Thats some great colour. I like the idea. I really enjoy sluicung and seeing the bottom of rhe creek through the sluice would just add to the vibe (its like Mabo) Also, its plastic so its gonna be light. Cheers bro
Awesome! PLEASE do this with a clear regularly shaped pan, so we can see just how fast the gold drops to the bottom. I have a feeling the gold drops to the bottom much faster than most people realize and that they are over stratifying and wasting time. A clear pan will settle this!
Polycarbonate is stronger than acrylic btw, although both are carbon based polymers. Not the same thing. Awesome idea! I like how you can see what's happening in the sluice. Very cool.
Thanks mate although I don’t believe I mentioned acrylic. Lexan/polycarb. Was considering using acrylic to get the ultra clear finish after flaming but can’t beat the strength of polycarbonate.
When you make 2.0, see if you can make a clear mat out of silicone or another clear material for easy cleaning. If the mat fit in the grooves of the Plexi material it may hold better.
You can polish out the opaque machined sections of your sluice using a few different methods. The easiest is Flame Polishing where you use a propane torch held at a distance to heat and partially melt the polycarbonate. It turns it back clear, but can be a little bit tricky to learn as your first use it. It is easy to burn the poly, so practice is required. Another method is to use a acetone and MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) vapor chamber. It's really just a box with a container of acetone and MEK mixed together. It creates a vapor that partially melts the poly and turns it clear. Pretty effective and has great results.
Thanks mate! Tried to heat it with a torch and burnt a bit of the front just because of the large areas. Don’t know if I’ll get as fancy as the chamber but thanks I’ll keep it in mind for V2.
I don't think you would want to polish anything....if anything, you would want to rough everything up...otherwise, the gold has less of a chance to get caught up, and just blows on thru...
Hmm! I'm seeing mostly coarser gold. Is that normal for that creek? Did you test pan the tailings for fines? Intriguing. What was your idea behind the clear sluice? I've never worked with plastics. How did you mold your design, or did you have some company make it for you?
@@johnruckman2320 mostly flakey coarse gold in this creek. Never a lot of fines. See my instagram for more gold. Most all flakey. I did pan the tailings and didn’t find anything. I do have some improvements I want to make to it so there will be a V2. Cheers
@@johnruckman2320 i was actually cutting some polycarb up and it just came to me. “How cool would a clear sluice be” haha. I personally designed and manufactured it using materials and tools/machines i have at work, even used my stove top for the bent acrylic sides.
@@picketgoldprospecting1133, and you didn't get chased out of the kitchen by a rolling pin? Lucky! I'd probably end up breaking it before I could finish it. So classifying is a must to use it, I would guess about a #8 classifier. Though for that creek I'd use stacked classifiers and check each screen. A gold company does that when test panning and have found gold chunks stuck in the screens. I've never seen a classifier like you were using.
Use a small ICE powered pressure washer to wash out the cracks in the bedrock. You will also need a submersible pump to supply water to the pressure washer but in only needs to supply 5-10 gal per minute. So not that large and a 1000 watt generator to power the pump but the weight penalty is not that great considering the increased yields. Make a cart using bicycle wheels, strap everything to it and you can traverse quite rough terrain and long distances (1-2 miles) with minimal effort.
@@kenthaunschild2267 I have a small nozzle I put on my yabby pump to blow off the bed rock at the end. I would love to have a little pressure washer but the problem is my creeks have up to 10m high banks and has small waterfalls. Just a backpack for me. Cheers mate! Happy digging.
This sluice is awesome! If only it was drop riffles but I low key want 1 myself
AUsome video. Love the shot of materials running down the box, watching everything exchange!
Heavy Pans!!!

Can you make another video with that sluice? I liked that close-up shot from the side 🤙
Such an awesome sluice, would love to purchase one if you ever have any spares
Catching the gold,nice sluice!

Heck yeah let's see this guy grow just subbed 🤘⛏️🇺🇸
Cheers mate! I’m slowly getting better at videos haha

If I may borrow one of your terms, crackin mate! (or something like that)

gold is about $3,400 per ounce so well worth it = may be more in 3 months with the wars going on ? gool luck snuffer bottles work well !
