Ultra tall!! Most definitely appreciate this video as I’ve been trying to decide whether or not to get one! Your points were very helpful, especially regarding the architecture work flow. I work in the same field so those key points were very important. Thanks!
I divide this monitor in half and use it for watching videos on the top and typing with a notepad on the bottom, very satisfied. It's good because it doesn't require a lot of eye movement.
Remember the resolution works a little different on MacOS than it does on windows. So when you set a lower scaled resolution it is still displaying the same resolution, it's just scaling it differently to make the UI more readable. Of course if you have an Apple Display you don't need to worry about this as it's all done for you.
From my experience working with a dual monitor setup, I ended up with something very similar. I would have AutoCAD drawing on the bottom monitor, and on the top I would have my layers, xref's, sheet set manager and properties. I would also sometimes split the upper monitor so I had outlook or an excel file open with out specs so I could design, draft and write specs as I needed to add them.
Thanks for the detailed review. The section that really got my attention was the part about having to move the monitor up or down depending on which portion of the monitor you are viewing for an extended period of time. I've always suspected that because of the vertical view of this monitor and the split in the middle, this pretty much "breaks" the golden rule of body/sitting ergonomics. Like you said, looking down or up for an extended period of time just isn't healthy so I definitely would need to account for this and whether or not I'd be comfortable with having to constantly move the monitor up and down.
Hey John! Thanks for sharing your detailed experience with the LG Dual Up monitor. Your insights are really helpful for anyone considering this display. I appreciate how you covered various use cases and your honesty about its suitability for your specific setup. It's great to know about the ergo stand, window management apps, and the built-in KVM switch - those are definitely useful features. I'm curious, though, you mentioned that you plan to keep the monitor but not for this setup. Can you share more about how you intend to use it in the future? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. Overall, your video was informative and well-presented. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your future content! 👍
i stumbled upon this video whilst researching this monitor, and i hope in the last 2 years you have noticed you can customize the side bars and menus in your architecture drawing software, meaning you could have different menus, bars, views, etc open in those empty spaces
In terms of the height of the monitor, surely you should keep it so that bottom part of the monitor is at eye height, like it should be. Then you're just looking up at the top monitor for reference, as it is just mimicking a dual stacked setup.. still not ideal, but I certainly think it's the best way to use it.
@@mazz777 well I'm pretty budget conscious. The Dell S2722QC is on special every few months (sometimes 35% off). I'd probably get one of those.... they're very good for the price. I've done a bit of research and they seem like they can't be beat in terms of value. Definitely don't buy it full price though.
@@JonImperial In my point of view, the right dimension of this screen is not a 27,6" one. Yes, it is but if you compare the surface of a true 16:9 27" to a true 16:9 27,6", your gain is only 4,5%. But actually, the surface up with this screen is about 21% ! (comparing to a regular 27" 16:9). If you do some cut & paste and force the surface to be a 16:9 ratio, these surface is equivalent to a 29,75" 16:9 monitor. Second point, have you tried to use in landscape orientation (18:16 instead of 16:18).
It looks like a great option for work and the variety of ways you can organize your content make it a great alternative to running two wide monitors vertically stacked. Like you showed, customizing dock location may be useful. Even accounting for the integrated clamp stand I think this monitor is overpriced by at least $100. Even if you want to treat it like it's absorbing two monitors into one streamlined option, the point on price still stands, but it really is a tidy way to get a unique bit of visual real estate. A serious gamer will opt for something that does at least 120hz refresh, but it's a capable option for most types of games and will serve the needs of most for vintage console and computer emulation. Will also be good for server and CCTV use or splitting duties between different forms of information monitoring. Would not be a home theater choice.
I plan on getting this. Fits well in my space. I have a L shaped desk the long portion fits my ultra wide for personal. The shorter side is for work where I 27inch monitor. I plan on fitting this in the corner between the two. Will be valuable as I can never have enough screens for work between email, teams, atlassian.
@@JonImperial Thanks Jon! Very happy with light bar. Have you figured out how to connect to the monitor directly for power instead of using the laptop?
When I first saw this, my flinch reactions was WHY !! After like 5 mins, I began to see the use case for this. If I could afford it, I'd get one myself.
I'm getting this for a second programming monitor and general PDF viewing. I would not use this as a solo monitor. For video editing it might be a nice second monitor but seems most people like the wide timeline views so not sure this monitor will please many video editors. As for photo editing, if you don't care about color accuracy it can do the job but most serious users will want monitors that are optimized for that type of work.
Very nice review, as someone that's brainstorming about his new workspace I'm definitely adding some of your thoughts about the monitor to my "pros vs cons" list about! (ultrataaall)
thank you for the excellent and honest and detailed review. One qn though: have you considered rotating the monitor if you need to for a landscape 2880x2560 setup?
I did, but then doing any kind of split screen is kind of pointless FOR ME. At that point, I’d rather use my 34” UW. I really love the DualUp though! It really boiled down to preference for me. Mostly in terms of design tbh.
Thanks for the review Jon! How long does it take for the KVM to switch input? Does it seems seamless or is there a few long seconds of lag? Same question for the picture by picture mode. Does it take time for the chosen settings to apply?
Sorry for the delayed response. I don't have it setup right now as I am testing another setup. I'll test it out again soon and get back to you. From what I remember, there was a delay BUT it's kind of expected.
Love your videos, whats that light over the monitor name (brand/model), i m looking for one like that, thanx in advance and keep up posting great content!
Question, when doing architecture work why didn’t you just rotate the monitor? I would expect it to be very easy compared to having two monitors? I am thinking to get one of these for doing CAD and programming. My thought is I would just rotate the display for the type of work I am doing at that moment. Thank you.
That would work if you want a “single monitor” setup equivalent. At that point, I’d rather have it on portrait so I can have multiple window. Just my preference.
Based on video appearance, I feel like these would be better if they were bigger, at least 32 inches if not 35-40 inches. Also, this is so close to vertical 5:4 that we might as well bring it, 4:3 AND 16:10 back properly. If you divide vert 5:4 in half, you get two 16:10, and if you divide vert 4:3 in half, you get two 3:2. Also if you do this dual-up in 2/3 and 1/3 split, you get a big 4:3 section and a small 2.67:1 section, which you could then split screen two small 4:3 corners.
Hey Jon - How are you navigating the screen splits like that on mac? Very curious. It seems like that feature allows continuity and the ability to maximize the screen!
@Jon Imperial, what light bar would you use for a triple monitor setup? I think I want a bar on each of the monitors, but I can't find any 3 in 1 controls. It would be nice to control all 3 bars via a single point.
I actually have no idea. Tbh, I don’t think I would suggest that. Turning on 3 monitor light might create a weird overlap with lights. I think 1 in the middle would be enough. Just my 2 cents. I’m curious how that would look though.
I have an Nvidia setup in which I already have a 38" wide screen with a 1440p in vertical orientation next to it, and also a 4k movie projector on a wall nearby, so that's 3 displays. I also wanted to stack two small 1080p displays on top of each other on the other side of my main 38". This would have put me at 5 displays which would have required additional parts since Nvidia only allows for 4 displays normally. Using this thing instead of the 2 1080p displays is even better since it is just the one display, but with essentially two "small" 1440p monitors stacked on top of each other in functionality which I would even prefer to the 1080p, I was only wanting to get those for the actuall smaller size. But this is about the same size those two would be, so it really is ideal for me.
I went the exact opposite route with a Samsung 49”. Massive desk footprint, but after two months of using it everyday there is no coming back (ai use it for photo editing, video editing, post production, code etc.). This form factor looks PERFECT for After Effects though, when you end up with hundreds of layers and don’t want to remember the shy ones. Or for coding, but coders often use portrait mode on a second screen (80 characters per line is still a thing).
Hi there, I love your sense of color of the video. While watching the video, I have one question. Can you use the pbp mode with one device? For example I own m1pro mbp 16” and can I use the dual setup solely with it?
@@JonImperial Thank you for your confirmation. I am a student and use split view very often. When I am watching lectures, I have four tabs - lecture video recording, microsoft words for note taking, google for searching scholars and search engine for dictionary since I am not native to English. I can do it by changing the windows back and fourth, but I was wandering whether it would be better to just stay on one window. I have used apps like magnets, but it’s just a resizing the app rather than a true split view so when I maximize the video screen, it just overwhelms the whole page. So I was just thinking of making two split views (4 apps on one window) for efficiency.
Thanks a lot for this video! I have a question about what you said: At 3:00 you said the colours weren't as accurate. In another review I saw that there is a DCI-P3 colour mode. Was it with that or without? -ultra tall-
Thanks for the respone! @@JonImperial I saw that the brightness with the dci 3p mode is very low. Will setting the brightness higher make the colour more inaccurate?
great review thanks @2:10 - LG has their own software (lg on screen control) makes snapping windows to pre-defined layouts nice and easy(there is one for the layout you showed at that timestamp) however, the software is broken for monterey 12.4 unfortunately... :(
I want my streaming/editing pc to be compact on my desk with a single, larger 4k120 monitor for my gaming pc. I can always switch inputs when I'm just gaming witha video and music running on the dualup. Will definitely be getting one when I move my pc into my home studio/gameroom somewhere in the next few months 🙃 Btw: I now have a 34" ultrawide and 29" ultrawide stacked atop each other and a small 16:9 screen for my stream pc (a gaming laptop I fixed, so at least that was free 💩) This will definitely help keep my desk tidy 😂
I think I'll get one of these as a secondary monitor to my LG OLED42C2 - they're approximately the same height. I like to have the big screen for the primary task, either it's work or gaming, and the secondary for e-mails, documentation, notes or other apps. Quite expensive, but you do get the flexible stand. I am using Windows.
I honestly did it manually. each monitor might a bit of difference so I cannot simply share it even if I wanted. I suggest getting a proper calibrator. 😊
I did actually. I should've mentioned that in the video. However, it really didn't solve it. on a 50/50 split, it looks like 2 slivers or windows. Also, the the lack of symmetry due to the bezel, annoyed me. 😂 Really good point though!
@@JonImperial True, that wouldnt help much with your use case. Im considering getting one of these because i love the unique dimensions and i think, for me, it would be an ideal setup.
Moving into a new appartment soon and as ive been stuck with 2 mismatching monitors for the last 6 years, i think it may be a good of a time as any to upgrade them!
i'm working on a webtv project and maybe with monitor like this i can have the top area dedicated to webradio related stuff and bottom to webtv. or vice-versa.
Wait, how did you get your windows to snap at 3:30 and 3:43? Do you use an app? I've been trying to figure out how to get that to work, but haven't been able to
He's using application called magnet. Also LG has it's own sodtware called on screen control but since monterey 12.4, its veen broken unfortunately...no idea when they will fix it

I am in the middle of writing my dissertation. I conduct a lot of research through peer reviewed/ scholarly articles and read them through PDF’s. I know this monitor is good for those who work with data. But how to Microsoft Word look on here? How does PDF documents look on here? Please help me
I am currently working on my website. I left my work last year and gone on my own. I really didn't want to use any of my work there. I am "starting from scratch". Soon!
What's the gamut coverage? There's nothing on the Adobe RGB coverage on the LG website, that's a bad sign. Whenever a manufacturer is hiding that it's always because it's low.
@@JonImperial I doubt it's that high. That's Eizo territory. LG is doing a fine job hiding the facts. I'm guessing less than 75% Adobe RGB coverage here. I was thinking digital imaging and portrait photography here cause of the format, but with no Adobe RGB specs in the product sheet this seems like your run of the mill sRGB monitor without the wider gamut support.
@@JonImperial Ok, cause 95% isn't likely. Anyways, if LG don't include the complete spectrum data in the product sheet I'm pretty much sure it's not strong.
The sharpness of this monitor is pretty good at 140 ppi, same as a 4k 32 inch 16:9 monitor. For Mac, you just need to buy the BetterDisplay app to full scale the monitor. Mac OS itself is so shit with scaling .
god, i hate this lightbar at the top of the monitor trend. it's the new tv above the fireplace trend lol. technically terrible idea but everyone does it. the funny thing is, if the light bar had something to physically block the line of sight to the monitor, it could work without affect the imagine on the monitor, but they don't
Not even close to tv on top of fireplace. Lame analogy. It’s either you are using it wrong, or you have used a terrible one. I have owned 3 different ones and they work great. Reduce eyestrain (esp for people working in the dark), lights the desk, etc.
@@JonImperial i'm commenting because the first one I saw was in person. they even had one for their laptop. the desktop had anti-glare coating, and it washed color out at the top of the monitor (fairly subtle, but why spend bank on a nice monitor with good contrast/color only to ruin it by shining light directly onto it? on their laptop with a glass screen, it lit up every fingerprint on the screen. absolutely terrible design. and light doesn't bend (on earth), so this could be solved with a plastic shelf like HID headlights in cars use to block line of sight to the monitor so the light can't physically make it to the screen, and it would have almost no discernible difference to the original design, but i've yet to see one do this
It’s kind of a preference. With an ultrawide you look left and right, with this you look up and down. As I pointed out in the video, when I was using it, I found myself moving the monitor up and down depending on what I’m doing.

Hi, I can confirm that you can do this. But you need two different outputs from the same device
What keyboard shortcut are you using to switch between dual monitors?
Thanks a lot for this video!
I have a question about what you said:
At 3:00 you said the colours weren't as accurate. In another review I saw that there is a DCI-P3 colour mode. Was it with that or without?
-ultra tall-
Without it, it’s not close in my opinion. With it, it’s decent enough.
Thanks for the respone!
@@JonImperial I saw that the brightness with the dci 3p mode is very low.
Will setting the brightness higher make the colour more inaccurate?
ultratall.
Great video. Thanks for your insight and honest review.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🏾
great review thanks @2:10 - LG has their own software (lg on screen control) makes snapping windows to pre-defined layouts nice and easy(there is one for the layout you showed at that timestamp) however, the software is broken for monterey 12.4 unfortunately... :(
What are the actual dimensions of the monitor? Amazon is saying that the height is 33.2 inches tall which doesn't seem right
That’s with the stand. It’s about 18x21 without the stand according to the website.
I want my streaming/editing pc to be compact on my desk with a single, larger 4k120 monitor for my gaming pc.
I can always switch inputs when I'm just gaming witha video and music running on the dualup.
Will definitely be getting one when I move my pc into my home studio/gameroom somewhere in the next few months 🙃
Btw: I now have a 34" ultrawide and 29" ultrawide stacked atop each other and a small 16:9 screen for my stream pc (a gaming laptop I fixed, so at least that was free 💩)
This will definitely help keep my desk tidy 😂
Yes, the Dual Up will be a good option for you!
Sounds like a solid plan! 😁
Great video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good review
Hi Jon, can you share your color settings to match the macbook pro? I have the same problem with color accuracy
I honestly did it manually. each monitor might a bit of difference so I cannot simply share it even if I wanted. I suggest getting a proper calibrator. 😊
dcip-3 at 95% and above. how does he have colour accurate issues? I’m looking for a monitor and for editing
Do you use MicroStation / AutoCAD / Revit?
Still using Autocad.. it works well for my small practice. 😊
@@JonImperial I have a couple of plug-in tools for AutoCAD. I'd like to throw in a free trial of these. I'll send you an email.
Have you tired using it rotated 90 degrees? I feel like thay may address a couple of the issues you mentioned
I did actually. I should've mentioned that in the video. However, it really didn't solve it. on a 50/50 split, it looks like 2 slivers or windows. Also, the the lack of symmetry due to the bezel, annoyed me. 😂
Really good point though!
@@JonImperial Fair enough! Could it not be split vertically?
@@connorbennudriti8065 it can, but it's not any better. Especially when I am trying to get more horizontal space.
What is on the top of you monitor? Is it a cam? If so, which one do you recommend.
It’s a light bar to help with eyestrain. I use my camera as a webcam. 😁
@@JonImperial what lightbar is it?
Ultra-Tall Great video!
Is it possible to pivot the monitor and use it?
You mean turn it landscape? Yes you can!
Awesome & Thanks :)
🙏🏾
Can it be rotated to view the image horizontally? Or is the image always vertical on this monitor?

I like that Philippines artwork behind you. Where can I find it?
It’s from East of Nowhere
i'm working on a webtv project and maybe with monitor like this i can have the top area dedicated to webradio related stuff and bottom to webtv. or vice-versa.
Bro. Coding, photography, videography, architecture… wtf DONT you do? Lol hats off to you 👍🏼
😂😂😂 thanks man.
Do you think a 49 inch ultra wide monitor will be good for Rhino and CAD?
Idk man. I’m testing out the LG 5k2@ 40” UW monitor and it’s already too much for me haha.
Wait, how did you get your windows to snap at 3:30 and 3:43? Do you use an app? I've been trying to figure out how to get that to work, but haven't been able to
He's using application called magnet. Also LG has it's own sodtware called on screen control but since monterey 12.4, its veen broken unfortunately...no idea when they will fix it
@@kc-me6wl use Rectangle instead. works great. i had the same issue with Magnet and BetterSnapTool.
What exactly is the point of the monitor light? I don't see what it does whatsoever. What am i missing lol
Saves your eyes. You need to light your workplace to prevent eye injury.
What's the shortcut key to automatically split the windows just like how you did here 3:27?
You need to have the app "magnet".. then it's ctrl+opt+left/right arrow key.
Nice video! It wouldn't work for you, but for me i would be perfect and I didn't have that idea for my incoming workspace, so thanks for this review!
Thank you! I do like it. I would love for it to be a second monitor in either of my setup. 😁
What's the light you use
it's this one amzn.to/3J90z7d
Okay, I’ve watched numerous of videos on this thing and no one has answered my question yet. I am a college student working on my Doctorates in business administration. I am in the middle of writing my dissertation. I conduct a lot of research through peer reviewed/ scholarly articles and read them through PDF’s. I know this monitor is good for those who work with data. But how to Microsoft Word look on here? How does PDF documents look on here? Please help me
They should look fine. I think you'll like it.
Does anybody work with DAWs like Cubase? I'm wondering how a monitor like this would be with that kind of workflow.
Do you know if MacBook can support 2 sets of dual up monitors?
It should!
“Hey it works” hope you fixed it 😊
I love how you went through the various uses for this monitor, Jon! Super helpful review as always! What a great ultra tall monitor ;) lol
Thanks, Lizz!! 😁
where did you get the wallpaper?
It's a personal photo.
What dock is that?

Where can we see your project portfolio?
I am currently working on my website. I left my work last year and gone on my own. I really didn't want to use any of my work there. I am "starting from scratch". Soon!
What's the gamut coverage? There's nothing on the Adobe RGB coverage on the LG website, that's a bad sign. Whenever a manufacturer is hiding that it's always because it's low.
I think it's 85ish. Not sure though. I'm sure you can find it online.
@@Underhills I meant to say 85ish from what I remember. But again, not sure.
Subbed. We both work in the same field too, so use case is the same i.e building industry
Thank you so much!
Wallpaper please, thanks
where'd u get the wallpaper
personal photo
Does it have vesa 100x100 wall mount capability?
Yes!
god, i hate this lightbar at the top of the monitor trend. it's the new tv above the fireplace trend lol. technically terrible idea but everyone does it. the funny thing is, if the light bar had something to physically block the line of sight to the monitor, it could work without affect the imagine on the monitor, but they don't
Not even close to tv on top of fireplace. Lame analogy. It’s either you are using it wrong, or you have used a terrible one.
I have owned 3 different ones and they work great. Reduce eyestrain (esp for people working in the dark), lights the desk, etc.
@@JonImperial i'm commenting because the first one I saw was in person. they even had one for their laptop. the desktop had anti-glare coating, and it washed color out at the top of the monitor (fairly subtle, but why spend bank on a nice monitor with good contrast/color only to ruin it by shining light directly onto it? on their laptop with a glass screen, it lit up every fingerprint on the screen. absolutely terrible design. and light doesn't bend (on earth), so this could be solved with a plastic shelf like HID headlights in cars use to block line of sight to the monitor so the light can't physically make it to the screen, and it would have almost no discernible difference to the original design, but i've yet to see one do this
@@JonImperial could you list the light you are using right now? the one in the video seems to fit perfectly for this monitor
IS this better than an ultrawide monitor? I thought one has to use a monitor that is eye level? It's not all eye level.
It’s kind of a preference. With an ultrawide you look left and right, with this you look up and down.
As I pointed out in the video, when I was using it, I found myself moving the monitor up and down depending on what I’m doing.
What is that light? On top of the screen
BenQ light bar!
What about gaming?
Display light Brand?
