After watching and re-watching the series I still feel as if Big was the love of Carrie's life while she wasn't the love of his and he simply settled. He seemed to be searching for something that would fulfill him to a greater capacity than Carrie could and in the end he realized time was dwindling down so he settled with the person who was craziest about him.
That's exactly what I always thought. In the beginning the show leads you to believe that Big does love Carrie he's just terrified of commitment, but then he turns around and marries someone else. I think Carrie was his back up and he only went after her in Paris because he was afraid he'd lose her for good and might end up alone. I've actually posted on a few different SATC clips that while I believe Carrie did love Big, I seriously question whether he ever truly loved her.

I have my Mr. Big too for almost 7 years.. It was just as painful like Carrie and Big. He never told me I was the one but I was there waiting.. One day I was able to finally make my dream come true of traveling to Korea and I wanted to comeback because I want to see him again but a few months into my long vacation, a few doors from my Hotel room I met Aidan.. Everything was different and I was the one finally. Now we are married and we have a beautiful daughter, a dog and 10 years together. I hope to teach my daughter that love is not BIG, love is to find your Aidan. :)

I still don't think Big loved Carrie. His responses to her, his body language sometimes, idk. Yea they got married in the end but I never felt the butterflies watching them. I never got that true love vibe. Carrie mentions here that she hoped to meet someone one day who knew she was the one. Well yeah here comes Aiden who did exactly what she wanted and she treated him like shit. Yes Carrie Bradshaw is a flawed and somewhat relatable character but she was never a role model to me. I would never want to be in my 30s still acting like a teenage girl when it came to love. Just....Nope!
She was a great example of who not to be. Watching the show reinforces the message not to be like her. So I’m honestly glad they made her like that, so we can watch and learn from her mistakes and know better.
Let's face it... carrie was desperate and stayed around cause she was in love, and Big settled for the woman who was crazy about him because he was getting old and losing his options. He did cheat in previous relationships after all. This tends to happen a lot with older men. They don't choose to settle with their 10th or 15th serious relationship because they think "that's the one!" They do it because they are getting old and don't want to turn into the old undesirable man without a sex life. So they settle with a younger woman and tie her down when they are finally ready to admit no one else is likely to want them.
She had faith she would one day meet the person who was sure she's the one. She did. Aidan. She cheated on him the first time. Ran back and cried that she missed him and to take her back. He did. He proposed and she accepted but not fully because the ring was around her neck the whole time. She broke his heart again a second time by refusing to get married. Hahaha.

It does, but it's a great feeling once you've done it. It's fine to give someone a couple chances if you have a strong connection but eventually it's time to accept that the person will never change if they havent after one or two chances. Gotta learn to follow common sense and recognize the pattern instead of holding on to naive hope.

This part annoyed me cause she really wanted to hear what she wanted but I think even the gesture of them taking a trip together clearly meant something . She just couldn’t see it , he wasn’t good with words . She should have taken the damn trip 😩
“The one” is a pie in the sky notion in the first place. She should have gone on that trip, had a good time and then ended things when she came home, to stop the toxic cycle.

Look at how they wrote her character throughout the series: she was insecure and neurotic. Big was consistent in how they wrote him ie he was out of reach. She chose to overlook the signs, time and time again. She was emotionally immature and when you rewatch the series you realise how much. Even Charlotte, as particular as she was, had more self esteem and respect than Carrie’s character. And of course, Samantha’s character showed them all how to live to the fullest.
I really wish there was a show or movie from Big's POV. I've always wanted to know what was inside his head! Everyone has their opinions about Big: He never loved Carrie, he just settled because his best years were behind him and nobody wanted him. Remember folks, we only get Carrie's side of the story. The way Big was written was so one dimensional. Big always seemed like the type of man who had his heart broken. That he was afraid to tell Carrie how much he loved her. Or he beleived in "actions speak louder than words." Big expressed how he felt about a women, yet had it blow up in his face.
I can sooo identify with Carrie. I had a Mr. Big once and it hurt like holy hell to let him go. But you have to have faith in yourself as she said to find the right one.

Carrie was ridiculous with Big in season 1. She was kind of crazy. And you know Big, he was unavailable like always. Looking back now, I don't know if Carrie should have ended up with anyone. Maybe a younger Alex? He didn't take her crap.

Aidan was an all around amazing guy but his lifestyle didn't match hers you really saw that the second time the dated. Her life with Aiden would be awful, they were totally different people, it’s not enough to be good, you should be loved, he forced her many times, at least Big was honest with her, she just didn’t have to see Big as her lost “daddy” and see him as an adult man, it was her problem.
Aidan and Carrie had different values, it was never going to work. He wanted to make her into something he wasn't. He wanted a wife and family. Carrie didn't want children. That's a big incompatibility right there. He was a country boy, she was a city girl. He wifed up another woman and reproduced pretty quickly after they spilt. So, Carrie was quite replaceable and not the love of his life.
Carrie did the right thing........you should NEVER have to beg a Man to tell you that you are 'The One.' If he can not say it then he obviously ain't feelin it!
She's needy and overbearing. Can't believe I liked her 20 years ago. I've grown since and so through her issues. You should never force your partner to tell you they love you or that you're the one. Easy easy, have a great time and let the relationship follow its course.
I agree that Carrie seems needy. But I also appreciate her asking Big in this scene. He didn't want to introduce her to his mother and behaved strangely in public while being really loving and caring to Carrie when they were alone. That's confusing as hell and I liked that she just asked him directly. I also liked that he didn't lie. Big may be an asshole but he was always honest to Carrie

If you get to this point of desperation then mixed signals from the man has put you there, and the mixed signals shows he doesn't know what he wants, and when a man doesnt know what he wants and gets pushed in a corner like that... Well then he'll tell it as it is and you will be hurt. That is what happened in this. They had not even dated for very long. Carrie should've continued seeing him and let him come to terms with his feelings in his own pace, or walked away already if he wasn't giving her what she needed. She could feel he didnt love her back so she asked him to tell her she's the one to continue fooling herself, but thats not how it works. Likely though that he already knew she wasn't his idea of "marriage material" and would've continued having fun with her if she hadn't backed him into a corner like that, so in that sense it was good for her that she did I guess. I’m 19 so maybe i’m too young to understand but in these years of living I learned people run from what challenges them the most. It was clear that big loved carrie but he was also a playboy who was stuck in his ways. Life doesn’t grant you the freedom to be with the one who was made for you. It takes challenges and growth for you to end up together and be the best you can be for eachother.
I broke up with someone last night when he told me that he was not sure about me after only 2 months of being together. Granted, it’s a very short time but I don’t hate myself to the point of sticking around to see if I’ll eventually be “the one”. He was not wrong per se but it turned me off completely and left zero desire in me to further the relationship

My fiancé of 15 plus years has chosen alcohol over me. His liver is failing. He just got his 1st DUI. I understand why she wanted him to tell her she was the one. People are saying she shouldn't be forcing it, but I get it. She simply needed to know at this point, so that she wouldn't waste more time on someone who wasn't going to give anything back to her. She made the right decision here when he couldn't say it, but of course she ended up going back on it and basically staying hung up on him for several years. Sure, she had relationships with other men, but her heart was always with Big. She fell right back into his arms whenever he wanted her to. At least he did finally tell her she was the one at the very very end, years after this scene, but that probably never would have ended up happening in real life. They just had it happen on the show to give the viewers a happy ending.

When he married Natasha she was what he thought his wife should be, classically beautiful, classy, simple and not an emotional wreck. Honestly I don't think Carrie really loved Big. She just loved what he represented, which was money, prestige and power. Big was basically New York City embodied as a person, and for Carrie, being with Big and having him love her, would mean she had truly conquered the city. Carrie even said on the show that her one true love is New York City. If Big ever lost his money, prestige, and power, there's no way Carrie would want to be with him.
When I was needy and attached way too early a guy didn't settle for me either. It was only when I learned to respect my boundaries and his, became independent and not available at every whim, that things became stable. It's not always the guys fault. Someone might love you, while you're overly attached and that's not love. Someone probably shouldn't settle for you in that stage. When I feel someone is chasing an illusion and becomes needy, I can't be with them either.

I have my Mr. Big too for almost 7 years.. It was just as painful like Carrie and Big. He never told me I was the one but I was there waiting.. One day I was able to finally make my dream come true of traveling to Korea and I wanted to comeback because I want to see him again but a few months into my long vacation, a few doors from my Hotel room I met Aidan.. Everything was different and I was the one finally. Now we are married and we have a beautiful daughter, a dog and 10 years together. I hope to teach my daughter that love is not BIG, love is to find your Aidan. :)

I still don't think Big loved Carrie. His responses to her, his body language sometimes, idk. Yea they got married in the end but I never felt the butterflies watching them. I never got that true love vibe. Carrie mentions here that she hoped to meet someone one day who knew she was the one. Well yeah here comes Aiden who did exactly what she wanted and she treated him like shit. Yes Carrie Bradshaw is a flawed and somewhat relatable character but she was never a role model to me. I would never want to be in my 30s still acting like a teenage girl when it came to love. Just....Nope!

Let's face it... carrie was desperate and stayed around cause she was in love, and Big settled for the woman who was crazy about him because he was getting old and losing his options. He did cheat in previous relationships after all. This tends to happen a lot with older men. They don't choose to settle with their 10th or 15th serious relationship because they think "that's the one!" They do it because they are getting old and don't want to turn into the old undesirable man without a sex life. So they settle with a younger woman and tie her down when they are finally ready to admit no one else is likely to want them.

He couldn't say she was the one(deep inside she was very romantic, just say the words for God's sake! And the worst is Carrie kept coming back to him and it took ages for him give her what she wanted. He was mean and imature and she was very insecure.

It does, but it's a great feeling once you've done it. It's fine to give someone a couple chances if you have a strong connection but eventually it's time to accept that the person will never change if they havent after one or two chances. Gotta learn to follow common sense and recognize the pattern instead of holding on to naive hope.

Look at how they wrote her character throughout the series: she was insecure and neurotic. Big was consistent in how they wrote him ie he was out of reach. She chose to overlook the signs, time and time again. She was emotionally immature and when you rewatch the series you realise how much. Even Charlotte, as particular as she was, had more self esteem and respect than Carrie’s character. And of course, Samantha’s character showed them all how to live to the fullest.

I really wish there was a show or movie from Big's POV. I've always wanted to know what was inside his head! Everyone has their opinions about Big: He never loved Carrie, he just settled because his best years were behind him and nobody wanted him.
Remember folks, we only get Carrie's side of the story. The way Big was written was so one dimensional. Big always seemed like the type of man who had his heart broken. That he was afraid to tell Carrie how much he loved her. Or he beleived in "actions speak louder than words." Big expressed how he felt about a women, yet had it blow up in his face.

Well then he'll tell it as it is and you will be hurt. That is what happened in this. They had not even dated for very long. When a guy is bringing me on a trip with him, I'm not asking him if I am the one, I already know I am. Carrie is too needy, that's why she manifested this hot and cold behaviour from big and all these break-ups.
You know in hindsight, if Carrie wanted commitment from him, she really should have gotten out of her own way. It felt like the thing with Aiden where he needed more time before he was ready to be commit. And I think its because like with Aiden, he doesn't see her, or a life with her as his ideal.

She simply needed to know at this point, so that she wouldn't waste more time on someone who wasn't going to give anything back to her. She made the right decision here when he couldn't say it, but of course she ended up going back on it and basically staying hung up on him for several years. Sure, she had relationships with other men, but her heart was always with Big. She fell right back into his arms whenever he wanted her to. At least he did finally tell her she was the one at the very very end, years after this scene, but that probably never would have ended up happening in real life. They just had it happen on the show to give the viewers a happy ending.

Honestly I don't think Carrie really loved Big. She just loved what he represented, which was money, prestige and power. Big was basically New York City embodied as a person, and for Carrie, being with Big and having him love her, would mean she had truly conquered the city. Carrie even said on the show that her one true love is New York City. If Big ever lost his money, prestige, and power, there's no way Carrie would want to be with him.

When I was needy and attached way too early a guy didn't settle for me either. It was only when I learned to respect my boundaries and his, became independent and not available at every whim, that things became stable. It's not always the guys fault. Someone might love you, while you're overly attached and that's not love. Someone probably shouldn't settle for you in that stage. When I feel someone is chasing an illusion and becomes needy, I can't be with them either.
