My mamas family were farmers. All of my great aunts had a hard rule. Don't step on her clean porches with no dirty boots. At the foot of the front and back steps there was a bench with a boot scrape to clean the boots, and a boot jack to remove the boots, and a tap with a pan under it and some soap. You cleaned your boots of muck using the scrape, then took them off and washed your feet and rinsed off them boots, then you could step up on to the steps and walk on her porch and into her home. Them boots stayed outside in a line of cubbys under one of the benches on the front porch. All of them. Saw some revenuers once walk on my great aunt Ruth's porch with their muddy shoes on.... she had words with'em. It ...didn't go well for them boys, only thing they got was red faced and back in their car to go away.
I bought the Ariat bootjack on Amazon to help remove my UGGS rainboots. It works like a charm!! Only 13.99. I was going to return the rain boots because I couldn't remove them by myself. Then a friend told me about bootjacks and I am home free!!!
Thanks - I have a new pair of Lacrosse rubber boots and fear I'll have a coronary one day trying to wrestle them off. I'm going to go for the cast iron one well, because 'Merica. I'm hopeful it will prevent my wife from stumbling upon my lifeless body lying on the ground with one boot half off.
One of the cowboy boot sites described and showed how one is NOT supposed to pull the boot along the joint between the heel and the upper, but higher up above the heel counter itself. Cowboy boots especially have no welt at the back, just nails holding the heel on, and pulling at that junction could end up separating the upper and heel. Even boots welted all the way around may suffer eventually, as Goodyear welt is only stitched inward to a fabric glued to the perimeter of the midsole, and this is a major weakness in the design.
Very nice review my friend. But be careful, all boots are not the same. You sould choose a jack that grabs 2-3 cm the upper leather of the boot otherwise if the grab is exactly between the heels and the upper part it will unstick it after many times of use. Thanks.
I ride horses (English style) & am looking for a boot hack to take off the tall pull on riding boots. Regarding the Ariat Boot Jack, I came across o e in a large size, so it's wider across & the underside that goes on the floor is also designed differently. I read several online reviews for the Ariat "small" boot jack, which looks like the one you reviewed, that said it's not too durable & some suggested getting Ariats larger boot jack instead. Do you have any feedback about that?
Trick I learned about 50-60 years ago. Use the jack to get the first boot over your heel, then before taking it off completely remove the other boot ;)-
Thanks for your review. I am about to buy my first boot jack as I am getting tired of struggling to pull my boots off. Cast iron boot jack looks cool but I was wondering if it might scratch the heels of my boots. Your review confirms it for me. I think I will go for the basic wooden boot jack as it is better for the environment than the rubber one.
Loved your comparisons, thanks. Now if only there was a device to help me get my snow boots ON. I have limited movement in my feet, so getting pull on snow boots on just doesn't go easily.
I heard the quality of Ariat boots went downhill once they started being made in China, so I personally won't buy any "Made in China" Ariats. In fact, I just bought a beautiful pair of gently used Ariat Pro Crowne Field Boots that were made it Italy & I'm waiting for them to be delivered. I heard the leather used for those boots is stunning, so I hope they're as nice as what's been said about them in all the blogs I've read. Fingers crossed 🤞
Ok, well, I don't get it, sort of. So I thought about buying one for ma lady. I see how it easily takes a boot off. Lets assume this is the real world though, and the boots are covered in dirt, mud and dog poop. You stick your muddy boot on top and take the other one off. Then, you take your other boot off while sticking your now sock covered foot on top getting the mud, dirt, etc. on your nice white socks. How is this not an issue? Just wear black socks?

Thank you for excellent information. Heading to website next.
Can across a bootjack today…these things are useful for coming home and simply slip into and shoe come right off. Unsure why not main stream product.

I just discovered a device I never knew I needed... especially after mucking around in a Junkyard
I don't have any type of boot, but I'd buy the cast iron because it's cool, timeless.
this helped a newbie, thank you.
I really appreciated this tutorial. It was very helpful.
I love my boot jacks but the dog keeps eating them. I bet the cast iron one would fix that problem.

I got my boot jack from boot barn and let the store clerk pick it for me.
There's a lot of flexing in the plastic one without much force being applied.

A stupid question here. How do you take off the second muddy boot without getting your sock dirty?

Can you review the redwing 1907?
Can anyone link the cast iron one? I can't find the one reviewed online!
I did it with the help of stodoys plans.

What about ornamental cast iron boot jacks?

can you make a whites boots review
I can. I just need them to send me some samples. We don't have a whites dealer in Chicago.
ok thanks
Dip that Cast one in some Plasti-Dip a couple times and it won't be so abrasive

Is the Ariat bootjack made in China? Their boots are.

Don’t buy the plastic ones. They break after a couple of uses.
You are so right.

Funnily enough I've only just asked the same question!
