Years ago I saw the band 'Modern English' at this teeny little club in Chicago. They pulled up in their rental van, which was being driven by one of their road crew -and oh my, was the thing beat to hell! Dents all over, etc. I said hello to their guitarist, who struck up a conversation with me (and he put me on the guest list which was very cool) - I asked him about the condition of the van, and he replied, "yeah, we didn't think driving in America would be so confusing; we didn't even make it out of the airport parking lot without hitting a lamp post there; then backed-up into a parked car at another lot only hours later when we stopped to eat".
