Truly the end of an era. She was part of, I think, the best generation of British actors and a true star.
Pinnacle of a Long list of Legendary British Actresses. May You Rest in Peace , you've Earned it, & My Sincere Condolences to Her Family & Friends .
Absolutely
The Prime of Miss Jean Brady, Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, The Lady In The Van…..fabulous actress and not a diva as so many of the untalented ones are these days. Loved her work. RIP lovely lady, you will be missed

🎉hard to think she was born when the UK was majority white and we had a few refugees from eastern Europe here and from around our colonies but nothing like it is today. I bet the people in Westminster today can't wait for people to die from that era or those who can remember the UK before 1989 and Thatcher and the European union today.

Not sad. She was 89. Let us just look back with admiration, fondness and love.
You’re upset cause someone who spent their entire life “pretending” has died? Weird or what
@@ClactonCuun Dear-o-Dear. Why did you bother ? Maggie, along with other actors and actresses learnt the lines and played the parts but they also lived real lives with friends and relations, loved and were loved, in Maggie's case, by millions. You were a true legend, one of the finest actors I've ever known. Harry Potter series will always be closest to my heart, and you were an integral part it. And Dowager Countess's one liners in Downtown Abbey changed my whole perspective about life. You'll be sorely missed. Love from India.😊❣️
Oh this one hits my heart differently. She was and is absolutely iconic and irreplaceable. She has left a mark on the world and in the hearts of so many people. I have choked up ...
First saw Maggie Smith in 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' in the very early 70s ...
At the (then) very elegant Regent Cinema .. in Adelaide, South Australia ...
The entire experience is etched on my memory. The cinema. The film. MAGGIE.
Saw her on stage in London in the 80s ... 'Interpreters'. WOW!
'Downtown Abbey' all the more binge-worthy .. for her.
Have truly enjoyed her wonderful performances.

This notification has made me so very sad. Maggie Smith has been one of my most favourite actresses - her name in a movie of tv show was enough to convince me to watch.
RIP ❤ from Scotland 🕯
What a great lady: Lovey sense of humour, beautiful dry wit, and superb delivery when she spoke. Ithink one of last perforamnces was in the two-part TV drama (if I can remember the proper title) "The Best Marigold Hotel." here, as with all of her performances, she played the role of the elderly matriarch looking to spend her final years in some sort of Indian luxury, seemingly having a distaste of everything and everybody, but actually someone who cared for everything and everbody but not showing it. Her peformance was truly endearing. I loved the show so much I watched both episodes twice and would watch it adain if it came on TH-cam. There is no doubt she will be very much missed.
