- The Golden Trail Series season is coming to an end. Fly to trail-running paradise, Madeira Island, for the stage-race final. Manuel Merillas has a good chance of finishing in the top spots, but some of his racing decisions might also take them away. A lot will happen after the first stage.

This is THE trail running show: effort, competition, wild trails, wild performances, injuries... and the human behind the runner. In one word: emotion. Each new episode is even better than the previous 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. And these athletes are by far the best of the world (Allie Mac made medals in the World Championship in Thailand, the same for Maude Mathys or Jon Albon, Manu Merillas won the OCC, Remi beat the record in Manitou Incline... )

Nienke is amazing. He falls off a cliff, grabs onto a tree, and is then confronted by a tiger. Congratulations! The runners of the Golden Trail Series are incredible! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Avid trail runner here, & Nienke Brinkman is just plain tough. Nienke "Tiger Punch" Brinkman, or Nienke "The Tiger/Tigress" Brinkman! There, I said it. That should put some fear into anyone racing against her.

Gladiator 2 should be about Nienke
In my country I think just few mans can run sub 2:30 marathon, So if you calculate that Nienke runs 2:23-24 marathon and she finiedhed 30min after Remi, that means that If I could run just like Nienke, I wouldnt able to keep up with the boys. So rest in peace.
So, why aren't the rules consistent across the entire GTWS? This re: Manuel's pole dq. I mean, did he explain that correctly, because if he did, that doesn't make sense to me. Shouldn't the rules be consistent across all of the races?
These races are not owned by GTS and have their own tradition/culture/rules. BTW, I have noticed many more races now making it mandatory for runners to not allow runners to leave behind poles... (which is ridiculous: if I broke one of my poles, do I need to keep carrying it? it's not even mandatory)

Seems dropping off the poles at the top would be an obvious advantage. Kind of a dick move by the competitor at 15:50 who noticed the infraction but didn't correct him out when he had the chance. Goes against the ethos of trail running imo.

Hope GTS make it mandatory to race all stages for the next time they organize it.
I know what you mean, but it may be detrimental in the end. These guys have loads of races and commitments all over the place. Making every race mandatory may mean some of the top guys don’t compete at all. It would be great to see them compete across all stages but I think it works pretty well as it is.
@@MrBrownie77 You either choose to be part of the finals or you don't. You say that this may mean that some of the top guys won't compete at all. But it's not 'competing' at all, if some choose to take rest days and others don't. I don't know of any other stage race event (whether running or cycling) where this is an option. They are not stages, they are separate events. It is not fair for those who choose to compete in all as intended.
