Shimmering, metallic, slicing, pounding, DEEP 80s Rush greatness! I could hang around in the 80s Rush decade for quite some time... Thanks for watching! 🥰
First time for me, what a great sound from masters of Canadian music.
Awesome that these 2 were new for you too Reinaldo! Thanks for stopping by...
This is the album that got me into rush, I was 13 at the time, love all the songs on power windows
Wow, can't imagine hearing this at 13. You must have been blown away! Thanks for watching Nathan...
@retroreactions.... I was yes totally blown away, your welcome keep the great reactions coming
@@nathancrawley4149 - This had been the _second_ Rush album for me, in '89 and after 'Grace Under Pressure', and my very first reaction to it was "Over-produced!", as the keys were so much more prominent by comparison.
I did eventually grow to like it a lot, but I admit the last three songs (which include _these_ two) have always been a bit 'meh' to me musically 😅
I also reckon Geddy's vocals were at their absolute peak on the two albums I mentioned 😍
Best band...ever.
Mystic Rhythms has such a dreamy quality to it.
Fantastic!
PS...Love The Lyrics to this Track.
So Matches The Music.

in my opinion one of the best rush song - I'm talking about mystic rhythms - great reactions brandon
M.R. is STELLAR! Such a huge pleasure to experience that one today....Thank you so much and thanks for tuning in 😎
GREAT SONGS !!!!!!! Middletown dreams is one of my favourites and is a great following song to Subdivisions in my view !!!
Such unique grooves, with each part doing something fantastic that happens to blend perfectly with the others…amazing.
I love Power Windows, and I see it as Rush's last truly classic album. Thanks for these. 🙃
Sweet! Glad you love this album. You're very welcome and thank YOU! 🧐
As I'm typing this, I'm looking forward to an upcoming trip to see the "Mystic Rhythms, under northern lights" in northwestern Canada, and seeing a perfect example of how a simple natural phenomenon can have the power to transform us. Have a beautiful evening, and Rush on!

Geddy: "'Power Windows' was very much an album that was out of that whole Trevor Horn school. We brought in this synthesizer guy, Andy Richards, who really brought it up a notch in terms of quality and technology. This was very attractive to me, because it was new and fresh and exciting... And I really like the sound of that album. I thought it was a really strong production. There are some great songs on that record... I thought 'Power Windows' was a great accomplishment for us."
Thanks for the info! So happy that's Geddy's opinion of the album. And thanks for watching!
@@retroreactions.... You're welcome. Awesome album and reactions.
Guarantee you will LOVE every song on this record. 80's greatness personified! Get ready for some of Alex's best solo work on songs like The Big Money, Marathon, and Emotion Detector.
‘Power Windows’: Rush Expand Their Sound
One of Rush’s richest and deepest albums, it’s full of details that reward multiple listens.
"Power Windows" is a concept album, and Peart’s lyrics play with the title by making each song a “window” into a different type of power: Political, social, nuclear, and in a couple of songs, the power of dreams and the unconscious... “Middletown Dreams” is a more optimistic sequel to the earlier hit “Subdivisions,” and proposes an escape route: If the suburbs are too stifling, you can always dream your way out... “Mystic Rhythms” borrows African rhythms, but this time the music is slow and mysterious, as fits a song about unconscious power. It was also one of the most richly melodic things Rush had done yet, with Lee’s vocal evincing strength and subtlety. - Excerpts from uDiscover Music
GREAT info. Helps me understand the album and concept much better...thanks...🙂
@@retroreactions.... No problem 😎
Power Windows is nothing but platinum.
What an awesome ride these 2 were. Excited for the rest of the album! I mean Rush is already superb, but add all the keyboard excellence and you can't lose! Thanks for watching and for being first today! 🥇
@@retroreactions....Grace Under Pressure was my first Rush concert. I missed the Power Windows tour. But I was at the rest of them except Roll The Bones, Counterparts, and the last tour. I thought I would never see Middletown Dreams performed. But what a surprise they played it at the Clockwork Angels tour, and it's on the DVD. I never saw Mystic Rhythms live.
So cool first off that you saw them live multiple times, then that you saw MD live!
I love your background, Brandon! It goes so well with "Mystic Rhythms" especially. I imagine being outside on a frosty night, gazing up at the heavens, and enjoying the splendor of the universe.
Exactly, I loved that image too! Divine and fit the song perfectly....thanks bud!
I like 80's Rush. Again, the amazing sounds, that just 3 guys can make. It's mind blowing. I heard shades of The Police. Or maybe that was just the sound back then. Great Video!!
Good evening this time! Mind blowing for sure... Ah yes, now I can hear The Police. Probably due to the guitar tones and stabs/chord deliveries, and maybe some of the melodies...Thank you and enjoy your night 🌝
Yes!! Really great video. And you delivered on the early part. So, Thank You! You enjoy your night as well.🙂💙🎵🎶🎶
I’ve not heard these in quite a while, as I was way more into 70’s Rush, and didn’t give these mid 80’s albums enough love. Power Windows is a great album, as are all of their albums! It’s fun to hear the evolution of their music from those earlier days into the 2000’s.
Nice that you could revisit both today! Yes, I'm loving this "middle stage" of their evolution for sure...time for disco tomorrow 😮😁
It's refreshing to see the bands "middle child" get so much love for a song from this era. I mean, the Professor didn't even get mentioned until the 2nd song. (Of course, it is his drum part that drive the entire piece and his lyrics are the frosting on top.)
Power Windows and Hold Your Fire are very underappreciated albums.
MR was the theme to the NBC news program called 1986 back in 86.
Mystic Rhythms has bits of Geddy Funk in there. :) One of my all time favorites.
80's Rush is the best Permanent waves to Presto !!!
Hi Brandon,
Power Windows is My favourite Rush CD.
Marathon, is a great Track.
Big Money, also.
Thanks 😊
Ronnie
SCOTLAND
Hi. Glad you're a fan of this album! Superb indeed. You're welcome, have a great night, see you soon!
@@retroreactions.... If you're going to react to Marathon, do the live version on A Show Of Hands video. Anytime you have the opportunity to see concert films, especially Rush, you should watch them perform all this stuff.
Brandon, another great reaction! Great to see your appreciation for these!! And "Mystic Rhythms" is one of my favs!!!
Happy Birthday Alex!!!!!
High school memories. 1985 produced so many great album, this at or near the top of them. Great reaction !
Oh the amount of ICONIC music in the 80s....😌 This fits right in! Thanks so much for the compliment and thanks for watching!
I love '80's music in general, and so naturally I love '80s Rush! I also think Geddy's voice reached its peak in the '80s, in terms of it being especially melodic. Have you heard the live version of 'Mission' from 1988 in Birmingham yet? It's one of their best '80s songs and live performances, in my opinion, and it features an especially powerful and emotional guitar solo by Alex at the end.
From this album I always recommend the song "Marathon", although every song from this album is top notch. Great production and arrangements.
My dismounted Rushorse stayed in the paddock for years circa Power Windows and that red LP. Ah, hold your fire! Was i sophisticated enough for it ? Or was it just too dense?
Jury's still out.
Live versions opened the paddock gate - but i was elsewhere at the time. .with Associates' "Party Fears Two" and The Triffids on a "Wide Open Road". Not forgettin "A Walk across the Rooftops" eh Brandon?
Best audio listen to these songs ever. I'm gonna have to re-evaluate! Diolch 😊
Always loved this Rush power windows area, power prog rock meets synth arrangements. When I listen again to details it is shining, Geedy's voice is perfect, melodic not so high pitched. Very good Alex Life son guitar riffs, and also a great recording quality, music that were made to be listened and enjoyed. It's always a pleasure to hear again! I remembered more "Mystical Rythm" than "Middletown dreams" , in fact they are both great. Recognized these typical PPG wave digital sampled sounds that were so fashion then 😉 Next album also "Hold your fire" have these same kind of moods.
Territories is my favorite from Power Windows
