      @@Hantography real quick, I found an alternative method to bringing 120p footage to 24p for slow mo: bypassing ‘interpret footage’ and using Speed/Duration options instead. This method respects proxies too, and apparently an adobe dev mentioned that interpret footage wasn’t originally intended for slow motion conversion (hence the proxies incompatibility). Ever tried the speed/duration method and which works better for you? I appreciate man and cheers!

    I'm suprised no one else is mentioning this, but you are NOT supposed to slow footage down by using "interpret footage." That isn't the intended funcion of that feature and hence why people have so many problems with it.
    Rather, right click the footage in your project folder and select "Speed/Duration." Slowing 60fps to 24fps = 40% speed, 120fps to 24fps = 20% speed.
    You might notice that the proxy footage looks "choppy" when slowed down and played back. If so, click the settings wrench icon in your Program Monitor window, and enable "High Quality Playback." If your proxies are still dropping frames, make a lower quality proxy.

    • @trayneadjeifilms
      @trayneadjeifilms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm what is the main purpose for interpretting footage? This is my first time hearing this, but it would make sense if its not the intended use because I can't see premiere having this issue for so many years. Also how would you slow down multiple clips at once?

    • @jordanettinger
      @jordanettinger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@trayneadjeifilms You can select multiple clips in your project folder, right-click, and click "speed/duration".
      If I have a project with a mix of frame rates (24, 30, 60), I will sort the clips by frame rate and do all the 30fps clips at once, the 60fps clips, etc

    • @BenConley
      @BenConley 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      After years of doing it I'm just learning interpret footage is not the way to go either! I used the speed/duration method (40% for 60fps) in the project folder for all my high frame rate footage and the footage works fine with the original proxies I made. Thank you!

  • @EmeraldEyeProductions

    Thought this was the solution to my problem but it doesn't seem like it.
    I'm working with mixed frame rates, but I want the project to be at 30fps. So, I interpret all the non-30fps footage to be at 30fps. However, I want them to be playing at "normal" speed, so I have to adjust their speed accordingly using Speed/Duration. But then the problem occurs after making the proxies. I make the proxies like the way that you show in the video, interpreting them in Media Encoder as well, but the when I get back to my project in premiere, all of the proxies for the non-native-30fps footage is back at the original speed because you can't speed up (or slow down) a proxy... any solution to this?

    How to do a proxy of a 23.976 project, with 60fps videos? I just want to use same 60 fps of some videos because these were talking head videos. I don’t want to make slowmotion of me talking 🤣

  • @johnalmighty
    @johnalmighty ปีที่แล้ว

    What happens if I want the footage to stay in 60 or 120fps? I'm not understanding why you'd interpret a 120 into 23.976 when the sequence does that for you? I don't want the footage slow me unless I make it slow-mo. I want the footage to run normal until I do my speedramps on it.

    • @Hantography
      @Hantography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That works fine too. This is mainly for people that want to view their footage slowed down first, and then speed it up when they want. Depends if you want to go from fast to slow or slow to fast.
      Technically viewing it slowed down first would give you the correct "motion blur" for the 23.976 timeline.

    • @johnalmighty
      @johnalmighty ปีที่แล้ว

      I have clients who do real estate and they record everything in 60fps, including the walking and talking about the home. I wouldn't want that in slow-motion. I would want it to play normal.@@Hantography

    • @johnalmighty
      @johnalmighty ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I've attempted this process and it doesn't slow down the footage which is great. However, the problem is still happening. The frames freeze and lag the project when I try to run playback on a proxie file that is over 23.976 fps.@@Hantography

      For 120 fps footage, speed up to 500%

    • @usmanmajid7837
      @usmanmajid7837 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You take the original frame rate of the clip, divide by the sequence's frame rate, and multiply by 100. That'll tell you how much to speed up the clip by.
      So if you have a 120fps clip already interpreted in a 24fps timeline, you would do 120/24 x 100 = 500. So you should speed up that clip by 500% to play it back at normal speed.

  • @nanomartellvideo3299
    @nanomartellvideo3299 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello! Do you know the reason why premiere renders the clip with weird ghosting effects when reinterpreting from higher fps than 24fps to 24 fps? This fail is visible in when some fast movement is recorded.

    • @Hantography
      @Hantography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I've never had that problem even doing 120 FPS :( I'm sorry. Are you talking about just playback in the program or even when you're exporting?

    • @mahathmamathrubhumistudyci5679
      @mahathmamathrubhumistudyci5679 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe since the new encoder doesn't output 120fps files into 120fps but is capped at 60fps, the ghosting is a result of a shortage of half the frame. Like premier thinks the footage is 120fps interpreted to 23 but the proxy is actually a 60fps interpreted to 23. so that might be the case.' In here the fix is encoder interpreted the footage down to 23 before encoding so results in no capping in the frames.

    • @Hantography
      @Hantography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      24 FPS gets that cinematic look, if you leave it in 120 FPS, it looks unnaturally smooth to your eyes unless you slow it down. You can just change the speed to slow it down but interpreting the clip will get the correct speed faster (and you can do multiple clips at a time). 👊
