The thing is we are all ill, not seeing what is happening around us, we are all brainwashed in a way and this pill makes you see clearly what goes wrong. The doctor just helps you to see that "strange" things going on. Its up to you living in a "strange" world or a totally fine world;) it is actually about who you believe and trust.
What I like about this film, especially compared to They Live, is that the protagonist isn't framed as a badass action hero, but as someone who is clearly mentally disturbed by his experience, regardless if it is real or not.
I thought of They Live while watching this as well, but I feel like making the thing that lets you see the truth, or whatever, a pill as opposed to something benign, like sunglasses, is that the scene where the main character tries to get someone else to see what they see becomes a lot more understandable when it's, y'know, some random pills from who knows where.
Well yeah because the plot device in They Live are glasses that can verifiably let people see the truth without committing to taking a drug. It's way easier for the lead character to understand and communicate what he's seeing; Though that doesn't always work cue the scene with Keith David. The "framing" has entirely to do with the protagonists own knowledge of the situation they're in and their ability to communicate that to other characters. It's hard to make someone take a pill, easy to get them to put on glasses.

Also hinted that there were those that knew of the presence of non-human entities hidden amongst us i.e. the doctor, and that, at least his doctor, was making an attempt to expose the imposters.

Well the monsters shown in this short film are those people which are sickening and corrupted which are controlling the system. And those pills allowed him and her to see the truth.

Watching his eyes transition from green to brown the MOMENT he starts to see these monsters 2:04-2:05 is such a cool detail. Like, it marks the moment his reality changes...then in the next screen they go right back to green.
The very small text at the end of the film is just brilliant. "All characters and events are real, the similarity is intended, we're all going to die."
And itd be like a whole arc of her freeing the doctor and finding a way to rid the world of those things aswell as getting her husband back (guessing husband and wife now that i think of it£
Matt Trickel well at the end we see they are actually monsters because they see the same thing. So we can assume the soldiers executed him since he knew about them.
What an intriguing plot! I love how you notice more details, everytime you see it. It seems the man was actually right and wasn't hallucinating as you can see from the credits. This can be quite believable though. I hope you make a 2nd part or a series on this.
I’m from Canada and our health and nutrition is way more strict than the states, hence why we don’t get certain flavours of energy drinks and foods cooked the way the states does. Not sure why they wouldn’t have made it from some obscure country that no one knows anything about...
Honestly does recall everything from They Live for me. But it feels a bit more modern I think? I like how it carries over the major themes and plot of that feature length film, but in a more direct, focused bite of cinema. I feel like it rounds out that movies themes and structure in just under 14 minutes. I'm impressed. Good watch!
‘They Live’ had more socioeconomic themes like class (have and have-nots), hinted here but not as explicitly. There was no moment when the aliens said to each other ‘He can see us’.

There's something really interesting about somebody becoming the bad guy in the eyes of everybody else when they're so sure they're the one doing the right thing- and not only that, but actually seeing it from their perspective.
Based on this I think you will like the movie: "I Stand Alone (1998)" You hear the thoughts of the Protagonist troughout the entire movie and he is not a ,,good" person to keep it short. There should be reviews available on TH-cam. Enjoy :)
This is a common trope called the Schizophrenic Hero, where one person or a small minority realizes that a paranoid fantasy is actually reality, and most people can't see it. It works well because it suggests an average person can be a secret hero, that the oppressive normal order can be subverted, and that there's a way to cheat to win and escape the drudgery of daily life. "They Live" is an obvious example, but Stephen King's done it, too, and there's "The Matrix" and "Dark City" and so on. This is a nice version, as well.

The TV part is impossible. If they can trick the camera, then a pill won't reveal theri true identity. A pill could only work if they are mindcontrolling the person. This totally ruined my belief.
@@aca48 so by your merits, its best to belief that he was crazy then. unless, you want to belief that somehow, cameras function very similar to eyes when capturing light frequency. if their face was being hidden, it was most likely not makeup flesh, but a sort of visual frequency hologram to disguise the face. but with the proper alteration and attunation of photoreceptivity of the eyes between the cornea, nerve endings, and the brain, somehow you can diffuse the visual hologram projector disguise and you see what they are. Just a thought. "They Live" is a ghetto version. Probably the one this is made to resemble. A retelling of all the "aliens among us" flics like Body Snatchers, V and so many others. For a short film, this was far and away a better production though.
They aren't better quality; they are entirely different. Longer films don't have the luxury of having such exciting pacing; you're comparing apples and oranges. A quality feature length movie can be just as good, just in an entirely different way. To say this is objectively better than a quality full length movie is false; the issue is that many full length movies are not of that quality to begin with; that isn't a full length movie problem inherently. I can find crappy short movies as well.

Yeah that's bleeding obvious. I like to call it 'sledgehammer foreshadowing'. Basically, after the first two minutes you knew everything about this film, very little left to imagination.

THEY LIVE... and a fresh retelling of that 80s tale... nice job.... and as a Director... you SHOULD have made this into a feature... your style and embellishment of that JC movie was spot on... the PILL idea was a good exchange instead of sunglasses... and your ALIENS were shown feeding on babies was brilliant... I'd say... take the NEXT step and make this into a feature... but with added characters and a twist ending that no one will expect... and you have SCI FI GOLD... best wishes... good luck..
In they live, it's a 8 minutes long fist fight. Might not seem like much, but an uncut 8 minutes fight is a very loong fight when you're getting smashed upon cars and so on.
This made me remember an old horror comic I read when I was a kid It was about a guy that was haunted by the boogeyman in his dreams, every night after someone told him about the thing in his childhood. The dream was always the same, he's still a kid , naked and running away as the boogeyman tries to get him, but no matter how much he runs, the boogeyman always get him. He can feel the things presence as it comes, and when it gets him, it touches his forehead with its finger, killing him, and he wakes. The guy then goes to see a doctor, that will hypnotize him to make the boogeyman go away. But as the session starts, his vision gets blurry, and sudenlly he starts to see the doctor as a monster, and kills him. He tries to get help, but the people on the reception are also monsters, which he also kills in despair. Then he feels it. The boogeyman's presence. he sees it as It slowly reaches his finger to his foreead, and when it touches it, his brain explodes. The camera cuts to his dead body on the ground, with a cop with a still smoking gun pointing at him. It ends witht he words "the boogeyman indeed left, but took him with it..." pretty good stuff for a kid to read
You just witnessed something stranger than fiction. Does your intuition tell you something? …that is if chromosome 8 is still intact in you….. this is a remake sorta of “They Live”. Both are based upon real life. The glasses in “They Live” represent the ones created in 1921 from the newly discovered product of coal tar by one the one of those scientists gifted to think outside the box an innovate such things as, in this case Dicyanin Dye. These were banned. Later during the Vietnam war another visual technology came to light if you will, it was a version of night vision which was based in the spectrum of red photons which led them to be shelved and the tech steered in the opposite direction in order to avoid furthur exposure.
This is practically identical to the plot “they live” a sci-fi/thriller created in 1988 about these special glasses that when worn, can see the true identity of people/aliens in disguise

The guy would check his reflection and realize that he too was one of those creatures. Would love to see this as a feature film. Reminded me of an updated version of They Live.
Have you ever seen The Deaths of Ian Stone? It is somewhat similar, with a man being tormented by nightmarish shadow creatures that feed on fear and can reshape reality, only to realize that he is one of them who went rogue (which is concerning to them because they thought that they were invincible, until he managed to murder one of their own) and the first half of the movie he just had his memory sealed away (one of their abilities).
The Godzilla Studios no the company is from the aliens, the aliens probably sent an invisible virus that makes humans' perception of the aliens as "human" also like the military, civilians, police and all other people, the aliens think that humans are "kaiju" probably half or even all of the government is now alien, they're taking over the world.

Honestly does recall everything from They Live for me. But it feels a bit more modern I think? I like how it carries over the major themes and plot of that feature length film, but in a more direct, focused bite of cinema. I feel like it rounds out that movies themes and structure in just under 14 minutes. I'm impressed. Good watch!

‘They Live’ had more socioeconomic themes like class (have and have-nots), hinted here but not as explicitly. There was no moment when the aliens said to each other ‘He can see us’.

There's something really interesting about somebody becoming the bad guy in the eyes of everybody else when they're so sure they're the one doing the right thing- and not only that, but actually seeing it from their perspective.
Based on this I think you will like the movie:

You hear the thoughts of the Protagonist troughout the entire movie and he is not a ,,good" person to keep it short.

What i don't get is why the cop jumps out of a car and immediately shoots at an unarmed man.
This is a common trope called the Schizophrenic Hero, where one person or a small minority realizes that a paranoid fantasy is actually reality, and most people can't see it. It works well because it suggests an average person can be a secret hero, that the oppressive normal order can be subverted, and that there's a way to cheat to win and escape the drudgery of daily life. "They Live" is an obvious example, but Stephen King's done it, too, and there's "The Matrix" and "Dark City" and so on. This is a nice version, as well.

The doctor knew the side-effect of the pill, but just wanted to get as many people awake as possible to fight off these weird aliens.

The TV part is impossible. If they can trick the camera, then a pill won't reveal theri true identity. A pill could only work if they are mindcontrolling the person. This totally ruined my belief.
@@aca48 so by your merits, its best to belief that he was crazy then. unless, you want to belief that somehow, cameras function very similar to eyes when capturing light frequency. if their face was being hidden, it was most likely not makeup flesh, but a sort of visual frequency hologram to disguise the face. but with the proper alteration and attunation of photoreceptivity of the eyes between the cornea, nerve endings, and the brain, somehow you can diffuse the visual hologram projector disguise and you see what they are.

"They Live" is a ghetto version. Probably the one this is made to resemble. A retelling of all the "aliens among us" flics like Body Snatchers, V and so many others. For a short film, this was far and away a better production though.

They aren't better quality; they are entirely different.
Longer films don't have the luxury of having such exciting pacing; you're comparing apples and oranges.
A quality feature length movie can be just as good, just in an entirely different way. To say this is objectively better than a quality full length movie is false; the issue is that many full length movies are not of that quality to begin with; that isn't a full length movie problem inherently. I can find crappy short movies as well.

Yeah that's bleeding obvious. I like to call it 'sledgehammer foreshadowing'. Basically, after the first two minutes you knew everything about this film, very little left to imagination.

Its a 16 minutes show but the pacing was so good, i felt it was like a full length movie.
this is CLEARLY inspired by John Carpenters... THEY LIVE... and a fresh retelling of that 80s tale... nice job.... and as a Director... you SHOULD have made this into a feature... your style and embellishment of that JC movie was spot on... the PILL idea was a good exchange instead of sunglasses... and your ALIENS were shown feeding on babies was brilliant... I'd say... take the NEXT step and make this into a feature... but with added characters and a twist ending that no one will expect... and you have SCI FI GOLD... best wishes... good luck..

In they live, it's a 8 minutes long fist fight. Might not seem like much, but an uncut 8 minutes fight is a very loong fight when you're getting smashed upon cars and so on.

This made me remember an old horror comic I read when I was a kid
It was about a guy that was haunted by the boogeyman in his dreams, every night after someone told him about the thing in his childhood. The dream was always the same, he's still a kid , naked and running away as the boogeyman tries to get him, but no matter how much he runs, the boogeyman always get him. He can feel the things presence as it comes, and when it gets him, it touches his forehead with its finger, killing him, and he wakes.
The guy then goes to see a doctor, that will hypnotize him to make the boogeyman go away. But as the session starts, his vision gets blurry, and sudenlly he starts to see the doctor as a monster, and kills him.
He tries to get help, but the people on the reception are also monsters, which he also kills in despair. Then he feels it. The boogeyman's presence. he sees it as It slowly reaches his finger to his foreead, and when it touches it, his brain explodes.
The camera cuts to his dead body on the ground, with a cop with a still smoking gun pointing at him.
It ends witht he words "the boogeyman indeed left, but took him with it..."

this is a remake sorta of “They Live”. Both are based upon real life. The glasses in “They Live” represent the ones created in 1921 from the newly discovered product of coal tar by one the one of those scientists gifted to think outside the box an innovate such things as, in this case Dicyanin Dye. These were banned. Later during the Vietnam war another visual technology came to light if you will, it was a version of night vision which was based in the spectrum of red photons which led them to be shelved and the tech steered in the opposite direction in order to avoid furthur exposure.

That was amazing. I thought it was going to end with one of the monsters on the roof talking to the guy and producing a mirror. The guy would check his reflection and realize that he too was one of those creatures. Would love to see this as a feature film. Reminded me of an updated version of They Live.

Have you ever seen The Deaths of Ian Stone? It is somewhat similar, with a man being tormented by nightmarish shadow creatures that feed on fear and can reshape reality, only to realize that he is one of them who went rogue (which is concerning to them because they thought that they were invincible, until he managed to murder one of their own) and the first half of the movie he just had his memory sealed away (one of their abilities).
