No innocent workers on the oil rigs- because they were not functioning oil rigs, but solely being used as floating Iranian military bases as was explained in the first mention of them in the story. Then, even though everyone was Iranian military, the task group still gave them a warning to evacuate.

20:25 Listen the Soviet military definitely knew how to party. Especially the Navy! This was not the first time, nor will it be the last time a Soviet or Russian ship said “mind if I watch” 😂

I love the explanation I heard for why the groups were Bravo, Charlie, and Delta, instead of Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie.
Those names were chosen because ON THE CHANCE that the enemy found out the names of the groups attacking them, they would make the logical conclusion of “B…C…D…shit, there must be an A! Look for the fourth group!” and would end up wasting their time chasing a group of ships that don’t exist.🤣

The Soviet Destroyer's response was fairly common. They almost always had some kind of ship observing any US or NATO Naval action to gain intellegence, and the US and NATO did the same thing right back at the Soviets and Warsaw Pact. It was just part of the "Great Game" of the Cold War.

Brentwood Accords: US provided free trade worldwide, even for its enemies, instead of creating an empire post WW2. The vast majority of oil has not gone to the US, but to developing countries. The US has guaranteed free trade to the world. I’m looking forward to the US pulling back, I’m sure things will be better.

After 1945, the USA had to guarantee oil flows from the Persian Gulf to keep Europe and East Asia in their coalition against the Soviets. The USA also agreed to use its navy to patrol all the world’s oceans, and they needed extra oil to fuel the ships.

The tanker escort mission was called Operation Earnest Will. When we would enter or leave the gulf through the Straits of Hormuz, Iran would light us up with their Silkworm missile radars. And steaming around in mined waters is rather nerve-racking.
I was on the USS Merrill (DD-976), SAG B, during this engagement. We wound up doing all the shooting on the Sassan oil platform because Lynde B. McCormick's gun had dropped sync and was "walking" and they couldn't fix it in time.
After the engagement we had a joke: How does the Ayatollah inspect his fleet... Glass Bottomed boat.
The Soviet Udaloy destroyer was gathering intel.
A few details wrong, but it doesn't detract from the story and NO ONE gets ALL the details right.. I love Nic's presentation. I've seen most of his videos and they are awesome.

Its not always "America wants oil" America has plenty of oil. Its that America doesn't want countries like Iran and Iraq using oil as blackmail like Russia tried. Things people forget in Iraq for example, it was "war for oil". France held most of the drilling right to Iraq through arms deals the issue was Sadaam commiting genocide on the Kurds and invading Kuwait, an ally of America, whom we defended as such.

It’s not surprising that the frigate was repaired and reused. Of the eight battleships sunk at Pearl Harbor by Japan five were refloated and put back in service, which was a surprise to Japan. They had based their plans on having those ships gone so they wouldn’t have to contend with them.

The Fat Electrician covers where our rage at people "touching" our boats came from - The Barbary Pirates. It was just after the creation of the USA, and it's the reason we created the Navy AND the Marines. In every reaction but this one, I saw in the comments people talking about," Whatever you do, DON'T touch their boats." Where the Japanese said not to touch our boats, because we dropped the SUN on them, twice. And so on. And about proportions, 1:1 is a proportion, as is 2:1, 10:1, so on
