That was an amazing first test pan. And yeah I think you are right about losing the fines when not classifying. I was wondering the same thing about my sluice a few days ago.

Last summer I beach mined in Nome Alaska. Real fine gold on beach required less angle to settle out. Our sluice was set a 4*degree angle. I know it seems low angle but we got most fines. We used a. Constructed on beach plywood Highbanker. 2 feet wide sluice. 6 feet long. I’m into production. Maybe we could talk production. I have ideas.

Push gold up the Mat instead of down it... it's just the way the vortex riffles work.. don't get me wrong. The rpe is an awsome sluice. But if I have enough water flow. The dream mat is unstoppable.. watch some videos on the sluice off. Every single sluice except the dream mat had gild make it to the bottom.
