Amazing to see how years later this woodsman is moved to tears, humbled and grateful, just thinking about a particular buck. This is an outstanding episode.
This guy is the real deal. Puts all these wanna be deer hunter shows on TV and TH-cam today to shame. He gets it more than most will ever understand while they chase the next 200” whitetail. Thank you for interviewing him. A true woodsman and outdoorsman. The best kind of representation of our HOBBY out there.
What a Masterpiece! If you can't enjoy listening to Mr Jody, you should just stop trying to look. This man was an absolute JOY to listen to. Salute Gentlemen!
Alotta people don't get why this man's gettin choked up over a 130-140" deer, come hunt the Louisiana swamps and see jus how much work and determination it takes to pull one out. It truly is the biggest reward you can work for!
Fellas I hate to tell yall this but yall might as well go ahead and retire because you won’t ever have a better episode and or guest than that guy there. Hands down best show yet
This fellas advice reminds me of my dad’s advice and stories about hunting swamps on public land in Georgia. My dad had a place on wma where he found an island out in the swamp. At low water it would only be a few inches out of the water, but the critters flocked to it to get away from hunter. He would wade into it and tag out on every hunt there and kill plenty of hogs in the process too. I enjoyed the podcast, thanks fellas
The fact you get emotional about some of these harvests just tells me how connected to nature you are and a true sportsman. Thank you for sharing such great experiences. God bless you and your family.
If you can kill a good deer in these places he’s speaking of, you can kill a good deer anywhere. Takes a special person to hunt these swamp deer. Awesome interview!
I’m glad to see y’all interviewing some Louisiana hunters. I could listen to Mr Jody tell hunting stories all day. I just moved from south Louisiana to North Carolina. 2 seasons bowhunting in the swamp on public and got nothing. 1 month in North Carolina and I already got my first deer on public. That swamp is like a different world.
Florida hunter here, the swamp is a whole different beast. I have went on a few trips out west and in the Midwest corn fields and it is laughably easy in comparison.
Yessir good people down here. This man right here is the type of man you want in your corner when the chips are down in life. His dad grew up on a house boat in the basin that’s a hard life right there. These type of men are a dying breed.
This man has alot time in the woods and is very smart about how his time is spent in the woods also. Very good episode. I myself have hunted in the basin and it is not an easy place to navigate. Hats off to you fellas
Turned 40, I’m from west Baltimore and never hunted a day in my life. Took our state hunters ed course only to be able to legally purchase a handgun. (Maryland laws) Listening to this man love of the game convinced me to attempt my 1st hunt. We are allowed unlimited deer here. Deer damn near like rats in Baltimore’s region. They begging us to take them. Great episode also my 1st. The algorithm is wild!
Listening to this brought me back to talkin with my late grandpaw. I try to keep my cajun accent as much as possible but its sad that I don't hear it that much any more.
I appreciate you guys bringing these type of hunters on. This is what real deer hunting is about. Not inches, not technology, not doing anything you can to make it as easy as possible to kill the biggest deer possible. This guy is the essence of true deer hunting.
One story reminded me...I overslept at a lease, left about 10:00am and told camp boss I was going to get a deer. We hadn't heard a shot. I took off on 4 wheeler, crossed creek and started setting up a folding chair/net (kinda like Ben Lee). A big buck came running through and I got him, loaded up and back to camp in about 20 minutes from time I left. Camp boss said "I thought you were going to get a deer?" I said I did. He thought I was joking. I said I wasn't. He said "Let's go get it". I told him it was hanging up already. First shot of the day, he just knew I hadn't made to the spot yet. He didn't believe me until everyone else got back.😂 I got lucky...thanked God
Being from Lafayette and hunting deer in Louisiana for 47 years, deer hunting here revolves strictly around the P's Pressure People Poachers Predators Pigs The bottom 4 p's all really translate to the first P and that is Pressure, hell the rut dates in area 6 even rut around pressure, the later it gets the better it gets because the deer are waiting for people to clear out the woods. I've got pictures of rubs and scrapes very very fresh and in large numbers in March and even into early April when its been a really mild winter as the warm weather helps them keep their antlers longer are so I've been told Moon phase, rut, feed, etc., you can all but chuck all of that unless your on the big high dollar island clubs in the river like Davis, Giles or Glasscock to name a few or a few other choice properties across the state where land holding is super larger and pressure is super low. Other than that hunt around the P's and you gonna kill. em. The pressure here is like no where in the South.
I have seen fawns here in Florida that couldn't have possibly been sired by a buck with hard horns, the dates just don't add up. I am convinced they will still breed given a doe in estrus.
I'm gonna add on to what so many others here are struck by. I don't think there is anything in that house that I admire more than his pure gratitude, humility, passion and appreciation for his experiences. We all got educated here today.
I read scripture in the stand this weekend. Lord told me I was in the wrong tree. I moved to another tree. Said a prayer. 30 mins later, the Lord blessed me with a nice 9. Last day of our hunt. God is good. Read scripture, pray, deny the flesh, live in the spirit. Trust me, the Lord will bless you!
I hunt the Atchafalaya swamp when the waters high the bucks get on the ridges and easy to kill. Thats why they close the season early during high water
As strictly a swamp hunter in Georgia it's crazy how similar me and this fellow think and hunt. Iv told hundreds of people how I don't hunt food plots I like to get deep in a flooded cypress in bottom and ambush them and have killed 2 wall hangers in a flooded cypress bottom with rubs almost underwater and using the water as a early detection method.
@@Floutlaw87got a 8 pointer Saturday after hearing him blow I hit the snort wheeze and he crossed two Creek fingers and came in looking for a fight in belly deep water 💯🤟4 of the 8 points were broken off
Wish I had that around me here in Vermont. I've covered miles of woods and can't find any fresh rubs or scraps. And when I do I fallow it straight into posted land and can never get an opportunity to hunt it. I've knocked on so many doors and everyone says no. So frustrating in vt. Any advice on what to do. I live in franklin county vt. Virtually no public.
ATTENTION to the older gentleman thank you so much! I took your advice i never scouted deer before an I'm like I know I haven't but I'll use your facts an I hunted edge of a swamp sat for 30mins I used the rattles nothing happened I waited 30mins leaned my gun on a tree an was texting my mother as I was about to head home for lunch half way threw my text I hear 2deer stand up an walk into the swamp as if they got zapped in by ufos😂 I grabbed my 20guage so quick emptying 3shots at her 1slug 2buckshots only the slug hit her an I got 2 lungs one lung looked explodes an the other had a huge can size hold through it. Thank you so much this is my second ever deer been hunting 5years I appreciate the advice. I wasn't there not even 1hour bc I moved locations closer to the swamp.😂 I was literally on the edge beautiful doe old too had only front bottom teeth nothing else. Glad I could kill a big healthy doe. I felt so bad for her having hardly any teeth
I disagree Jonah.. you have to hunt your own hunt regardless of what any one else is doing. I have also seen more hunters in the woods during bow season but it’s not actually affecting my hunting. scout more and get in those bedding areas. You’re going to have your successes either way brother 🤝
Amazing to see how years later this woodsman is moved to tears, humbled and grateful, just thinking about a particular buck. This is an outstanding episode.
I could listen to this guy talk for the rest of my life.
Pause 💀😂

For the first hour I never opened my phone to see the video just listened didn’t bother me one bit lol
A coonass can tell stories all day long
Finally! A point of view from somebody that hunts from my area! It’s so much different than hunting deer up north!
