Great video, thanks. Lots of inflatable pads do not leak air, and come with a repair kit in case of puncture. They provide the most cushion and insulation, weight very little and when deflated take up very little space.
Put a Gore-Tex Bivy Cover over that mummy bag and you have a water proof, wind proof option that can be both tent and backpack in a backpacking situation. The Gore-Tex Bivy Cover can be found for around $30 on eBay.
Actually, we do not use rucksacks. The capacity of a rucksack would be sufficient for 1-3 days, and not the 5-10 days that usually encompass our high adventure trips. Carrying all your gear and food for such a adventure (typically 50-100 miles) is hardly "soft". Thanks for the comments, but please check out some of the things that Scouts are currently doing (Philmont, Northern Tier, Sea Base, Bechtel Summit, and MANY others).
hey I'm in boy scout troop 82 and i have seen you guys a lot your boys are quite considerate and kind from the two times i have been directly across from them at barndhart
There is no blade length set at all the rule is. The knife closed must not be bigger then your plam from the tip of your middle finger to the bottom of your palm. But in some places like here in Alaska you can use a fixed blade.
I joined into cub scouts a year or two ago and now I’m in Boy Scouts my scout master let me have a spring action pocket knife because it’s what I have (btw he has the exact knife but his is a different color) I am in troop 183 in IN.
Maybe in your troop but there is no requirement in Scouting that the blade be shorter than 3 and half inches. Scouts in our troop use fixed blade knives.
I appreciate this great video introduction for new Scout parents. Please consider staying on track with your intro. The "ten essentials" list you showed does not include the backpack, the sleeping bag, or the sleeping pad.
Man, that is some heavy stuff. You might want to look into light weight camping gear unless you’re a bumper camper unit. Our boys pack including all equipment: pack pad tent bag and essentials only weigh 20-26 pounds. Yours must be in the 40# range. How can they hike far like that? It’d be cruel. We hike the Grand Canyon in 5 days, you’d take ten.
ya know ive harder camping trips in my back yard. join CAP if you really wanna do good. we do SAR, FTX, ranger school, learn how to fly gliders, cessnas, helicopters, jets, learn valuable life skills like leadership, teamwork, REAL camping where your gone for days maybe weeks at a time and your in the thick of everything, learn aerospace, international cadet exchange, screw the eagle scout when you could earn the Spaatz award in CAP, screw cleaning a park when you could rescue people after a disaster in disaster relive or emergency services, learn land navigation, how to eat and prepare an MRE, fly for free, get scholarships, after 9/11 CAP helped with SAR and taking aerial pictures even though all planes where grounded, go to encampments, build rockets, fly gliders, work in airshows with blue beret, learn formation movements, fly in helicopters, and sooo many more things. join now seriously.
I was a CAP cadet. I got all the awards. I can honestly say you wouldn't have made it in our squadron with that condescending attitude. The programs are not mutually exclusive, and the better cadets were usually the Eagle Scouts. Most of the fun stuff in CAP comes after they turn 16 anyway, plenty of time to knock out the Eagle Scout award first.
When l was a kid , l am proud to say NOT a scout,, we used to hear scouts talking about dirty scout masters,, why did it take so long to get into the press,,l am now 70,,,,
Not all are like that, nowadays kids know about the possibility of adults being perverse and to report if it happens. Adult leaders are also required by the BSA to take ytp, youth protection training.
As far as I can see the scout movement in the UK is a dieing , it's so out dated, and the dirty scout masters scandle , and also being classed like an anirak / nerd /train spotter , no street cred for normal lads ,
Daniel Murphy Well tbh boy scouts teach you more about discipline and knowledge about the open world of nature Military is also like that but focuses more on your combat prowess
As a member of troop 202, I never thought this would reach 90,000 views! Great Job!
Its so cool to see videos like this being done by troops in my local area.

Awesome presentation. Committee Chairman Troop 179 Virginia Beach, VA. Tidewater Council.
Most BSA troops do NOT allow any type of fixed blade.

I'd rather join the army than being in boy scouts
Daniel Murphy
Well tbh boy scouts teach you more about discipline and knowledge about the open world of nature
Military is also like that but focuses more on your combat prowess
I don't really like scouts
Why
