The Phillies Show, I enjoy your channel, and I am a Yankees fan. You guys do a great job with it! I think the Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, Nationals and Giants will go after Juan Soto in the off-season. Yankees I feel need him the most. At 14:00 I agree 120% with Ruben on the panel! Plus, The Dodgers do not need Soto. The Dodgers won the World Series without Soto! LOL. But will want to drive the price up for him. The Phillies will be in it but probably will not match the Yankees and Mets offers for him in my opinion.
Boras and Soto will have opt out options so they can hot the market in 4-5 years, then go for a long term secure deal... Think he will break the Billion dollar mark with next two contracts..
Question for the guys: What do you think about trying to get Walker Buehler? While his post season performance probably boosted his value, he did have a bad year and is coming off his second elbow surgery so he probably wouldnt sign for more than two years. He'll want to reestablish his value. Could be a good singing. Maybe for a hot-stive episode?
In 2 years a lot of money comes off the books. If Soto defers for two years they can manage it. But If it's approaching Ohtani stratosphere then no way. Soto better pitch 200 innings to be worth that much
$80 mil falls off the payroll by 2026 and another $40mil after 2027. Casty, JT, Schwab, Walker, none of those guys should get resigned except maybe Scwarber short term. Not only could you, but you SHOULD try to replace that production and Soto is perfect for that. All of this money will decline in production, they are aging. You need to get creative, get a deferral for 2 years and more than make it up on the backend. $10mil or so for a couple years then super stupid money after that.
Realmuto, Schwarber, Walker, and Castellanos money all drops off in the next 2 seasons. If they go over the final tax for Soto, it would only be for a season or two...worth the sacrifice.
Richard, Judge does not have a super-ego money-wise. Remember the Giants were willing to give Judge more money than the Yankees! ...But Judge turned that offer down to remain a Yankee! And the Dodgers do not need Soto because they won a World Series without Soto!
Soto will 100% be on Phillies but TT contract was a major mistake. Atleast Soto and Harper know they have it. TT doesnt. Amaro u are way off base. Its 1 fking year they would pay tax. NYY allow him to walk wtf. Amaro hello if he Soto wants to go he goes. Not up to the Yankees. He wont be back on NY
I really don't think Soto is a good fit for blue collar Philly. Also, chemistry between him and Harper, him and Schwarber, even Turner could be a problem. Philly fans don't like show-offs. They like their heroes a little humble.
If you think Harper is a little humble after all of his early career stuff, then you can at least give Soto credit. He seems like a great guy off the field, and the stuff on the field is just showmanship and gamesmanship. PS - If he was white, you'd be more forgiving. Let's be real, you only called out white players.
Rick, A .288 batting average is pretty high for baseball these days. In 2024 there were only 8 hitters or so batting .300 or more! Plus, Soto was hitting .300 for most of the season but tailed off a bit.
Thomas, I am a Yankees fan and I agree with you! Soto is a great hitter that can hit homeruns. Aaron Judge is more the homerun hitter. Soto in Met's stadium will not hit 41 homers. Agreed! I think Soto will be good in Citi field but not a ton of homers.
@@Wolverine8091 I did not knock Soto. I am a Yankees fan and would love to keep him. I was just saying in Citi field he probably will not hit 41 homers is all like in Yankee stadium short porch. Soto is great all-around hitter like Ted Williams or Lou Gehrig too. A great hitter that could hit homeruns. All the best.
Dumbrowski was made too many bad contracts to be in the Soto chase, for example, Turner, Walker, Nola, Castellanos, and the Phils now have to live with a catcher on the rapid decline defensively and offensively. Please do not trade away the rising prospects. It is time to ask Harper to concentrate on playing baseball and give up his General Manager's gig! It's so exciting to watch the Phils sort through the league's "trash can" to improve their bullpen. What happened to Pat Gillick's emphasis on top-quality relief pitching?
He suck’s. Spends money till he’s fired. Left Detroit and Boston in shambles. I predict SF comes on strong even though he says he prefers E.Coast. Boras will take him to the highest bidder.
Any player is signable if the team and player are willing to do a deferred contract. With Ohtani's monster deal last year, he was paid only $2 million in 2024 and will get $2mil for the next 9 years before getting the bulk of the money. Anything is possible if all is willing
Soto stated he isn't doing any kind of deferrals on this new contract plus Steve Cohen said he'll outbid any teams proposal our payroll is $160 million currently so they can afford soto and some major pieces around him

Phils were in on Yammamoto last offseason, I don't think they're afraid to go over the tax numbers for the right guy
Dombrowski is good at bankrupting franchises.
Yamma wanted like 300 mil. Lol not 700 lol
@ Besides the point. GM’s across MLB should have known he was L.A. bound from the start. Thanks for driving my price up,
Santander, Profar and Bergman Forget Soto. Yankees will not let him walk.
Pay him $700 he will. That contract will cripple a franchise,
Get a few OBP RISP players for the same cost. It'll balance the lineup and prevent team-wide slumps.
Boras and Soto will have opt out options so they can hot the market in 4-5 years, then go for a long term secure deal... Think he will break the Billion dollar mark with next two contracts..
A perfect fit for the Phillies imo.
They need that xfactor and he would provide that.

How about beer that doesn't cost $19 a can! Even if it is 19ozs. I do love the idea of bidding Soto up so it costs another team a shit ton of money.
I put the odds of the Phillies getting Soto at no better than 5%.
I've got 75% staying with the Yankees
Roki Sasaki. That’s where I’d put all my chips this off-season and sign.
Then trade Ranger / Marsh for a quality OF.
Not a dream but a potential nightmare. Only worse nightmare would be signing Snell.
Yall are too optimistic. They will make an offer, but the chances of landing him are less than 1%.

Besides money the draft pick for a team that is in the playoffs every year while not great is fine short time
Juan Soto is worth 10 years 300 millions even judge is overpaid but his big ego had to be patted . Dodgers will not go after boras players

Soto is not the answer , Phillies need a outstanding closer and middle reliever and maybe sign Anthony Rizzo and put Harper in the outfield .
The answer is B
pipedream
No way in hell the Yankees outbid the mets if soto goes back to Yankees its because he wanted too

How is a BA of .288 a "great" hitter? Very good but....
Have you seen him with a glove😳
OPS is a far greater indicator than BA when evaluating a hitter.
