This illustrates why Fleshgod is more than just death metal mixed with classical music. This is good songwriting at its finest. This version is astonishing.
The child recites a quote by Epicurus: "Death is nothing to us. When we exist, death does not and when death does come, we do not." In greek: "Ο θάνατος ουδέν προς ημάς· το γαρ διαλυθέν αναισθητεί· το δ’ αναισθητούν ουδέν προς ημάς." Pronounced: "O thánatos oudén pros imás: to gar dialythén anaisthiteí: to d’ anaisthitoún oudén pros imás."
Exactly, glad I'm not the only one. The combination of both voices with the lyrics is really almost painful to listen, painful because it brings out the true strong emotions. Damn, I should stay away from songs about death... realizing our mortality makes me feel depressed.. gonna listen to some Alestorm now to cheer up.
screw everyone who says that metal musicians do not know what they are doing.....solid orchestration; solid balance; solid dynamics; solid timbres; solid recording; no musical stone left unturned...from a longtime metal head band director!!!
My mother died this year in July and though I bought this album on release, this song hit me in a whole new way during that dark part of my life and added some much needed light to it. Even now as I write and listen to this, my eyes well up... Please know that you all have touched my life in such an important way to me through your music and art. ❤️❤️
That's because there's so much beneath all the brutality.. They're not one of those bands that just mindlessly smash the drumkit to smithereens and call it "art", far from it even! They make art only to recognize that smashing the drumkit to smithereens would be the finishing touch.
Incredible what that song made me feel... I feel closer to death, and I accept it. This is lyrics. This is A song. This is beauty and death metal perfection itself. I'm shivering... "Death, the close of existence The mother of all fears and despair of mankind Is nothing but life"
how awesome would a mix be between this version and the album version. intro with acoustic and then build up to the normal version. i get the shivers when i play that in my head.
This was such an amazing sonic journey from a face melting band. As experimental as it is. This is something that needs to be released. A raw, humble and pure sound also expressed thru the voice of the most innocent child. Thank you so much for this.
Im sure I have already commented once, probably more. But I cant not come back to this song. Veronica's vocals are just.... wow. I dont have a full enough vocabulary to describe how amazing she is in this, and everything else for that matter. I cant wait until these guys can make it back to the US. I was overwhelmingly excited for the show with the 4-piece in 2020, which was cancelled mere weeks before the show I was attending. I am still constantly disappointed by that.
Veronica has stolen the show during the live performance they did during lockdown. A very hard thing to play / sing in front of plastic cameras, with no crowd. And here she confirms performance after performance how good she is.
Did my best to keep dry eyes, for I wanted to watch and not just hear the video .. failed! What a beautiful song and version of it. Did exactly what art is supposed to do (move; be that emotionally, intellectually or otherwise). Well done .. and thank you (to the whole band).
Literally just added this to my "Songs I'd love to be played at my funeral" mix. Thank you for such a song. (Love the main version too, but my fam would freak out haha)
Heck, their orchestral albums are already contemporary/modern Classical music, influenced by Tech Death Metal. Take the orchestral version of their 2016 King album, for instance. Some real motivational Richard Wagner-esque shit, right there.
Grandissimi, è incredibile il modo in cui riuscite a creare diverse versioni della stessa canzone e a farle funzionare. Già la nocturnal version di the forsaking mi aveva conquistato, e questa non fa eccezione. Complimentoni da Biella \m/
The album version is already melancholic. This turned into acoustic has been a lot more melancholic, sounding a lot more like a requiem. Greetings from the Philippines! Hope to watch you live soon.
I somehow wish that a performance with this instrumental/vocal setup and tempo would make some of the people without "metal ears" listening to it realize and understand why we regard all the other music by Fleshgod Apocalypse as equally beautiful.
OK, the black and white wind in the hair stuff is hilarious. I mean that as a compliment because I assume it's a bit tongue in cheek. This version of the song is legitimately awesome.
Closed, the eyes of the dead Yet I can see you all black surrounding my old abode Cry breaking the silence Lament of a mourner washing pain away like rain Life, the day we'll be gone (the greatest of all lies) A step into the unknown (the time to blink our eyes and we're gone) Free from all fears (before we die) Crave the peace of our earth (our immortality) As the memory (finally back to the) Resides in our name and fills the hearts (place of our earth) Lone, my body rests May the earth lie lightly upon my defenseless spoils Void, epiphany of absence Fading all my senses into the eternal night, vacuum Time, the day we'll be gone (illusion of our mind) The sleep of no return (the nemesis of the most foolish longing) Where everything's clear (eternity is...) Can't even read the lyrics without tearing up, it's just so beautifully written and it feels so personal while it applies to all of us. But that could just be me.
Wow, wow, wow!!! That song is gorgeous. What a voice. I always get tears in my eyes when I listen to it. Never heard of Fleshgod Apocalypse before but now I have you on my radar. 😁
In 2020 when I heard this song for the first time, my prayers where with those died due to COVID pandemics. Today I am in Ukraine and I see what is happening here in the middle of the hell of war. My prayers are with those killed by human ruthlessness and cruelty. Those civilian lives that never meant to be taken by someone playing god. This song makes me crying. Once more. Thank you for your art.
amazing voice cant say that enough. this hits 2 of my soul strings at once. cant even listen to the lyrics just everything flowing together. beautiful job. brought tears to my eyes
I'm just gonna be honest, Fleshgod Apocalypse is the only death metal band i can listen to and my top 3 in favourite bands, the other two being DragonForce and Kamelot. There's just something really special about Fleshgod Apocalypse that differs them from typical death metal.
@Quinty Silver-Wing I've heard Communion and Persepolis. They're good, but I think it'll take some time for me to like them. I'm more of a power metal fan (Dragonforce, Kamelot, Sabaton to name a few) rather than much heavier genres of metal. I got to FA because of the symphonic elements.
Eugene: joins Fleshgod, practices his ass off to play blastbeats at 300bpm
Francesco: "hold this shaker"
Band has recorded the song while Eugene was making his cocktail
Best comment ever!!!! HAHAHA

That's exactly what happened!

Her voice is unbelievably beautiful .
I wanna marry that girl man
And here I thought the song couldn't be more beautiful.
I HAVE NIPPLES ON MY NUTS
I'd like a bonus album full of acoustic versions like this for the next album !
Agreed!
I third this

Fuck yes
Fleshgod the band that knows how to combine brutality and beauty to perfection

Thank you so much!!!!!
An acoustic album of all the hits would be amazing. Really shows how great these melodies are.

I really like this trend of metal bands making acoustic versions of their songs.
Metal bands were doing that in the late 80s
this has literally always been a thing

Sorry to hear that. Good to see you bouncing back. Cheers!
I’m in the same position, my grandma died in June and this song really hit me hard as well. Crazy what music can do. Much love
My mother also passed away in July, I feel for you, this song is forever beautiful
So sorry, man. keep your head up and stay safe
Her voice is unreal. Even my nosehairs are standing up.
It's insane how a band so brutal can create something so beautiful. Very well done.

Closed, the eyes of the dead
Yet I can see you all black surrounding my old abode
Cry breaking the silence
Lament of a mourner washing pain away like rain
Life, the day we'll be gone (the greatest of all lies)
A step into the unknown (the time to blink our eyes and we're gone)
Free from all fears (before we die)
Crave the peace of our earth (our immortality)
As the memory (finally back to the)
Resides in our name and fills the hearts (place of our earth)
Lone, my body rests
May the earth lie lightly upon my defenseless spoils
Void, epiphany of absence
Fading all my senses into the eternal night, vacuum
Time, the day we'll be gone (illusion of our mind)
The sleep of no return (the nemesis of the most foolish longing)
Where everything's clear (eternity is...)
Fame resounds in the words (when back to dust again)
The true epitaph that will live forever (is inert, and all that remains it can be love or)
Pain, afflicting the hearts (we inflicted on other men)
Infecting the souls (infernal torment lasts)
It's carved in the memories of our sons (for the ones we leave behind)
Face what we've become (oh, who we really are)
It shapes in the mirror a man we don't know (laid bare before the highest judge)
The memory
Shine
Before returning to dust
Accept the finite nature of flesh
And carpe diem
Live each day as if it's your last
Unburdened of paralyzing dreads, move past
As the master taught us
Cold, the hand of fate
Cruel, falls down relentless the curtain on passing flesh
Death, the close of existence
The mother of all fears and despair of mankind
Is nothing but life
