  • This doesn't say Bounty Hunter but it's the same one they brand and sell. It sometimes goes on sale and is an okay starter pinpointer

    I also bought one...works well...the only bummer is that you have to turn it on/off every time you use it...so I'm modifying it...drill a small hole in the side wall and cut the pos (+ and solder extention circuit) lead...run a small pair wire to the top to normally open momentary switch...depress this button switch and adjust the on/off switch for no tone...when you pin point...all you have to do is press the button...when done...release the button and secure the pointer in the holster (check your adjustment now and then)...WHEN EVER THE METAL DETECTOR THAT YOU USE...PIN POINTS THE TARGET IN THE GROUND AND TELLS YOU THE DEPTH..dig your hole..run your coil over the clump to see if it is in there or the hole...3/4 or 1/2 inch is good...I don't need to have it reach 5"... 1/2" pin points location...thanks for listening...have fun..ENJOY...!!!

      Ooh good idea! Thanks for sharing. My ultimate pinpointer would activate when removed from holster then turn off when put in the holster.

    I got one of these with my new Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter !! detector. I really like it as it beeps and vibrates only when the tip is very near the target, not somewhere in the same area. A metal detector tells you that much.
    The purpose of a pin pointer is to let you know where in the hole the target is and this pin pointer does exactly that..

    Thanks Damien, this one comes with the Teknetics 4000 kit and I was thinking of just going out and buying a better pointer. I will give this one to my kids to use in the field to help me out when I go. Thanks for the review.

      +The McLaughlins Yeah if you get one with your first detector it's ok to get you started. And I totally get that it's hard to pay $130+ for a pinpointer, but it's the second most important tool you'll use and when it's great, it's worth it. I only got the BH because it was 1/2 price and it's in my 3rd tier kit.

    I just picked one of these up sold as a Bounty Hunter. I over paid by just a few bucks. And my results were slightly better by 1\2 to 3\4 of an inch... not enough to justify the price.. But I do agree with you it is a good starter. I'll continue to use it until the wife gives me more $$$ ! I think I'll pass it on to one of my buddies! Happy hunting!

      You'd say it's better than nothing?? , Keeps you from digging huge holes,somewhat.
      I've been hunting for a short while now without one, I have a Bounty Hunter ordered. Can't afford the hundred dollar one, at least now.

    hey great review, i picked up the bounty hunter pin pointer, the signal on yours had a lower tone than mine did i noted, its my first one so just in the learning process, have subscribed too. my grand daughter and i have just started out in this cool hobby, i have the bounty hunter prospector and she has the bounty hunter junior, our second dig at a base ball field
    for about an hour , we found 2 quarters a dime, and old pull tab, 2 old bottle caps we did not have the pin pointer yet. so we are going out tomorrow to test it out

    If you need to touch something to figure out if it is metal, then this is great...otherwise it's practically worthless in the hole. If it could at least do an inch or so, it'd be a different story, but you really need to be touching whatever you're looking for directly, and at that point you've probably already seen it with your eyes, haha.

    thanks for the demo, I got one with the actual detector but there was nothing in the box about the pin pointer but I figured it out, and like you said it's ok, but later down the line I do want to get a water proof pointer, and I also am thinking about modifying this one so I can plug in my head set to it, it's kind of weak in the sound dept.

    Why would you want a PINpointer to detect farther than say 1/2”? Use your fancy metal detector for that! Are you using it as a broad view or a PINpointer?

    they are good when the Garrett has a hard time in a hole. I had a hard time trying to figure out where I was digging and used the BH pin pointer and I was way off with the garrett. So I carry both in the field.

    The company didn't waste any stock margin making the rheostat stiffer so it won't self-adjust when digging.
    It requires touching the item for it to sound off.
    It DOES regularly:
    * Change the setting with bumping while digging
    * Pops the battery cover off
    * Eats batteries quickly
    * Does not work in sub-freezing weather (I shove it down the front of my pants to keep it in operating temperature.)

    • @MDGeardotcom
      @MDGeardotcom  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep pretty bad. Ok IF you got one free with your detector and it's all you can afford. Or maybe IF it goes on sale in the $20 range.

    Worked for like a total of 7 or 8 hours. You gotta hold it like a baby, can't even get the damn thing in the dirt or it'll break, and then sound stops working.

  • @jusdafax1
    @jusdafax1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've had two of these that both came as giveaways with metal detectors I bought . They are total trash. The first one broke where the shaft attaches to the body after my second hunt with it. The second one just quit working after a few weeks. Buy the Garrett or Whites rather once or buy this thing once a week. Your choice.

    Don't WANT a pinpointer to pick up objects so far away that you have to dig more, or don't know which way to dig in order to recover it (that's what the metal detector is for, in the first place) ...so in that case, the less expensive Bounty Hunter Pinpointer helps you locate things much quicker since you will know exactly where they are.

    Well MDGEAR , my wife bought me the bounty hunter land star kit .
    And this same pin pointer came with it .
    I have not used it yet , because , when you battery it up you can't adjust it at all . It never shuts off , only when I turn it completely off . I'm not
    happy with mine .
    I think I will strike it up to a loss cause and buy a real pin pointer .
    Thanks for you sharing your vids .
    Remember to keepa swinging .

      Adjustment is kinda weird on this. You turn the knob until it's making a sound then turn it back slightly till it stops, and that's when you're ready to use it. Certainly not a great pinpointer - you'll really appreciate spending on a good one. Important tool for quick recovery. GLHH !

    Finally an honest review. I've always had a garret pin pointer but as you mention they have been having a few quality control issues, I am looking for a replacement for my Garret as I have to take it back for the fourth time due to failure. I feel naked without one so need to find something reliable. Oh and I'm not hard on my gear the last replacement, the one I have to return is only 4-5mounths old and only the second battery and the speaker crapped out, sounds like a sick rooster.
    Any suggestions I am going to contact them directly.

    I've just bought a Chinese GP pinpointer, its every bit as good as a Garrett carrot. Detects around 2/3 inches for a medium sized coin. Why would you need anymore depth than that.....it defeats the object of having a full sized detector.

    Don't waste your money or your time. This one came with the bounty hunter tracker i bought for my little cousins. It won't und off unless you are literally pressing it into the target. In my many years of metal detecting experience, this doesn't do you any good because at the range it starts finding the target, most of the time you would see it popping out of the hole anyway. Just save yourselves and get the Garret Carrot. Simple design, no frills pinpointer. I don't like the Whites TRX. It's more expensive and it falses way too much.

    Warning this pin pointer is terrible! I needed a backup for my old Whites...the Whites stopped working today...went out and used this one today several issues...
    When you try to set dial just below the sensitivity of sound it moves around and starts going off...so you have to stop while hunting to either turn it off or put sensitivity to low to pinpoint a coin! I picked it up for $10 new off Craigslist.... not worth that... more like a toy 2 thumbs down... Oh and you can basically put it on the coin and if lucky it might go off...poor...

    • @Aswaguespack
      @Aswaguespack ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Out in the field in real world conditions the results are rather poor. Air tests are one thing but using it in the ground and it just produced rather poorly.

  • @andreistefan4234
    @andreistefan4234 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Got one of these bundled with my detector. It sucks: poor build quality, you have to be touching the target to get any feedback, dust and dirt get under the on/off button and there is no waterproofing to speak off.
    If you do plan on getting a pinpointer, I would suggest you save your money and get a White's TRX or a Garrett Pro Pointer.

    • @MDGeardotcom
      @MDGeardotcom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Andrei Stefan Sound advice that. And I understand after dropping several hundred on a detector to want to go cheap on a pinpointer, but a good one is so worth it! Thanks for comment Andrei.

      @sweetbeep 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DO NOT DO IT....i repeat...DO NOT GET THIS ONE!!! the only way i would recommend buying it is if its possible to make the dial stiffer becuz it is so darn loose it gets bumped out of position ALL THE TIME. and then after that make a modification internally to make it more sensitive....i tried modifying it externally all kinds of ways but low and behold it didnt work out in the field...the dial kept getting jacked out of position....its better than nothing....but its much safer to get a good pinpointer cuz you r digging around much less with your hands

      I have the same one and figured out at its highest sensitivity it's at its weakest. when you turn it on and starts vibrating on its own just keep going until right when it stops.
