The Skaro that we see here (both the outside,and the corridors) looks almost exactly like its original appearance from way back in 'The Daleks' from 1963/64.

I see this phase of the Doctor as a mid-life crisis, he has really good character devolopment over his tenore. He Starts out as a grumpy man, then gets to realize the fun in time travel again, and by the last season and end, he's turned in to a wise old man.
Yes! It's why he's my favorite. He grows as a character much more than the others (imo)

Yeah, I kind of tend to be prisoner of the moment. My favourite Doctor is always the one I am watching. First it was Eccleston, then Tennant, Smith, Capaldi (I havn't gotten into Whitaker jet). And now that I'm diggin deeper into classic Who, I have grown pretty fond of the fourth Doctor.
It is from this episode that we can see the doctor feeling towards Clara has grown exponentially from s08 with now him being a hugger, showing his feeling, playing pretty woman to Clara etc.

What I love about this episode is it's directed phenomenally by Hettie MacDonald, who as you say gives it such an epic cinematic look and feel, which is even crazier when you realise the only DW episode she's directed prior to this is Blink! A great episode too, but so much smaller in scale and more intimate in tone - she's such a talent.
I actually love this opener.
Huge thing about this two parter is that it's a sequel to a highly regarded 4th Doctor story called "Genesis of the Daleks", which is an origin story for Davros and the creation of the Daleks. This story hits even harder if you've seen that classic, I highly recommend it.

That recording that Davros played was of the fourth doctor Tom Baker... A very distinctive voice, and the first time Davros met the Doctor.

I love this episode. As a fan of both Davros and Missy, this was a total dream. On top of that, both Peter and Jenna have AMAZING performances in this. What an opening 😍
Also the following episode is the only episode where the Master and Davros meet. When Missy scratches his eye like she said she wouldin this ep, that was chef’s kiss.
The delayed reaction to the Davros reveal is pure comedy gold. :D
And yes, this is how you start off the season with a bang. I lost count of how many times my jaw hit the floor.
Davros and MissyMaster- the two greatest Who villains in one episode.
Get ready, guys. Every episode of this season (aside from one I refuse to think about) is a two or three parters.
I assume you mean Sleep No More 😂. Sorry for reminding you of that abomination. And as for the three-parter you speak of (Face the Raven, Heaven Sent/Hell Bent), technically it isn't considered a three-parter, they're classed as their own seperate stories. I know what you mean, it *_should_* be officially considered a three-parter but isn't. Technically the only three-parter that the modern show has ever produced is Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords. Not even the Monk Trilogy of Series 10 officially counts as a three-parter - they're technically their own sepetate stories. Still it doesn't really matter, you can take it as a three-parter if you prefer, which it should be really.
Also, wierdly, The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived are technically sperate stories well, not a two-parter. Don't know who decided that.

EVerything on this opener was on point yes some crazy moments but THAT opening scene reveal....from that moment the series 9 premiere did not let up.... and series 9 as a whole was a GIANT leap up from Series 8 (yesi adore some episodes of Series 8) anyway adore this series... controversial amongst some fans but it is brilliant.

The scene that they showed from the Fourth Doctor is from the "Genesis of the Daleks" story, which in many ways could be considered the opening shot of the Time War. It was, to the best of my knowledge (and of course this is complicated by both sides having access to time travel), the first large scale act of aggression between the two species.
Russell T Davies has confirmed that it quite literally was the first shot of the Time War. With 'Resurrection of the Daleks' being another major escalation in the conflict
And the Act of Master Restitution (possibly the McGann TV movie opening)

This you may know but given what was shown first, here is a question from the 4th Doctor talking to Sarah Jane and Harry from Genesis of the Daleks "If someone pointed a child out to you and told you that child would grow up to be the most evil person in the universe could you kill that child?" Now whether he was talking about the Master/Missy or he was referring to Davros the question stills stands. But if they wanted to end the Daleks forever why not send the 4th back to alter Davros timeline from when he was a child?
In real time it was about 8 years since we last saw Davros and that woman from the Shadow Proclamation.

this is my favorite season opener ever. i love steven moffat's first episodes for every season (and holidays specials too). he's amazing at it. i remember watching this over and over again when it came out, probably, like,,,,, five times? in a week? anyway SEASON NINE IS NEW WHO'S HIGHEST POINT (we pretend sleep no more doesn't exist)

I love Series 9 so much. All the two parters and overseas shooting makes it feel so epic and I love the stories. Also Capaldi and Clara are amazing this series.

Season 8 was pretty good, it had some major highlights (Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline, etc), but also some serious lowlights (In the Forest of the Night/Kill the Moon).
This first episode really makes it clear how much of a different beast Season 9 was, and in my opinion how it manages to improve all around from Season 8
Clara was my least favorite companion but I'd watch a spin off with her and Missy all day long. I loved how they played off of each other.

In all seriousness, I have a lot of love for these first two episodes. I adore them both - mostly because of Missy, and The Doctor and Davros’ interactions - and I remember watching it live in 2015 and lost my shit at the Davros reveal. Not the best series in my opinion, but there’s definitely some fun to get through!
Fun fact: Peter Capaldi actually used to be the lead singer in a punk rock band, so when he’s shredding on the guitar at 9:15 it’s 100% him!
They said that he didn`t play live when they shot the scene, because he wanted to concentrate in the acting, but it`s him playing the guitar...

Kind of wish they'd actually fleshed out the origin of Davros here as it flits all over the place.
I don’t know why or how, but Series 9 was such a massive improvement on 8 in pretty much every way, so I’m glad that Peter got one good series at least.
I think Series 8 is horribly underrated. Kill the Moon was awful, yes, In the Forest of the Night was pointless (but still enjoyable) and The Caretaker had a weak villain but apart from that I can't fault Series 8. Great character building. And as for Series 10, it's my favourite Series! I'll never understand the hate it got.

2. I thought it was brilliant myself - Extremis was clever and very nicely done, The Pyramid at the End of the World was a great follow-up and The Lie of the Land was also good with a slightly unsatisfying conclusion but still enjoyable. Don't really understand that hate against it.

FINALLY. The best season of DW (my opinion)
Exactly, I consider only one of the episodes to be just ok, but the rest range from pretty good to bloody amazing.
It even features the episode which I consider to be the most underrated episode of the show, so that's a bonus.
This and next weeks episode, are my favourite Capaldi episodes. The acting by the person playing Davros...wow.
