  • We are back in Singapore! We will share how much we spend on day-to-day living in Singapore. We start our day off with a delicious kaya breakfast before heading to our favorite grocery store. We give you a tour of the serviced apartment we are renting. A serviced apartment (or service apartment) is a furnished apartment that you can rent for short- or long-term stays; serviced apartments are fully furnished and often provide typical hotel amenities (housekeeping, front desk services, a fitness center, and ours has a pool. We will show you how we make dinner. Kelly treats Jonathan to the BEST foot massage he has ever had! We end the night with ice cream and one of our favorite TH-cam channels.

    ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in Chennai, India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. We hope our vlogs will inspire you to get out and travel, too!

Hi Alfie, sorry about that rough transition! That's something we'll work to improve. Our family lives in Indonesia full time where we work as teachers in West Papua. We do batch filming during our school breaks. The Philippines was filmed during our winter school break, and Singapore was filmed during our spring school break, nine weeks passed from when we left the Philippines and started filming Singapore. During those 9 weeks in between, we were back in West Papua teaching at our small private school.
Kelly and I are discussing creating "day in our lives" vlogs here in West Papua. Would you have interest in watching something like that?

I was from the Testing industry ~ Singapore control n maintain water networks very stringently.
All fittings are tested for heavy metal content prior to sale. “Gunmetal” fittings is not allowed. All the plastics/rubber parts within are tested for out gassing that assist bacterial growth. The test actual “sealed n locked” parts for 1 month b4/after for bacteria counts. All the water tanks must be washed annually and tested for portability b4 turn on for usage. All plumbers must be certified to held to accountability for buildings projects.
FYI ~ all food, fish, vegetables, fruits are tested for food safety b4 sales. All eating outlets like restaurants/fast food r regularly checked n swiped for food safety checks as internal controls. All food handlers are certified for proper food handling.
There r proper checks n monitors in place ~ however, there r cases where poor/bad practices occured and Gov shut down those places during enforcement. But generally, Singapore food safety is the best ensured in SE Asia.

Cold Storage is notorious for being an expensive supermarket. If you stay Orchard point, you can pick up the same groceries from NTUC Finest at centerpoint (probably 30 plus percent cheaper) and good japanese meat/ groceries from Don Dondoki at Orchard Central which are both closer to Orchard Point than Paragon

When you eat the half boiled eggs, always add a little black sauce, a little pepper. Then stir the eggs. It will taste yummy and you can eat together with the bread.
This is the traditional way of eating for us locals.
If you find your coffee too sweet, tell the server to add less sugar and milk. Our way of drinking here….avoid diabetes.

  • @ragsoh
    @ragsoh ปีที่แล้ว +25

Hi. For the eggs from YaKun, you may want to ask the staff for dark soya sauce + white ground pepper (complimentary). You just drizzle the soya sauce and pepper onto the egg and mix everything up. It will bring the soft-boiled eggs to another level. I enjoyed your video and your children are very beautiful. Good on you.

    KAYA TOAST:-
Kaya Toast is a classic Singaporean breakfast, especially when served alongside a cup of kopi and two soft-boiled eggs. An oldie but goldie. There is good reason for the sustained popularity of such a simple sandwich: the sweet, pandan flavours of kaya (coconut jam), salty pat of butter, and mouthfeel of white bread make quite an irresistible combination. Traditionally, kaya is served on thin, well-toasted slices of bread for a very crunchy, coffee dunk-able bite. However, there are many new renditions of Kaya Toast, usually swapping out the crispy toast for different pieces of bread: steamed, thick toast, french toast, and crackers. You get the gist. A great family doing great vlogging. Love ❤️ how well mannered your kids. Good luck with your wife appointment.

The green color in the kaya jam is from pandan leaves which is like the local version of vanilla. You can taste the pandan taste more prominently in pandan chiffon cake that can be found at local bakeries such as Bengawan Solo cake shop that's in almost every mall in Singapore.

Welcome back guys! I've got a suggestion if you need fresh produce, meat & seafood included, at a much cheaper alternative ($700 at Cold Storage is STEEP! ) which is Tekka wet market and hawker centre. Its in Little India but ya'll need to travel a little bit. Maybe from your apartment you can walk to Dhoby Ghaut and take the NEL (purple line) train to Little India but with all the groceries ya'll can take a family Grab car or cab back to the apartment. The wet market opens in the mornings only but the hawker centre shld be open till late afternoon. Else, 111 Somerset has a small NTUC or alternatively a further walk away at Takashimaya, also has a supermarket at the basement. Orchard Central has DonDonki for anything Japanese if you need any.
I hope Kelly goes through a smooth procedure and may she have a quick recovery!

We love air bnb. During Covid lockdown we had staycations at local (under 3 hours drive from Sydney) airbnb since we couldn’t go overseas. We booked some beachfront mansion or houses with own jetty. It was around $1200 per day, not expensive when there were three couples to share. Also stayed in airbnb in Hongkong. Nice apartment at convenient locations. No more hotels for us when travelling.

Correction. Singapore Tap water is the safest in World. Singapore's tap water is well within international guidelines set by the World Health Organisation, as well as the United States Environmental Protection Agency's drinking water standards. It is suitable for drinking without further filtration or boiling. It is treated with chlorine, fluoride and sodium hydroxide as a disinfectant which are added at the point of production. However, you can always boil or treat the water with ease of mind.
