      Hi Matt, question - with reference to your frame rates explained video, you show how playing the 30 FPS and 60 FPS footage is choppy played at normal speed on the 24 FPS timeline due to the dropped frames which makes perfect sense, however when speed ramping parts of 60 FPS clip (interpreted as 23.976) up to 250% as shown in this video aren’t we going to run into the same problem where the parts of the slow mo clip we want to play at normal speed will be choppy as it’s effectively the same thing as playing non interpreted 60 FPS footage at 24 FPS? Will we still be loosing frames on the parts of the clip played at ‘normal speed’ using the method shown in this video and have that same choppy feel? Much appreciate your reply, Thank you

    I was legitimately having so many issues tryina figure this out just the other day- as I decided I'd edit everything in the same frame rate and then had issues with the interpreted footage wigging out due to me using regular speed ramping methods (was dragging the wrong side of the ramp) and i thought the program was broken LOL- now I don't have to re-edit that whole timeline- thanks so much dude- ABSOLUTE lifesaver haha

    Thanks Matt! You've made speed ramping understandable just like you have with frame rates, interpreting footage, and proxies. I kinda feel dumb to say this but I didn't know that the back side of the speed ramp had to be adjusted. I can see that you have to because interpreted footage is already slowed down. And I see that you have to adjust it to 250% (250% of 24 fps = 60 fps) to bring the back side to normal speed. This is something I've always wanted to know, but didn't know how to ask the question. I think will help me with a speed ramping problem I've been having and couldn't find an answer. :)

I like to edit with whip in camera transitions but sometimes i need to reverse the clip so that i can match the last clips whip. But everytime i do it in premiere, it won’t let me and the clip I want to edit changes to another scene of the clip. I know, it doesn’t make sense.. 😔😔

    It’s looks like a 60fps footage playing in 24fps sequence settings without interpreting the footage (just like in your fps video).
    How can I make the speed up part looks smooth?

    Very good vid and you take the time to explain a little more clearly than some others... which I greatly appreciate. On the speed ramp, bézier curve can take that ramp to the next level, yes? Although maybe not needed except for certain situations. Btw, first came across you with your $1400 vid editing build. Went with the 3900X and not looking back. Awesome. Thanks.

    Interpret before putting on timeline. Quick note: Interpret footage option was not actually meant to slow down footage (I asked a adobe prem pro worker). That's what the speed duration option is for. If you do use the interpret footage method, you will run into problems when speed ramping and/or use proxies. Use speed duration option instead. Interpret footage option is to fix the frame rate to match your sequence settings frame rate (eg. from 29.97 to 30fps). Reason being, If you ever try to dynamic link from premiere pro to after effects to use for example rotobrush tool, you won't get the "frame rate mismatch" error, where ya have to start all over again in prem pro. To recap my advice: Use speed duration for slow motions, and use interpret footage to avoid frame rate mismatch errors (especially when using dynamic link to after effects). Hope this helped ♥

    Wow, this really opens up doors and answers questions I didn't even know how to form! Thank you again for a great eye-opening video. Such a "seemingly" simple concept. but (as with many things "Premiere Pro") Who Knew??? There's been many an occasion when I was trying to speed ramp interpreted footage and had just weird stuff happening - so used other ways or skipped it altogether.
    One question - and maybe this is simple too - what percentages do you use for the various frame rates to be "normal speed?" This one was a 60 FPS clip interpreted to 24 FPS so 250% was what you dragged it back to for normal speed...so for 30 FPS, or 120 FPS, trying to do the math...come up with a formula...or just ask Matt!
    Thanks!

      If you want to know the real values for the Max Slowdown of each clip based on it's specific framerate, go to this link: www.zapstudio.net/framecalc/
      And in there go down until the "Max slowdown of a clip" section. Insert the values and it will give you the different percentages to which you can speed up/slow down a clip based on the project framerate you choose.
      Try switching up the frame rates on the form and see the different results!
      Hope it helps!

    A question Matt: When you interpreted your 60fps source footage to 23.976fps, it means that premiere slowed it down to 50%. Then why you choose to speed it up to 250% to get normal speed?

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you interpret 59.94fps to 23.976fps, Premiere now takes the 23.976fps clip as the 100% speed. Meaning if you are going to change that to play at real-time speed, you will have to speed up the clip to 250%.
      Conversely, if you don't interpret the 59.94fps clip, Premiere will understand that 59.94fps clip as the 100% speed, so if you want to slow it down you will have to speed down the clip to 40% speed.

    So does 250% always = normal speed? Eg an interpreted 100fps clip in a 23.97 timeline?

    • @thevanekslasvegasfoodvlog
      @thevanekslasvegasfoodvlog 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. 250% is only normal speed for 60fps on 24fps time line. I think 100fps would be roughly 400%

    • @steveloudon7491
      @steveloudon7491 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After interpreting the footage it is reduced to 40 percent of the original speed. To get it back to original speed you have to speed out up by two and a half times. 250% of 40 is 100 percent, or in other words, the original speed. If you were shooting at 120 frames per second, the interpretation would reduce the speed to one fifth of the original speed ie 120/24=5. So to get that back to the original speed you'd need to increase it by 500 percent.

    Hey Matt. So I have multi fps footage. I interpreted everything to 24.00 fps. I performed all my cuts, timing to music and thank goodness I did not color grade. Why. Because when I exported, to see how the project was coming together, all kinds of really weird things happened. 1. One clip is frozen, 30fps. Nothing. It plays like it is an image not video. 2. Another clip starts at the beginning of the CLIP not where my cut is 30fps. ?? Yet another clip which is 60 fps, infact most of my 60fps footage plays in really slow mo and is . The sequence settings are set to a 24.00 timeline. Went to Adobe 3 times they did not know how to fix it. Proxies. I am using proxies, however, I used some other video other than yours (to experiment) since he claims he is doing it the right way. lol Hmm. Not sold on that. Anyway, he was teaching things a little different than you do. For instance he was claiming do not use H.264 for the proxy and other stuff. Does not matter what it was that he was teaching as I am starting over and going to back to your settings for for all. The question is... Do you think the proxy settings could have caused all the havoc with my project? All things equal? Simply wondering what your take might be? Things to try? Things to stay way away from lol? Thanks Matt.

    hey matt, there is a bug in premiere 2020 that borks the exact thing you're demoing here. Its all over the forums, but only a handful of people have reported it: adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/40471309-bug-time-remapping-interpreted-footage-14-2

      On a side note, surely there is a video in the miserable pointlessness of trying to report bugs to Adobe

    how do you speed ramp the audio though

  • @byFilipeCardoso
    @byFilipeCardoso 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have been doing the same way as you! But I was wondering if you or anyone knows how to work with the audio of a interpreted clip. Case: Clip was recorded at 60fps and interpreted as 23.976fps. The audio is now as slow as the clip and unusable, but I want to use it as ambiance. Speeding up the sound doesn't seem to work as it keeps playing at a super low pitch. Instead of changing the pitch, I find easier to have two versions of the same clip inside the project. One for the video and other for the ambiance sound. But I hate having duplicates in the project. Do you know any workarounds? Damn this comment got long 😅

      @@Harthual i did! Nest the clip before applying any effect (right click on clip > nest...) worked fine in my case! Cheers 🤙

    Question about this:
    So, I have done this before but when I try to go frame by frame through the footage after the ramp is applied it renders incorrectly. its almost like its frozen and it just keeps rendering the wrong frame (usually the same one over and over from another part of the clip) as I am moving the playhead. As soon as the playhead motion stops the computer figures out what the frame should look like and it changes but this makes it very difficult to work. any idea what that's about?

      Evan Criscuolo are you editing with proxies? If not, that may help. That used to happen with me until I started using proxies. Another option is to right click then select render and replace.

    How to speed ramp 60 fps in 24fps timeline ?
    Well when we edit 60 fps in 24fps timeline we need to slow it down to 24 fps to play it smooth but how do we speed it up without it being choppy ?

    I have a weird issue when I do this. As I scrub in timeline after speed ramp I get a still image that is no where near the time I am scrubbing. It makes virtually impossible to work. Many others on the Premiere pro Forum on Adobe have same issue. I hoped new update would fix but it has not. I am on an AMD Threadripper system. It kills me that this isn't an option for me. Maybe it is the 23.975 vs just putting 24?

    If I record dialogue at 60 fps, should I interpret the footage and then bring it up to 250% for nomral speed? I know recording dialogue at 60 fps isn't really the correct way to do it, but what if i want do record the dialogue at 24 fps and there is something i want to slowdown during that dialogue, is it possible?

    So now playing a 60fps footage in realtime in 24fps timeline results in dropping half of the frames(also depends on the % you choose)but the drop is inevetable.which results in more shake in the video right?

  • @surj93
    @surj93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Matt, just wanted to share a process I do as well that you can try yourself and see if it helps your workflow. Instead of interpreting footage, which does get complicated, especially with proxies, I simply lower the speed of my 60FPS footage to 40%. It has the same effect as interpreting the footage to 23.976. Try it and lmk what you think.
