    I especially liked the fact that the story captured something researchers and philosophers throughout the ages had to persist against in order to accomplish anything: resistance from one's peers. For whatever reason, we as a group tend to act like crabs in a bucket, forever pulling down anyone trying to get out, trying to reach for something higher. Well done.

    • @tedferkin

      The concept of immortality is terrifying. For a start imagine the overpopulation, what about the issue of a psyche of the thought of being able to live forever. It could be boredom because you've done everything or the hopelessness of poverty for eternity. If it's something only for those that can afford it, it's yet another gulf between the rich and the poor.. No there's a reason why immortality would have a hard time being funded.
      But I think I understand that you have the thought that the more way out projects don't get funded. From my understanding that's not how it happens. Research gets funded through possibilities. To get funding you have to show some level of success before it will get further funding, so projects go through multiple rounds of getting funding. Dead end research gets dropped, successful projects get further funding for progress. The scientific community has quite good and open-minded approaches to thinking big.

    • @handlemonium
      @handlemonium 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nicely put. Well-funded researchers like Dr. Sinclair are already working towards realizing some degree of this.
      Strategic lifestyle choices that can greatly slow the shortening of telomeres (how life expectancy is measured), genetic therapies, and bionics can all aid in extending an individual's life. The ethical challenge is how to educate and provide these choices to those who would otherwise not live to experience the full human experience instead of limiting these choices to those that already have access to nearly all the benefits and pleasures of modern society.

Look for Stanley Plotkin deposition full 9 hours on you tube, make sure to type it as I put it. Then documentary 2 1/2 hour called In lies we trust, you will hear things that maybe you didn't know. Also Maurice Hilleman: cancer,HIV in vaccines . Eustace Mullis: murder by injection. Vert good read: Robert Kennedy jr: The real Anthony Fauci with thousands of footnotes. On Bitchute type: Attali .People should wake up, humanity is going to be reset once again, great reset means wiping out humanity.

    I also appreciated the 4th character in the film, that beautiful Arts & Craft home. The Arts & Craft movement was an architectural and hand-craft design aesthetic that started in the 19th century, in response to the factory-made cookie-cutter Industrial Age that was growing in prominence. This lovely house, and all it's built-in furnishings, stands as silent witness to a scientific breakthrough that will forever change human society and history. Excellent short film!

    This was an excellent short story about an ancient human longing for at least longevity if not immortality. It felt like an updated classic "Twilight Zone" in the way it left me feeling all crawly at the end. I thought the editing was spot on and it seeded all the usual issues arond the topic with a special focus on the very ethics of the science without going into religion. For that, I am grateful because it allows this short to appeal to a global audience. Everyone can provide that layer themselves. Keep making more shorts like these!

    DUST makes 100% great, brilliantly creative stories with a beginning, middle and end. Netflix, Hollywood and most everyone else couldn‘t do it…if they would even try.

  • @barrahart
    @barrahart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    As a science fiction writer and an aspiring "mad scientist" in the field of genetics -- and hopefully a few others -- I salute every creative mind behind this beautiful little story. Longevity is not a fantasy. It is here and now, and there are brilliant minds hard at work. We can't know for certain what it will mean for our species, but what we do know... is that death is not inevitable. It is not our inescapable fate. It is not our curse. It is simply another problem we have yet to solve.

    This short can go in so many directions such as The Modern Prometheus as Dad goes mad or Benjamin Button as Anna becomes a child in the relationship with Harper or a Species type creature born from Harper as she accidentally gets exposed to the 10,000 year old algae. Normally I don't like movies that don't have endings but this one is a keeper.

    There's writing material for at least 15-20 episodes. The start (daddy becomes a vegetable, pondering, debate, action), the middle (this short film) and the end (somewhere between Age of Adaline and evolution of time over a few decades). I enjoyed the quality of the cinema filming.

    So good! The only bummer is that it ended. Great work Natalie!
