    After checking laterals, putting in new sand and getting a ton of sand back in pool( way more than before) this was THE BEST INFO OF ALL OTHER VIDEOS. Pool store said 7/50lb bags . So I did. Side of barrel says 25 lbs less🤫🤪😮🥶

      I had a similar problem last summer. I was convinced it was the selector valve. Then a few uses of the selector valve it came right.
      Now I have same problem. So I'm going to change the selector valve

    I have a large above ground pool with sand filter. There's these handfuls of sand or algae on the opposite end of the pool. it's on the far end, away from the sand filter and pump. I'm using my pool robot to clean it now. If it comes back I'll see if it scatters and disappears. to see if I have a filter problem or an algae problem.

    I put a handful of dirt in a skimmer bcuz i saw on youtube that If the multivalve spider gasket was bad, dirt would visibly come out of the return jet. However the dirt plugged the skimmer pipe and i had to put a garden hose in the skimmer to open it up again. Now i see sand back wash into my skimmer upon shutting off the pump AND on the bottom of the pool under the input jet. Its much more sand than coulda came from the handful of dirt

    Does the stand pvc pipe inside sand filter supposed to be completely empty /dry? We hired local pool company to change out sand and since it’s been blowing out sand. I removed the top piece and noticed the pipe was full of water…
    Also this company added gravel at base of sand filter…I’m thinking maybe they cracked the lateral …I then backwashed for a minute hoping that would help.
    Placed handle on filtration and it spit out sand for a few more seconds then went clear.
    Pool is still running so I don’t know if it will spit sand once I shut off then turn on again. I hope this makes sense.

      You use your waste outlet instead of vacuuming it and it goes through the regular filter process. That algae will go through that sand. So let it go out the waste and then add more water in your pool as needed.

    @Swimming Pool Steve, I need your brain! I’ve got a Hayward S244T and a fiberglass pool. Thought we were getting sand into the pool, so I replaced our laterals with a new stand pipe & laterals assembly. Vacuumed out all old sand, replaced with new. Filled it two-thirds like you said. Still getting what I think is sand in the water. It dissipates when you move near it, like you described the algae, but it also settles below the returns like you described sand. We secured thin socks over the two returns and the “sand” stopped forming in the pool. The water is pristine otherwise. All levels test perfectly so I honestly don't think it's algae. What do you think it is? Advice on how to resolve this? Thanks… LOVE this channel.

    • @cynthiadaw131

      The algae has to go through the waste outlet. It want filter. So let it go through the waste and add more water in your pool as needed.

    New sand filter one year old, pool has a lot of sand on the bottom also in the pump filter. could installing the lines in reverse be the cause?

    Great video! I'm hoping that you might be able to help with an issue we had yesterday, we decided to vacuum on filter instead of waste because I didn't want to lose so much water...after we were done, did a backwash and put it back in filter position. My bf thinks he forgot to do the rinse cycle, but there was A LOT of sand that came shooting out of the jet, I mean A LOT! What do you think the problem was? Simply forgetting the rinse cycle? And now to get the beach out of my pool, what would be the best way to do it? TIA!

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve

      Your return pipes are probably filled with sand from the previous filter problem. The only other option is that something broke when you installed the new sand (or you used too much)

      I never knew the laterals folded to be taken out to clean so I'm getting random sand patches that I'll spend time swiping up with skimmer hoping it'll go away. Will it go away? I changed the sand only after 3 years ,long story short center pipe got stuck in top and ended up pulling up from bottom obviously a catastrophe.having to start all over everything was done correctly except the above not knowing they folded. I Think I feel every once in a while a granule of sand hitting my hand while holding in water in front of it. Not sure what to do

    I've had my pool 3 years This is the third summer I changed the sand due to difficulties last year keeping the cloudiness away discovered the lateral was broke replaced it put fresh sand everything up to par and it looks like I am getting sand and the bottom of my pool I just opened it any suggestions?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ypu should replace sand every 5 to 7 years. But you can also go 20 years. So the chances of you needing to replace the sand yearly is around zero percent. Either you have a broken internal on the filter again or you have used the wrong sand, or too much sand...changing your sand I'd almost never the answer to water quality problems. There is algae that looks like sand also.

    I purchased the 1.5 hp pump, getting sand in pool. Do i have to return it?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be the pump was bigger than your last, or more flow, and this causes the sand to blow out of the filter. Or it could be that the filter is experiencing a failure and is unrelated to the pump. What is your exact make and model for both your pump and filter?

    I checked the laterals and it looked good. But I noticed the plastic cover on the bottom of my valve is cracking. Could that be letting sand in? It's not a bunch of sand like I've seen in a lot of videos

    Swimming pool Steve please help me. I was getting sand in my Jacuzzi so we change the standpipe the laterals and new sand. We still had an issue with Sam getting into the Jacuzzi so I change the spider gasket on the triple valve. And I am still getting sand into my could the triple valve possibly be bad?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably have sand within the plumbing lines now and it will continue to work its way back to the spa over time. Drain and flush, or just wait it out. This assumes you make the necessary repairs, which it sounds like you did pretty much everything. but if you had sand in the spa, then you will have sand in the pipes that has not made it back to the spa yet.

      @@Swimmingpoolsteve Thank you for the fast reply I change the sand on 8/2020 The reason why I change the sand in the laterals was because I was getting sand in my Jacuzzi in the first place. I do weekly flushes on the spa so I figured all of the sand would be out of the lines already. The only part I haven’t changed as of yet was the actual triple duty valves itself. I was thinking maybe there is an issue with that or the spring tensioner itself? Thanks again for the fast reply

    Hi, I recently changed the sand and entire elbow and lateral assembly in a 36 inch Hayward side mount filter and still have sand coming back in the pool. Can this happen if there is not enough sand in the filter? Initially i did the sand because the pool was green and not responding to chemicals, at the time i saw 2 broken laterals and recommended changing the entire assembly but was told by the owner to replace the two laterals only as funds weren't available to do all. the pool cleared up slowly but there was a lot of sand coming back in the pool. 2 weeks later I was called back to change out the entire internal assembly but now there is still sand coming back in the pool. The filter is less than half filled with sand at present since the pool maintenance guy backwashed a lot of it out during the 2 week interim. Any suggestions?

    Don't forget to look at the spider gasket BEFORE assuming the laterals are broken. My laterals were fine, but spider gasket was bad.

    I installed a new spider casket 2 weeks ago and everything was fine. Yesterday and today I back washed 4 times and now I have sand blowing in the pool from the return...Can it be a lateral? and is there any temporary fix until I can order new ones?

    • @sparkinspain
      @sparkinspain 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You changed the spider gasket. I've never seen one successfully replaced as they can move . New Manufacturered original will not. Old ones not used for a long time stick and dislodge as so much your new repair.
