Thank you! For this story..and all the stories that you have done..I love true crime stories..I like the narration..music ..and pictures..I like your narration better then others I have heard.. because you don't put your opinions in the stories when others do on other true crime stories..you tell the stories straight..I like that!! Also I loved the ghost story at the end of this one.. Awesome!

My Great Grandmother was in service and fell pregnant to the man of the house, she was dismissed and spent time in the workhouse, she gave birth to my Grandmother who thankfully was able to find a life for herself. My Great Grandmother later in life was admitted into a mental hospital and spent the rest of her life in there. Those Victorian days in service with the HIGH MORALS expected, class distinction and hardly any womens rights ruined many a life :o( Very sad. It still resonates to this day but I hope we have improved from those days, we never seem to get it right.

It is kind of heresay (he said/she said) if it was whispered to only one person and no one else saw it or heard anything slightly even, because if the person she whispered it to was biased he could swing the favor of the juries opinion if he felt like lying or bending the truth and they accepted the witness and testimony as evidence. Depends on the credibility of the individual but most times unfortunately even if it's true it is considered heresay.

For real, I just cannot fathom any human being, who has resigned themselves to death following a brutal attack from someone they thought loved them(“let me die”) would then name an innocent person as the perp. She used her dying breath to name her killer and even in that, because of her station in life, she was ignored. Even then. What a disgusting and shameful act by that judge. Often female servants were seduced or assaulted by a male member of their employer's household. When the female servant became pregnant, she was generally dismissed without a reference. As a result, many dismissed servants turned to prostitution to support themselves.

At the moment she spoke it, Jane had realized that she was not going to have a charmed life with Edmund after his attack. The betrayal cut deeper than his slashing. She said "Let me die." And she absolutely meant it. So tragic. I was hoping for a miserable end to Edmund's life as well...but we'll never know.

This is definitely a miscarriage of justice against the rich and poor…because she was a young servant girl and not from an upstanding family or class this was her only crime..Edmund was as guilty as sin and he committed a gracious crime against both mother and his child, and he wasn’t man enough to stand up to his responsibilities and used this poor unfortunate girl servant in having his wicked way and then discarding of her as if she was rubbish…which is what he said the justice system is a disgrace and God law is ..Do No Harm!!! And that doesn’t mean that you should be allowed to get away from be a criminal and getting away with it…it’s only going to encourage it!!!

.This is my neighbourhood. Where the farm was at well hall, there's now a lovely public park with beautiful flowers, a moat and ducks and there's houses, apartments and shops nearby. Of course the whole kidbrook area looks unrecognizable now with some expensive apartments. Poor Jane next time I'm going past Brockley I'll stop at the cemetery and search for her grave

He sounds good for it, especially after how he disparaged her, my goodness. So much of the outcomes in these cases are based on different combinations of here-say, class and public opinion. Their best shot would be a lot of witnesses seeing the pair together. The poor thing got no justice.
The family being forced to move is nice though.

A very sad and typically unjust case when status and station in life were everything and servants were nothing. Just to be used and abused, thank God we live in a more enlightened age. I would have hated to be a servant in those days especially if I had been young and pretty. Another story well told, thank you for these true stories and the very excellent way you tell them.

    Poor, poor girl💔
Her last words seem believable. She must have felt wretched, and in awful pain with head injuries and left to die on a dark road.
    What a betrayal of trust!
Her poor little unborn baby was another innocent victim here💔
Pook's story doesn't ring true. I think that he's the likely suspect.
I bet that Jane took her love letters from Edmund with her when she went to meet him, ready to start her married life with him, and he probably stole them after inflicting mortal blows on her.
