- Father James is in his 28th year at DeMatha. He has served the school in so many ways during his time -- counselor, director of counseling, faculty member, moderator, rector and president.
In 2016, Father became the first president in the school’s history and began work with the school’s newly appointed Board of Directors. Since that time, Father has overseen a campaign that raised over $19 million for the school. That effort, in part, led to the present construction of the $4 million Cross Center for Engineering, Arts and Robotics. The building will open in early 2025.
Father will celebrate his 52nd anniversary as a priest in December. He has spent over half of his priestly ministry at the school. He has made it his mission to enhance and emphasize the school’s Catholic identity as part of the Trinitarian tradition. Father has also been committed to providing our faculty and staff a fair wage; keeping tuition affordable; providing financial aid to families in need; and improving and maintaining our campus facilities.
As the school’s first president and as the school’s longest-serving rector, Father will forever have a prominent place in DeMatha history. We honor him today for his outstanding commitment to the school and the entire DeMatha community for such an extended period of time.
