes. The only other idea I have is the SX120IS, but it seems that camera is one notch below these, any suggestions? Thank you so much!!
Hi Gordon
thank U for review. Do you know if it is possible to live view video mode via hdmi cable on external monitor?
I made this video 11 years ago, so I can't remember! All cameras should give a live output over HDMI but some let you remove the graphics while others don't.
why say that tz10/Zs7?? Pliz help me, i want buy this camera but tz10 not sell anymore, and is the same Function and specification of zs7??? Thanks a lot for ur reviews helps so much
I am looking to buy the TZ10, nice review thanks.
@Evilscotsman1238 The tallest are 2340m - the range is called 'The Remarkables'.
Is it my impression or the sound recording of this camera is way inferior than the FZ38's? I hear noise, almost static..that was pretty weird
I wish he'd say which, out of the 4 at the end of the video, was best all-round.
Excellent review!
Is the sound really that great on this camera though? It sounds a bit hissy to my ears which is the big problem with my current TZ5.
I'm holding back in buying a TZ10 because of this!
