Chrysler Out - Stellantis In - What this Means for the Company + My Thoughts on the FCA/PSA Merger

- Today we are taking a look at Stellantis, the new name for the merged company between FCA and Groupe PSA. We will cover what this name means, if it makes senses, and the merger benefits and downsides for each company going forward. Only time will tell how this one turns out, and hopefully it's not another failure like DaimlerChrysler!

Well if they replace the charger and challenger with trash econo box cars I’m moving to Genesis or BMW.
I feel you there!
I agree I still love dodge
I don't think they would do that, they would eliminate all of the fan base customers that come back for newer dodge models. If they do it would be a dumb move.
007 you didn’t complain about the dodge name under fiat, so why is stellantis a problem now?
Joskj j nobody said it was a problem just don’t replace Mopar most prized proposition with 4 cylinder $hitboxes just to complete GM and Toyota. If they do name they something else other then challenger or charger.
Hopefully this will lead to Chrysler having some cars on the showroom floor even if it's a rebadged ones
Very true hadn’t thought of that! They definitely need a bigger/better lineup not sure why they haven’t already acted on it

Who really buys chrysler products there whole line up is trash jeep n dodge
I'm scared... I hope they will keep the Chrysler marque. Hopefully reviving it as the semi-luxury American brand it was once known for. Not just the 'people mover' strategy. It just doesn't fit Chrysler.
Tavares once said he wanted to keep all of the brands because of their history and strengths. Let's hope he sticks to what he said.
I think that the "people mover" marketing strategy is an FCA idea , hopefully PSA would be smart enough to understand What Chysler historically means to the American/ Mopar consumer customer but that's just "hope" on my part.

Changing the widely known Chrysler is a huge mistake & will cost them sales in America.
It hasn't been known as Chrysler since the Fiat merger: Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). The car brand isn't changing, just the conglomerate name.

If Peugeot is coming back to the United States why can't they just sell their cars at the Fiat dealership? The Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram dealer is already full enough it's just going to create more confusion for some.
They sell fiats in dodge dealerships already there's no room for this french crap to fit on the lot because fca can't sell their garbage. The only thing selling is ram and that's because of its engine options
Fiat is sold at the regular dealerships as well but that brand is being phased out of North America so it’s basically not here anymore. Not sure how they would fit the Peugeot in the already packed dealerships but that’s still a long ways away if they fully commit to coming back to the US (2026?)

The whole PSA group has streamlined the business really well in the last 5 years, impressively they maintained a profit for Q1&2 2020. I'm a long time Peugeot/Citroen driver (AX, 205 Gti, 306 S16, 206 Gti, and e-208) and really want to see the brands grow and the current design language at Peugeot is awesome.
I can see the PSA/FCA merger being used by PSA to increase buying power for new tech like batteries/motors, with products based on shared platforms like PSA have done with the PSA EMP1 platform (208/corsa/C4/DS3) recently. Europe will be EV focused going forward and that transition will require a lot of retooling and rethinking, shared R&D is the only way companies will survive.
The USA will be slower to mass EV adoption, but like it or not the market share of Internal Combustion engines will fall off a cliff in the next 10 years, the use of current PSA technology like the upcoming eVMP electric platform will be important for FCA in the future.
Well said..
They even made Opel profitable.

No, the shittiest merger was DaimlerChrysler, when Daimler sucked money from Chrysler.

HSV Commodore thanks . I work Infor Psa since 1985 and I love my company

I work in PSA. If you remember, Opel was a GM trade that has been losing money since 2000. In one year after PSA bought it, Opel stopped to lost money.I hope that the FCA PSA merging will also be positive. win win situation ,
Itt stopped losing money because they closed their r&d and the new cars are designed by Peugeot 🤣🤣
It is one goal when merging ... but one question why lost money during 17 years ? How do the others.? French know-how or poor GM management?
@@neospartan2816 i guess because Opel was a proper carmaker, they developed diesel engine and other things for the entire GM. This mixed up with bad GM management.
To me it screams desperation, when Lee Iacocca brought Chrysler back from the brink of collapse and retired in the mid 90's Chrysler didn't heed his advice and went with the ACQUISITION of Daimler, THAT WAS NO "MERGER." Then when they were spun off and sold to Cerberus capital, they were treading water afterward, then the combined UAW pension fiasco and economic downturn forced them to "merge" with Fiat. Afterwards they started to make strides in making a comeback with Jeep, truck sales and the LX/LD platform giving them some much needed capital. But they lagged behind in development( the current Charger design is almost 10 years old!) Fiat really is just the Italian counterpart to Chrysler in the sense that they know how to make cars LOOK good, but fail in reliability for the most part. Now they're being BOUGHT AGAIN for the FOURTH TIME IN 22 YEARS!!! That's excluding the Mitsubishi merger and government bailouts it's incurred TWICE now and the full acquisition of Chrysler(PSA bought Chrysler Europe back in the 1960's for literally $1)to me there has been one major constant for their troubles for the past 70 Years(excluding Lee Iacocca of course) SHITTY EXECUTIVES/MANAGEMENT!
I believe Chrysler would benefit from German engineering/Opal but I think they should leave American Dodge, Ram to Americans to design/engineer unless they want the brand to die completely.. Europeans are great at making man handbags not muscle cars or pickup trucks
I hope the Challanger and Charger stay around.
George Harley Rider im going to get one of them soon before this all goes under and the value of those cars skyrocket.
Those aren't going anywhere. Same with what my plant makes, the Grand Cherokee and Durango.
They will become a cheap french car
@@jeancadet5862 Peugeot is not cheap honestly in Europe. Citroën is.
I really hope they can use the new platforms and update the Charger, Challenger and maybe 300. Their platform is sooooo old and it would give them a better fight against Mustang (Since the Camaro is more or less dead at this point)
@Slab Rat not according to overall sales. The challenger was outselling it at the end of last year but was to far behind at that point. Believe me I would love for it to sell more than fhe mustang
@Slab Rat o yeah I woukd take performance of dodge any day.
Id actually take a charger or challenher over mustang any day regardless. But still having a 15 year old platform for the LAST merger that failed is a giant issue
they will get new plateforme from PSA and FCA for sure !
@JaMarcus T those dont compete with Charger. The charger is a full sized sedan. Since ford killed they taurus they dont really hace a competitor. The mach e is an SUV. And the GT is a super car. Unless I am misreading the comment.
@JaMarcus T ford got rid of their entire car lineup in america besides the mustang amd I believe the focus. Same with Chevy. Chrysler was one of the only domestic brands still selling sedans in the charger and 300( thats on borrowed time though.)
As far as the merger goes, I have my reservations as well.
A lot of people seem to think that changing the corporate name means that the individual marques are going, too. The new name, while far from great, does not put any of the individual brands above the others, which makes sense considering how many they have.
I just hope Chrysler's reliability goes up because I love the style
Never had any trouble with the Chrysler vehicles I’ve owned over the years. GM, though, have been nothing but trouble for me in both reliability and customer service to the point where I will never buy another one.
When the Dodge Ram, suddenly became a Ram, with no Dodge in its name, I questioned what was up at that time. It was like they were selling off different lines.
Cutting costs to Chrysler... that’s gonna end well 😂😂😂
That "Merger of Equals" statement shouldn't have been dug from the grave.
Lexacocca just wait, they’ll be dead in a few years. Someone is going to have to bail them out and reorganize them again.... the cycle goes on.
im feeling british leyland vibes
You need 3 working days/week to do that
Well this ain't like BL, this merger has amazing brands liek Peugeot and Citroen
@@bluruckuscrx8124 Yes with modern styling, platforms, engines and drivetrains. British Leyland’s technology mostly dated back from the 1950’s and 60’s and they were still using it in the 80s/90s.
I have my doubts , really don't want to see European influence on my beloved Mopar Fiats influence on the Chrysler 200 didn't work out too well .
Yeah, but the 300, Charger and Challenger are still running on ancient Mercedes platforms. And the 200 was a nice car, save for the transmission. But a problematic transmission in a contracting segment aren't going to win you sales.
What's funny is that to someone who has lived in Europe (like me) it looks very American!
@@kugul1683 Fun fact, the 200's low cowl was a talking point at launch, they specifically said it would only ever be sold in North America so they deliberately chose to ignore EU pedestrian-impact standards allowing a lower cowl than if it were EU-compliant.
Second gen 200 (2014-2016) was actually a very good car, looked a lot better than previous 200. It also had optional white leather + wood luxury interior made in a very good Italian taste (similar to Giulia with wood and leather package). You could also order it with very nice blue color and beautiful bigger wheels. Sadly most of 200s were ordered with ordinary black plastic interior, boring color and boring wheels. Additionaly german company ZF made mistakes while designing this infamous 9 speed gearbox that Chrysler put in 200, which ultimately killed it, along with the SUV trend. But interior and exterior is flawless for me, if we talk about versions with black grille and optional Luxury Interior.
@@seed_drill7135 The "shifty" transmission complaint is subjective, most didn't notice it and it could be tweaked with software update, and they kept the SUV part of that platform. I think most automakers are staying up late trying to figure out the costs factors of hybrids and EVs - which are being forced by upcoming regulations more than consumer demand. EV battery tech in 2020 is not for the majority and hybrids don't produce as great of results on the larger vehicles that Americans prefer. Toyota Prius is finally a good looking car and its locked that segment but its actually steadily declining in sales - that must leave Fiat Chrysler scratching their heads as what to do. Now that Corolla has a hybrid some recent Prius losses may be going there.

Jeep Dodge and Ram should just leave and do their own thing. I don’t trust this. Just have Mopar and SRT do everything and let the three of them flourish

When alone they have gone bankrupt soo many times. Why Fiat should sell them? Also, Jeep has increased as hell their sales under Fiat management
1957 was the last year for Chrysler Corporation for a good year, and beginning for 1958, Chrysler Corporation sold less then half of cars then in 1957, especially DeSoto which dropped more then two-third of their units. For example: 1957 DeSoto sold about 120,000 cars and in 1958, they make no more then 40,000 DeSoto cars. I do missed many brands before I was born. The old brands are: Essex, Franklin, Graham-Paige, Hudson, Kaiser, Mormon, Nash, Oakland, Packard, Pierce Arrow, Rambler, Studebaker, Terraplane, and Willys (passenger cars). @@i.sebastianpuente5796 nice try .. no context response. Waymo is one most advanced driving automation companies on the planet with fully autonomous vehicles already in it fleet. And the new Bsized E platform from FCA make PSA plopping a battery under the seat solution look a decade old. The merger has merit based on size need to compete and changes in the EU market. The new company name sounds like a failed 1980 car brand. It does not have the feel of solidity like saying Chrysler or saying FCA. I think PFA would work. Just even saying that they are removing the name Chrysler instantly makes the company truly feel foreign .
I feel if Chrysler made suvs they’d do much better in sales. But they have to do better instead of a rebadged and slightly tweaked Durango. If they brought back the aspen but made it better to compete with cars like the telluride, palisade traverse and enclave and brought back a mid size suv to compete with cars like the explore, pilot it’d be nice. But that depends on how where they choose to put the money

But most of the jeeps are a train wreck.
Coming from a long line of Chrysler workers and a few Fords , I think Dodge, Chrysler, Ram are just about finished.
I have a feeling the Chrysler brand is going to come to an end soon. They’ll keep Dodge, Jeep, and Ram. If they discontinue any of the Dodge vehicles, particularly the Charger/Challenger that brand will die next. It’s sad, Chrysler has always made some of the best looking vehicles out there. The unfortunate part is that they are the most unreliable/problematic cars ever built.

I just hope Dodge stays the same
For the past couple decades Chrysler has been the automotive equivalent of a bowl of room temperature plain oatmeal. Jeep and the aging Dodge Charger and Challenger and fiats are basically the only highlights of their US offerings. I think anything that might give Chrysler a jolt is a good idea
wow, what a shame,,,, in all of my 57 yrs of life, I've never owned a "Dodge, chrysler, plymouth. Now, I'll never be able to...... unless I buy an old classic
Well that's my plan. I will not buy a "rebadged" Mopar. I'll stick with the real deal older Chrysler products.
You're wrong. Stellantis will be used exclusively as a corporate brand, while the names and logos of the group's constituent brands (including Dodge and Chrysler) will remain unchanged following completion of the merger agreement.
You would never want to “own” a Chrysler product nowadays. Just lease it, get it out of your system, and turn it back in before the problems start.
@@franklinlee2868 well take care of the damn car first lol
The end of enthusiast brand dodge is here. We get only 3 piston turbo engine that will Last 50000 Miles at Best. Rip dodge, Rip alfa, Rip opel. Good brands fucked up by merges. They Will be remembered in honor.
I just want Dodge to come out with a 12 speed automatic to one up Ford & Chevy.
The 8-speed is better than the 10 speed.
@@vehicleheightrestriction The ZF is nice the 10 speed is probably better IMO... At least Ford/GM can still design things on their own lol
@@FusionBoost2.0 I've driven the 10 speed in both Ford and Chevy products (Camaro, Mustang and F-150.) In the camaro it's great, but for some reason I find it very jerky in the Mustang i-4 and V8. I personally haven't had any issue with the F-150. I shuttle cars for a rental car company.
And I don't care which company makes the transmissions as long as its reliable, lol
@@FusionBoost2.0 and they still look like shit lol
One other thing, it's true the CEO has more operative power, but John Elkam is Fiat President (Exor) which is also the major shareholder, so he is the one that can sack the CEO.
I see them axing the Chrysler brand. They've been letting it die a slow painful death and at this point I don't think I'd miss them. Same goes for Dodge. I wish it wasn't true but they both have the oldest, most stale lineup in the auto industry. That's not too say they can't still turn around and maybe now doing that would be more cost effective with the merger but I'm not holding my breath.
i disagree wuth that at least they not dicking riding every company going all electric discontinuing there best cars or making ugly ass cars lol
When you get more information can you do a video on the new dodge pursuit vehicles
I was looking into it, maybe I can do an overview of all 3 (Ram, Durango, Charger)
GM sold off OPEL???
Scott Campbell in 2017
Scott Campbell Opel has been losing money since 2000. Peugeot bought Opel in 2017. In one year, Opel became profitable. French know-how or poor management of Gm?
So what’s this going to mean for the next gen charger and challenger, are they still talking about that Maserati platform thing?
Giorgio Global Is Fully Prepped For Stellantis Future Battery Electric ⚡️ 🔋And Electricfied ⚡️Vehicles.
First thing, put the name Dodge, back on the pickup truck. How do you have a truck that uses all other companies power trains? I don't even want another ram right now, if it ain't a Dodge.
I think a "lifestyle" compact pickup could be a Dodge
I agree. I thought it was a bad decision when they got rid of the "Dodge Trucks" division.
I want the torsion bars and leaf springs back don't need struts and all that garbage for a suspension system I want the brake pedal and gas pedal to be back at the same height as they used to be I like to see a nice elegant Hood instead of looking at windshield wipers meaning the road if I think of more I'll say it
PSA design and build little FWD eco thrashers for crowded euro cities. In Australia, we don’t care for their products. Rather buy V8 with RWD.
I love horror movies but ... after watching this video, the thought of no more HEMI engines...I think I’m actually really ‘SCARED’ !!🙁😣
I am a die hard FCA and HEMI fan and I just hope these legendary engines don't get forgotten
I really don’t have a good feeling about this, history has shown us that mergers just don’t work, one company usually disappears with these mergers, one company will always vie for total control.
That's true except when Maxwell became Chrysler and merged with Dodge. I do think Dodge seemed to compete with Plymouth as much as with GM and Ford.
Chrysler/Dodge has been lucky with rescues by mergers and bailouts. They are starting to run out of their nine lives.
@@i.sebastianpuente5796 The Fiat merger wasn't a rescue. Fiat abandoned the U.S. market earlier this year.
Well we have the body style we want. We can just mod from here anyway. Swap motors or whatever. Once my kids take my two Daytonas I'll find another one for me, same years.
No American who respects Chrysler will like this I think it will likely fail again
Daniel Ross Aside from JEEP, Chrysler is already failing. FCA needs PSA. Not the other way around.
It’s a shame that GM and Ford are going to be the only American cars
I bet the doge brother's never imagine this would happen. And Chrysler would flip in his grave.
I have to agree, I am a pretty big fan of Dodge, but I am a bigger fan of American cars. I hate that the company is going to be even more European.
Also dont forget lee Iacocca
@@dts3747 yes Sir.....
When Walter Chrysler died in 1940, Chrysler Corp was the #2 car company.
@@bill90405 I would love to have a big wide and long Chrysler.
Improved technology and improved quality are what FCA needs, which will come from PSA. Another positive will be FCA's European brands improving sales in the European market.
But we shall see if this will be a success, which I hope it will be.
Magical thinking will not make this work..
Dont take stellantis without consulting your doctor!
The lost cars of Stellantis, my girlfriend gave me a good dose of Stellantis. STELLA STELLA.
A street car named stellantis.
Chrysler will be out of business now
Tony P They are already headed down the tubes. PSA will bring much needed money and technology, which FCA has been struggling with for quite awhile. Remember Fiat saved Chrysler/Dodge.
@@i.sebastianpuente5796 it's sad but your correct. Guess that's why my 2006 Unlimited Rubicon Jeep Wrangler is worth so much. 🙂
Very good video as usual. I am sure that the merger will be very successful in the business mainly because both companies have an experience in mergers and do have good products.
I have always heard it pronounced Poo show
I thought it was Pew-gots 😂😂 Just kidding folks.
good lord. does this remind anyone else of British Leyland? The idea that you can just merge tons of small companies into one, to reduce costs overall. you end up with divisions competing with one another, people leaving the company, etc. etc. The whole company gets rotted out. Not saying i want this to happen, but it just doesn't seem like Chrysler products are long for this world. Too bad Daimler had to ruin them in the 00's, they'd probably still be going strong.
Yeah, blame Daimler. Chrysler didn't make crappy cars in the 90s. Those 90s and 80s cars are still on the road, next to Camrys and civics. Chrysler was never a failing company.
I can see it now breaking news PSA replaces the Dodge Hellcat engine with a new 1.4 L turbo engine that gets you 100 horsepower because it's eco-friendly🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
MR AUTOMOTIVE they won’t do that
Did fiat put a tiny fiat 4 cylinder in the charger? No So why do you think psa will do it?
@@joskjj3625 the reason being a lot of Italian cars they like smaller engines Plus in his video he stated that they're looking to be cost-effective when you make 4-cylinder engines is actually better profit when you make V8 engines it cost more money to produce them so they definitely have to sell a lot of these companies now are looking to push more 4 cylinder engines with turbos
@@joskjj3625 also remember if you watch this guy's videos the original Dodge Dart was a 2.0 engine that pushed out 600 horsepower now remember Mercedes has a 4-cylinder Turbo AMG for the CLA that pushes out 500 horsepower so you get the point when I'm saying
EMP2 1.6 hybrid 320 hp 1 gallonj/100 miles :)
@@didierlemoine6771 😂👏👏
i know its a long shot but hope this means that Dodge and Chrysler will get a better line up like they have. They had everything from a compact, mid size and full size cars. And some hopped up versions like SRT4. I liked the Mistubishi -Chrysler car era
The Europeans have no clue how to build a car that people in America like Walter P is rolling over in his grave
You're right I never see any Volkswagens, Minis, BMW's, Audi's, Mercedes, Bentley's, Land Rover's, on the road that Americans like.
The americans cant build a car that anyone in the world buys
@@DerrickOil minis. Now there's a real automotive bargin . VW is an unreliable brand. BMW is way overpriced and loses retail value like a motor home. Yeah. Those shitty euro cars.
It would be cool to see PSA's vehicles in the USA along with the ones we're used to seeing
A Day In The Life of Richie Gillham Agree. What won’t work is Chrysler/Dodge vehicles rebadged as Peugeot’s, DS, etc. Surprisingly, Chrysler/Dodge technology is not up to snuff for PSA brands. Chrysler/Dodge products sold in Europe as Lancias were a complete failure.
SIDE EFFECTS OF STELLANTIS COULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: POOR BUILD QUALITY, POOR RESALE VALUE, UNRELIABILITY AND CONSTANT NICKLE AND DIMING YOU(POSSIBLY TO DEATH) PLEASE CONSULT A PRIOR CHRYSLER OWNER BEFORE BUYING STELLANTIS !! THANK YOU AND HAVE A NICE DAY.
I usually mute or fast forward skip psa's more weird headlights taillights coming. I'd buy a no frills small 4x4 4 cylinder Cummins powered pickup $19,995
Most important to NA market is Jeep and Ram trucks. Maybe a Charger for halo effect, but hardly anybody buys them.
Oh no, not, can it be the dreaded “R” word that Lee got rid of in America. Renault?!?!!!!! Peugeot isn’t that bad, just not overly as popular. I hate our one of the big three has been done in, AGAIN! I own two Chrysler products presently, but, the only GM product I’ll ride in is a big black Cadillac to be buried. Just an ole 75 Y/o day dreaming.
Lmao peugeot is not popular in the us in Europe peugeot is extremely loved
