- A Devastating Crash Ends Double Trouble's Season | UKOPRA Lymington Challenge E10
What should have been a victorious race for Double Trouble turned into disaster at the UKOPRA Lymington Challenge. Leading the pack, we faced a devastating collision with another competitor, causing severe damage and nearly sinking our boat. Thankfully, both Tom and Gary are safe, but Double Trouble is not so lucky.
In this episode, you'll see exclusive footage of the moments before the crash and the aftermath. We take you behind the scenes as we haul Double Trouble back to our workshop in Cornwall, where we begin the long winter process of disassembly, removing the twin 9-litre supercharged V8 engines, and repairing the hull. It’s going to be a challenging rebuild, but our dedicated team of volunteers is ready.
About Double Trouble: Double Trouble is a Fountain 42 Offshore Racing Powerboat, powered by twin 9-litre big block supercharged V8s, built by Express Engines. We compete in the UK Class 1 Championship, operating on a tight budget and supported by a passionate garage team of volunteers in Cornwall. Ours is a true underdog story in the world of offshore racing.

Wow at least you.re not hurt . Bit of FLEXSEAL. . Racing in no time . Goodluck lads from Australia
OMG after all that work reengining, only to have this incident. I hope you can get it all back running soon.....and fund it. My heart goes out for all the hard work you have all put in. At least no-one is injured
Ouch, that is a LOT of damage! Stay safe guys...
Gutted for for you. I only found the channel a couple of weeks ago and love what your all doing.
Thank you Tom glad to have you along for the ride
You guys were f@&king lucky the impact wasn’t 6’ further forward. Looking at the way structural beam at the rear of the canopy has sheared under the impact shows the force of the impact. Will be following Double Trouble’s rebuild closely ❤
Grown man nearly crying here, pleased you're all safe and well - grp and gelcoat can be fixed
Terribly disappointing for your Team .. best wishes for a good outcome ... all the best in your endeavours.. appreciation from Australia ⚡️👍🇦🇺
Thank you for your support all the comments do really help the team spirit
Last video i watched was about the outdrives flexing and now this.. Damn sorry to see that guys, chin up and soldier on. Glad you are all safe and boat was recovered. Love from Aus.
It’s never ending! Thank you for your kind words.
Good to see she made it back to dry land 🇬🇧🖤🇬🇧🖤🇬🇧🖤🇬🇧🖤🖤🖤🇬🇧🖤🇬🇧🌍🇬🇧🌍🤿🌍🤿🌍🤿🌍🌍🌍🌍🙏
Soul destroying and you must feel dejected. However you’re both fine and I admire your determination to refuse defeat. Well done, keep at it and I’m in no doubt that all your hard work will bring future success.
We appreciate the support thank you
Best of luck guys, routing for the underdog!!
Started following you guys after seeing your boat in Falmouth. Gutted for you, hope you get her sorted 👍
Ouch, sorry fellas, looks like some big days ahead fixing this. Thank goodness you are ok, boats can be mended
Yes we are still in the game as you say
Really gutted to see this. We would be interested in sponsoring the repair. We're not a rich bunch but I'm sure we can assist with some cash in exchange for a bit of marketing which will hopefully help in getting her back up on the water
Thanks for the interest and offer of support, if you can contact us at eastwoodracingltd@gmail.com or message through facebook to discuss further.
This is awesome guys.
Sorry for a total crap end to the race and season. Enough work just keeping it going at the best of times, life sucks at times and hope the human spirit keeps you guys going and we can get some ££££ help your way
Hi Martin, a big blow for sure. keep trucking hey
@@eastwoodracing yep challenges of the motor trade gives you a bit of resilience training for sure
Seems most of the engine is okay. Let's just hope it's not too much to get the full build back together.
Fe*kin h^ll, absolutely gutted for you boys !!!
Good luck with the rebuild, I hope it all goes well 🤞🤞🤞
So sorry to see this. Based on my experience the pain is only just beginning...dealing with insurance companies to try and extract a fair compensation.
Thats a bit off work during the winter but you wil sort it out 🏁🏁🏁
Hey guys glad your safe. Was that Reggie Fountains kilo run boat???? I know its a fountain , just wondering.
What is the overall difference in performance/ride/reliability between Fountain and FB? Clearly Fountain offers more complete package. However, from watching videos seems you both had more fun in FB. Thanks!
Good question, the Buzzi was certainly fun to drive but we had developed it as far as we could and it was very very edgy over 115mph and we still couldn't keep up with the Outerlimits boats, We thought the Fountain hull had the speed too take them on and it was a project which meant it was within reach budget wise, It's a more stable boat and we still have work to do to get the best out of it and we are learning all the time with her.
When TH-cam puts almost a minute of commercials in front of a video, I click away.
Good luck.
Thankyou.
ouch. that is so cruel!
Is there a reason to use blower over straight mechanical fuel injection? Nature of UKOPRA series would seem to favor reliability over outright power. Last several seasons there have been consistent issues related to engine reliability on both boats. Not that difficult in US to purchase normally aspirated Chevrolet based big block engine generating 1,000 HP reliably. Appreciate blower motor has advantage of instant throttle response/torque.
Like you say more complicated running blowers, but they are so much more flexible in power delivery and if you end up with changing conditions which we often do, the blower motor will pull just as hard at 4000rpm in rough condition as it will at 7000rpm in the flat on the same gearing/prop . Normally aspirated has a much narrower peak torque window and lack the punch you need in the rough. There are lots of plus and negative points and we feel the boat performance is the no1 requirement but then you have to reduce the other risks, the main one we feel with the blower setup is not the engine but it's effect on the drivetrain, they are brutal and snap shafts, destroy parts and require exact throttle control
Thanks for great response. Good point that high horsepower, normally aspirated engines handicapped by narrow powerbands.
Gutting! Im guessing the other boat was Laa Laa? Appreciate you may not be able to say much.
I feel for you I was a race mechanic for 20 years and it happens! But it's always a bitch, keep up the good work, fortunately no one was injured
Authorities going to do anything?
I also have another thought if its of interest? One of my companies works with young people at colleges in the UK. Some of which are involved in engineering and other related subjects. Would you be interested in having a couple of young, eager people from college to assist you? It would be work experience for them so not paid and you'd get some extra help maybe. Plus, you would be helping local young people get into the business. BTW, we saw you in the Isle of Wight. That was quite an event.
Gutted for you guys, after all that work getting things together. I have no idea where you would even start to repair things so I hope you can show the various stages with everyone. Are you launching a Gofundme?
Yes savage end to the season, may look at a gofund type thing
@@eastwoodracing in your video you are asking about sponsorship. There will inevitably be more enthusiasts reading this than there are business owners, in which case sponsorship from a private individual is less lucrative and viable in the traditional sense. Have you considered selling small spaces on the hull to have our names added, perhaps making out the boat’s name. Just thought at the moment, and not sure how you would promote it or price it, but I see this vid already has 10k views with 1600 subscribers, that could surely be turned into a new pair of props, or at the very least a new ignition system?
@@eastwoodracing Yes, set one up!
We’ve now got one set up. gofund.me/c38c21cc.
Ouch!... Watched engine re/re after last race. ??? Is that a Fountain??
Hi Mark yes a Fountain Lightning 40/42
Need to update the advertising on the boat. TH-cam, click and subscribe for RE-build and race videos.
Glad she is above sea level lads and all are ok. On thw bright side it certainly makes for some good content.
Nobody hurt? 👍 Fix it and get back in the water.
Ah that's just awful. Sad end to the season. Busy Winter in the workshop ahead?
Thanks for your kind thoughts, yes definitely a busy winter.
110 degrees is not a "turn". It's well over halfway to a course REVERSAL.
US Ingenieuren…? No top😆
Well that sux.
It does indeed
Wish I could come help out.
Man it's hard to look at, the best thing you can do is start over not what you want to hear but for many good reason, that boat won't ever be structural sound like it was, the way the boat is manufactured your never gonna gonna get the Integrity back in there, might just be as cheap to start over sucks to say
I have a extra 10 grand in my checking if your looking to unload the boat for a new one 😍
Hate it happened but racing is wrecking too. Awesome looking boat except for the big TH-cam crap decals. FYT.
Really gutted to see this. We would be interested in sponsoring the repair. We're not a rich bunch but I'm sure we can assist with some cash in exchange for a bit of marketing which will hopefully help in getting her back up on the water
