Great video action of Cowes Powerboat Festival . Amazing to see Double 2 Shirts ... sounds great. Cowes -Torquay is a proper test of off shore racing. 👌
In 1965 I was on the cliffs at Torquay watching the end of the race, Brave swordsman was sitting in the bay as a support boat. We saw Dick Bertram in Brave Moppie racing across the bay to the finish line, with another boat close behind. I think it was Tramontana, (although records suggest she was 5TH) or it may have been the Gardiner Brothers. The finish line was the Duke of Edinburgh's yacht Bloodhound & a buoy. Moppie crossed the wrong side of the line & suddenly realised the mistake. She did a flat out turn to get across the line just in front of the next boat & it was spectacular as water was thrown high into the air & the crowd cheared. Shortly afterwards Swordsman received a distress message & put the power boats to shame. 99 feet of gun boat going from a standing start to 50 knots in no time, is something to behold. It was so amazing I forgot to film it. The rooster tail went way up in the air as the props started to turn. The boat shot forward & 90 tons of gun boat went on the plane. Gone in seconds
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing that historic treat with us Graham. So good to read that. I'll share it with Christian Toll and dorian Griffith who are stallwarts of this race, love all the history and have competed in it for years. Do you live in the Torquay area then?
@@AttitudeCharter No just bought a car & passed my test. Went to a Pontins holiday camp in Penzance(I think) for a week. Stopped at Torquay on the way home
@@AttitudeCharter I recall pictures of Jackie S hitting the yacht & sinking it one year., Then hitting the Needles. I also recall Savundra being interview by Frost & calling the audience peasants after F M & A went bust.
It's certainly bloody fast on its day. Heard over the weekend it can push 140mph when running properly. Was also with the owners, Ola and Peter, Saturtday night. Will check the engine HP with them. Thanks for the info.
Superb footage complemented with the music and interview edits Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻

I've checked with the owner, Peter Ostlund, and he confirms the video info is correct - 2 x 850HP. Why do you think it's 2 x 1,075?
Well done Tim and Terry great video can’t wait for next year!!
Thanks Dev, us too. Should be BIGGER & BETTER!
