Wonderful stuff! Question? If I have footage, 1080p and UHD 3840x and TRUE DCI/Cinema 4096x - Do I need to USE a different Proxy preset for each one, or will one Proxy Preset do? Thanks for your help.
I think the proxy will do, might just be slightly squeezed/expanded depending. If you want a 1:1 preview in the correct resolution, then you will have to make your own proxy presets and use the correct resolution :) And, if you want please share if you like it, helps us out a lot!
Thanks 😎📽🎬👍 because with 4k 100fps you can't create proxies internally. At least on the a7siii I have you can't. Or am I wrong? If ao please let me know how 😊😊😊👍
Your channel is really helpful. However, I noticed a small error in this tutorial. While creating the encoding preset settings at 3:32, it seemed like you kept the width at 3840 and only changed the height to 720 then saved the settings. I know you eventually changed the width to 1280 because it shows that in the output preview of your media encoder at 5:16. No problem, just confused me for a second. Regardless, great content overall! Much appreciated.
The aspect ratio is locked so when she changed the height to 720 it automatically changed the width to 1280. You can toggle that setting using the lock icon right next to the aspect ratio (width/height).
When I get to the part at 5:05 it always says "custom" instead of H265 and it won't create the proxies once encoder opens because it says the file type isn't supported. I made sure to select H265 when creating the proxies in encoder originally. Also, your presets don't work -- Premiere says that they're both Encode presets, neither is an ingest.
There are 2 folders, one with ingest and one with encode. They definitly work, as I use them all the time when installing new PCs. Not quite sure where the problem lies with your case. Difficult to say without seeing it.
THANK YOU! your video is really EXCELLENT. I have some doubts, if you can answer me I would be very happy. I am recording on my sony a7s3 at 119.88 fps (120 but when I import in premiere it tells me that number) I want to play it at 24 fps 1- You mentioned that you do not have to interpret the footage at 24, but you have to do it from "speed". Why? can there be errors in the final render? I always did it by interpreting the footage at 24 and I am afraid that I am doing something wrong. I would appreciate a lot if you can explain a little more about this. 2- And on the other hand, if I have the material at 119.88 fps and I want to work it at 24fps ... in the "speed" menu, what percentage should I put? INFINITE THANKS!
Hi! from what I was testing, I got the following conclusion. if the sony records at 119.88 fps and we divide it by 5 it gives us exactly 23.976 Therefore the speed factor would be 20% because it is 100/5 Then I would be putting together a sequence at 23.976, making the proxies as explained in the video, but when putting the clips in the composition, the speed took it to 20% and it would be perfect. Correct me if you see that something in this logic is wrong please Thanks!!
Sorry. She showed you why interpreting footage is not correct nor is the intended way to create speed effects from over-cranked footage. It can cause errors in creating proxies. It is less of a problem if you do not collaborate with other editors or create proxies or transcodes.
So i shoot with a7siii some shots @ 4k120fps of course. Sometimes i use those shots for slow motion, sometimes i want to use some of those shots at regular speed. My timeline is always 23.976. So should i duplicate the files to use in both ways? I usually slow my 120fps footage down the way said NOT to, by interpreting the footage in the project. Then ill have a duplicate of that file not interpreted to use at regular speed. Hellllp!
If that works for you then your fine to do it. But often there are diplay issues with interpreting footag. If thats not the case with you, just do it :)
Thanks for your video - When I try to import the preset in PP I've got the following message " The selected preset has Match Source set for frame size and frame rate, which is not permitted for proxy generation. Please use a preset that transcode to a frame size or frame rate that is not set to Match Source." You leave frame rate as "match source," but PP is not taking the preset. Any feedback on this? Thanks!

Hi! My proxy rendering always gets stuck. If I choose multiple, it stops at about half of the videos (at the beggining of one of them) and if I choose only one, it gets stuck at the beginning of that particular one. Anyone got any ideas? :/
Have you tried to record S&Q 120 to 25p All-Intra codec? Should be buttery smooth to edit without proxies (just no sound and you need a cf-express card)
S&Q is great for out-of-camera slomo footage but you if need to do speed ramping in your edit you can't do that with S&Q clips as the frame rate is locked.
I have a question. For the last problem, was the input LUT applied from Browse, a custom LUT location, or did you install it in the Premiere Pro app package? If the latter, that is not the proper location and can cause such problems. Let me know and I'll point you to where you should be placing your Input and Creative LUTs. Another thing is that you can use ProRes proxies with Windows and can recommend it If not, try the DNx or Cineform ones. I really don't like H.264 proxies in that they are not performant, cannot carry multiple audio channels, - do not scrub or JKL very well. IMO. Hope to help you and others.
hi any work around with the proxy for accidental vertical videos ? its totally unusable. i dont know why the camera senses that its a vertical video also when its not.
Been a professional user of Premiere for over a decade. I hate how this stuff still happens. There are so many issues and things that should be obvious in user experience that just suck up so much time fussing.
Sorry you are having so much trouble. I don't have any of these issues. My dynamic link works fine, etc. That said, I'm a mac user and worked at Apple and Adobe. I'm very careful with configuring and maintaining gear. I also avoid H.264 footage like the plague.
I have to pick on you a little bit. There are many reasons to create proxy files and one of the biggest reasons is to use an editing codec to edit. Creating proxy files using H264 and H265 is almost counter-intuitive because the files coming off the camera are also H264 or H265. H264 and H265 are not editing codecs. They are playback, exhibition, or delivery codecs. You're not doing yourself any favors in this regard. Sure, I get needing proxy files of high frame rate clips but you're still using the same codecs to edit with.

Been a professional user of Premiere for over a decade. I hate how this stuff still happens. There are so many issues and things that should be obvious in user experience that just suck up so much time fussing.
I know right?! This is sooooo bad... are you on PC?
@@TastyShots yes I'm on PC
