3 months after getting these, I am very happy with the sound, got 2.5 inch in and 4 inch out duel cannon mufflers, sounds quiet at idle and very quiet drone but sounds great at around 3k rpm

fishgaff Johno how good is this engine compare to other subarus engines ? Is the ez30 the slowest engine or it can become a decent platform to build on?
Jake Kolasinski the 3.0r is basically bulletproof. They use timing chains instead of a belt so no worries there. I had an 05 outback 3.0r and loved it. Wish i never got rid of it.
I know this way late, but the 3.0r's do blow their head gaskets around 200k miles. I have had it happen to me, and know two friends that also had theirs blow up as well.

Completely stock the SV6 would probably win, but in terms of torque and weight I'd say the EZ30 would hold up fine. ECU tune, exhaust and maybe headers and the EZ30 would destroy the SV6 on the track I imagine. If I had to choose between a tuned up SV6 or tuned up EZ30, I would probably take the EZ30.

They both technically an ez30d. But the later model engine which has a better intake manifold and slightly improved exhaust manifolds as well as variable valve and lift control is often called the ez30r. Cause the legacy it comes from is called the 3.0 r

I have a 2004 EZ30D Outback with the axle back muffler removed.
I removed my rear muffler as well and it sounds amazing!!!
