Hello from France ! I have a SPLIT FIRE 4203 adapted on my mini excavator to split logs into small logs. The corner of the splitter is shorter than yours, which is more convenient for splitting on the ground. It's a treat to do this work with air conditioning, sitting and listening to the radio 😉👍👌!

Another thought, when your are splitting those large cuts, bring your trailer to the site and split the cuts over the trailer so you don't have to load them by hand to get them back to your splitting operation. : )

Exactly what I was wondering. Not sure the truck and trailer can get back there, but surely something to pull behind the side by side.

I had the same thought as it is the way I would do it. Meaning no disrespect, but Mike quite often misses short cuts like that.

So if not the trailer, then the 4x4 or what ever he plans to haul then out with. The point is to avoid the transfer from the ground to the transport.

So tired of having to crack a fitting open to let some fluid to leak out in order relieve pressure on an attachment that's been sitting for a long time.

would be nice to come up with a 4 way split head for that thing. one that could do a 4-way split on those larger rounds with just picking it up and splitting once. It is neat watching how you organize a 4way split though.

To prevent pressure in the hydraulic lines. When you shut down your engine move your joysticks to relieve pressure before disconnecting the previous attachment and you won’t have a pressurized lines. I had that problem and bought one of those clamps too. Someone told me about releasing the pressure and now I don’t have that problem. Enjoy your show!

1.There is a few times I needed one of those Irwin QC-Mate's. The first time you showed one of those, I bought it that day. What a life saver that was for me!
    2. As far as the Split Force, I would move it closer to the pile before splitting and quartering, so you don't have to swing as far.
    3. Excavator for sure!

Thinking about all the equipment you use that burn diesel. If you have larger tanks you could find a local supplier that would deliver fuel (especially off-road) and give you a better price than buying fuel at a gas and go store. If you filled all of your diesel equipment tanks that in itself would be a lot of storage. Buy now and save...fuel is just going to keep getting more expensive ...btw, I just love videos of the little clearing project....more please!

Hi Mike and Melissa skid loader mounted log splitter is definitely better than doing it the old-fashioned way or rolling it up a ramp and handling those big rounds but you will dig a big hole with the skid loader as you spin to move the logs that's the disadvantage. I think you should arrange a bunch of rounds out in the clearing area and let Melissa try her hand at the splitfire.

After shutting down the equipment, I always put my equipment attachments in a neutral position with no load on the system and the couplers go together and come apart easily. I never leave my equipment sitting with loads on the hoses. I have some old equipment and the hoses are in great shape and no leaks..... : )

    @njonebale7889 ปีที่แล้ว +2

My two cents on the excavator log splitter since I had one for the past seven years and 2500-3000 cords munched up later…the best set up is to buy one where the cylinder is mounted on the right side of the I-beam and the wedge is attached to the cylinder and the foot is on the left side of the I-beam…this way you can have a heaped up pile of rounds and you attack it from the left side and grab one… now once you split it in half you just retract the wedge and your already on the half to get the next split with out having to reposition or swing the machine…like with that two way split set up…way way faster…buy American!

Mike: That Kubota excavator in your talented hands is by far the "slickest" way that I have ever seen to take down a tree. Then to be able to hold that same tree a waist height suspended in air to have the luxury of cutting the rounds with a chainsaw ... well, it just doesn't get any better than that. Thanks for the GREAT video once again. By-the-way Eva is coming along nicely with a natural ability to finesse the workings of the excavator and the skid steer as well. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.

Sometimes when the pressure spikes, it's on the implement side. Not the machine side. Easiest thing I found was to grab a couple wrenches and crack a line loose. Let a small dribble of oil out and you're good to go.

We have a skid steer mounted split fire and I like yours better. I say that for one reason. On the excavator you can easily see the position of the ram at a glance. On our skid steer model you have to rely on the marker on top of the rail. We have an older skid mount splitter where the ram is visible and it’s a one direction deal but I can still split faster with that than the split fire.

Splitting and piling those rounds would be a great way for Eva to learn the feel and operation of the excavator. It's a job where she would be using a minimum of functions on the machine and at the same time accomplishing a task. That is if she is interested in learning the operating of the excavator more. It could prove to be quite beneficial to both of you in the future. i.e. helping dad during breaks from college. Plus, she may want to own one when she acquires her own acreage.

This was fun. There's nothing better than being in the woods! Hunter coming out to get you wout Melissa knowing could be bad if he had a seizure, but that's all. That guy knows them trails. One of my favorite videos was Levi and Hunter trekking the trails. Levi was going to a certain place, but Hunter had different plans. Hunter, laughing, having the best time, laughing loudly took the lead and Levi followed him to the brick house. Hunter went right in, grabbed a Coke, sat down at the table and waited for Kate to make him a sandwich! Hunter loves walking the trails, but makes it more enjoyable by getting a reward. I'll never forget how much he enjoyed leading his little brother through the woods. He took the lead when his Walkman's batteries died. He handed it to Levi and took off! I can still hear his laughter! Here in NC, they say 2 more days at 95° then the 80's. I prefer the 60s myself! Thanks, Mike!👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

6:25 Mike....Pro tip!! To release pressure in your lines.....turn machine off....then turn key back on (DO NOT START), lastly, cycle all your boom controls several times including those that control the split fire attachment.
This works 90% of the time. The pressure build up is in the machine, not the attachment.

Love how you strip the trees of the canopies and branches. Looks very efficient. 👍🏻

I loved your story about PeeWee and working on the shot. It brought back great memories. Some of my best memories are being on the shot and all of the banter that went back and forth between the loading crew. It made the hard work fun. I also ran a drill for a while but never had the privilege of an air conditioned cab. Always out at the drill guide eating rock dust.
