  • Here is the pilot for "The Honeymoon Game" with Jim McKrell. As Jack Barry mentions at the beginning, this was to be a 90-minute game show, but the producers felt that the first game was not up to par with the rest of the show. Therefore, the entire first segment of the show was cut out before this was presented to networks. What we are left with is basically "The Joker's Wild" with couples and celebrities asking questions in their respective categories. Celebrities were also used in the first "Joker" pilot, as well as a series of shows in 1974.

The Joker's Wild: Pitched many ways many times, ultimately did become a show, and lasted quite awhile.

"Bob, I know you've done quite a few pictures." See the TV Trope: Hilarious in Hindsight.

I recall seeing that red/orange.green/yellow back wall used as the pillars to separate the three curtains on Bob Barker's Truth or Consequences for a few seasons. Nice to see recycling.

I know this is pretty late, but the recycling makes perfect sense given that both shows had Metromedia involved.

Per those who've seen the full version of this pilot (including The Game Show Pilot Light), Game 1 was a combination "personal identification/ESP" Newlywed Game-style thing (played at the area the celebrities use for Game 2, hence the score displays on the front) that everyone onstage seemed to know was a trainwreck.
The fact it has pretty much no relevance to the rest of the format, itself a slightly reformatted Joker's Wild, probably didn't help.

"Shades" by Pat Williams made the rounds as a game show theme. It had previously been used on Heatter-Quigley's "Funny You Should Ask".

Gee, I see why it was originally slated for 90 minutes. Such a slow, plodding affair! LOL!
Jim McKrell was a good choice for this pilot; Allen Ludden also was good on the follow-up that was the Joker's Wild pilot. But I'm glad that Jack actually wound up hosting this show himself.

Was there any reason for Marc Copage to even be there?

Crane looks like he'd rather be anywhere else, JP before The Gong Show. What a goofy group.
Game show pilots, the vast wasteland.

This is a kick... Colonel Hogan, Dodger pitching great Don Drysdale, Jaye P. Morgan and ex-Governor Pat "Bumbles" Brown! Who put this panel together? I only wish Phyllis Diller had been the woman! I'd of loved it if they'd shown us the original first game segment... from what I've read, it was atrocious! lol
