  • Adam Schefter is the most widely recognized name in NFL reporting, famous for his ability to break massive stories before his peers are able to catch up. But while Schefter has garnered a massive platform and lucrative contract with ESPN, that doesn't mean there aren't massive blind spots within his work, and that has never been clearer than over the past year.

    To me Adam essentially is wanting to protect the league at all costs instead of being an unbiased journalist.
    The entire landscape of journalism worldwide has been tarnished so much in the past few years that many don't respect the trade and Adam shows how so many sports have tried to become the modern day TMZ to break news first and such. I understand wanting to be the first to a story and journalism school teaches many that not only if it bleeds it reads but getting a story out first matters so much.
    He's to me a guy who reminds me of a person like Jen Pshaki with the kind of heat that his actions has brought himself.
    The NFL has struggled so much with conduct for their players to owners while hoping his like Adam can make noise in other spots to get people not to notice the real issues. Its another reason why so many don't respect sports anymore because of the soulless nonsense we've seen from players to breaking stories without merit. Adam has done so many bad things yet he's given more passes than so many and I don't understand why however let's not forget the NFL is in the entertainment business not essentially sports at first so guys like Adam is a showman first then journalist. But again another reason why so many have walked away from sports as fans and such.
    I would like to see Adam to have to eat his words but also I think again it shows how low the NFL has gotten in the past few years. Its sad but again this is the NFL and ESPN (Disney owned) so what credible or respected views do they really have in the first place?

    When I was in college I was in a few journalism classes. Back then the biggest rule to always remember was: "It's far more important to get the story right than it is to get the story first."
    Guess that isn't the same rule people follow these days...

    Honestly though we need to hold all media outlets more accountable. They all do CNN, Fox and etc. Its like nothing is truly neutral with nothing but the facts , no agenda tied to it.

    A lack of indictment absolutely implies innocence. Because in this country we are all presumed innocent until proven guilty through the proper court of law. Anything anybody else says contrary to that is fallacy.

    Please don’t think I’m on Watson side on this one, absolutely not. I do have to make a point in the phrase “a lack of indictment doesn’t mean he’s innocent.” That happens to be exactly what that means, because in the American Legal system everyone is innocent until proven Guilty. No one is ever found innocent, they are found “not guilty.”

    He reminds me of the episodes of The Simpson’s, where Bart would phone Moe’s Tavern and get him (Moe) to ask and shout out random stupid names out to his customers and he’d say it without thinking. Well, to me, Moe is Schefter; he literally tweets anything, without appearing to think about what he’s posting, or if it’s the right thing to post (informatively and morally).

    The reason ESPN hangs onto him is because he has dozens of the best connections for hearing news first in the NFL. ESPN is struggling enough as it is with their best voices leaving for FOX. They won't get rid of Adam unless he does something beyond forgivable.

    • @juliewillson3378
      @juliewillson3378 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think Colts fans would have reacted so poorly if Andrew had been allowed to control the narrative from the beginning. Many of us understood why he was retiring, but Schefter breaking the news before the Colts scheduled a news conference shocked everyone. I also think Irsay and Ballard hoped the could talk him out of it. Fans booing sealed the deal.

    No reporter should EVER say “a lack of indictment doesn’t mean innocence” That is editorializing. An accusation already Carries weight with a lot of people. False accusations are virtually impossible to escape.
    We don’t need a “we don’t know it isn’t true”. People lie all the time. Don’t talk about what “we don’t know” Stick to what you actually know.
