My quail hatched on Dec 1 and I think they are ready to go outside. But we have our first cold spell due here this weekend. The temp will be in the high teens. I am going to wait until Monday when the weather is supposed to moderate to move them outside. It has been interesting to watch them develop as this is my first batch. I checked on them this morning to find my only male face down in my watering tank which is a piece of 4" PVC pipe. I thought he was a goner. I pulled him out and dried him off and found he could move a tiny little bit. I did about 5 minutes of quail CPR with chest compressions and he slowly came around a bit. I wrapped him in some dry paper towels and put him in a container that held him upright for about 30 minutes. I checked on him every 10 minutes or so and watched his progress. He made a complete recovery and seems to be back to normal. Needless to say, I put a lid on the tank so that couldn't happen again. He is my only male and would be missed until I could replace him. The rest of the quail finally discovered how to drink from the little red cups and I don't have to tend to the waterer every few hours to see that the cups were full. That same male finally discovered what the sandbox is for and quickly taught the girls how to use it. He hogs the box for hours on end.
All good advice. Im in Canada. My basement stays in the mid sixties in the winter. I start raising the heat lamp after 2 weeks a few inches a day until the 4th week. Then they go outside.
Great video Chris. I just started weaning my heat lamps off my 2 1/2 week old chicks, but I am in South Mississippi. Plan on moving mine in a to our protected Back porch for few days of acclamation to new surrounding , later this week.
Thank you for sharing. I live in Murfreesboro Tn. What breed would you start off with? Secondly how many would you get. I’m going to be using these for meat, and later income. Thank you for your help, and where could I buy in the New Year? Happy New Year🙂
Great video. My question is that i have one incubator which is controlled with w1209 temperature controller but I am confused about the right temperature coz I have few other thermometers and all are showing different temperatures as under W1209 = 37.7 c HTC2 = 37.1 c Mini Hygrometer = 37.3 c Wooden Analog = 37.9 c How do I know the exact temperature?
Great video. Keep up the good work Chris. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas.
Sound advice Chris. Thanks for the video.
Stay safe and keep them coming!

I have some 5 or 6 week old babies and WAS concerned about the weather...but then it was 80F for Christmas :( the joys of living in TX I guess!
They are pretty hardy by then.
I was wondering what's the best incubater is because I was wanting to get to growing Quail. Also what kind of feed is best also. Thanks!
